The Big Deal Discount Store

Do not go here! Not worth your time or money! The price tags are nice to look at but you’re buying junk. Once you try to return the items they dispute about simple calculations as the owner tries to add and subtract using her iPhone. Once the female owner can’t come to terms with how her calculations aren’t adding up right, she calls in another older man to help her out. Luckily he had basic math skills to calm down the situation and give me proper credit. Good lord, they try to steal your money and give you attitude while at it. Don’t do it.

I came here to purchase a vacuum for short term use. After wandering through aisles of clutter and crap I found some vacuums that were still in the box. I asked the woman up front about them and she informed me that they were all sold as «open box.» Now, I do not know if there is an exact legal description for open box, but it’s safe to say that it’s generally accepted that an open box is an item that has been purchased, opened and then returned for one reason or another, but is in very good to newish condition. It was taped shut, but the woman at the counter did tell me I could try it out, but I declined as I was in a hurry.
I get the vacuum home and open the box, at this point I notice that this unit has been heavily used. The filters are FULL of dust and gunk. I plug it in and it turns on and the beater brush appears to be working fine. The issue is there was no suction which is a kind of important detail in a VACUUM that SUCKS up dirt. Great. I call into the store and the lady tells me that I can bring it back, but there are no refunds. So I get in the car and drive back from Harrisburg all the way into Eugene. I get into the store and start actually opening the other «open box» vacuum items which were the same brand. Every single one was heavily used and dirty. So I opted to buy another vacuum on the floor for an additional $ 10. I get up to the counter and the lady slowly waddles her way to the counter to ring me up, but along the way she is texting and giving zero fucks about the customer that had to come back to replace a shitty, non-​working item. At any point did she say «wow, I’m sorry that unit didn’t work out, we usually don’t sell items like that. For the inconvenience you incurred how about I waive the additional $ 10 fee and call it even?» Nope, texting, and no eye contact is what I got. Lovely shopping experience…
Look, I know that I’m not shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue here, and I do not expect a lot for a little, but all of the time and aggravation spent was not even worth it in the end. I will never step foot in this shitty place again.

I previously gave this place a good review but a few friends and I went back a few weeks ago and had the WORSTE experience. Nobody welcomed us like before, the store was trashed and smelled like something died. Seriously looked and smelled like a junk yard. On our way out a heavy set woman who looked and smelled like she hadn’t bathed in a year asked if we needed help… Seriously?! How are you guys still open?!
I will NEVER go back!

Tons of crap! Found an electric kettle, no box or price, that the lady I asked said was $ 15. Good deal, if it works. There were no others.
Will go back at some point for a Dutch oven at $ 30 and a juicer for $ 40, which is a great price for both!
I haven’t been shopping for new furniture in quite some time but I felt like the sofas and sectionals they had that I merely glanced at were expensive for being junk (microfiber and faux leather) but I could be wrong, if that’s what you’re coming here for.
Tons of vacuums, clothes irons, pots and pans, crock pots, blenders. Lots of their stuff has Kohls original price tags so I’m not sure how/​why this store gets their inventory?

Very large selection of discount items all brand new. Think of clearance aisles in stores now imagine a whole store of that. Like a rummage sale u never know what u will find. I love it. And clothes are like $ 2

This place is really a diamond in the rough! My daughter and I spent a fair amount of time perusing the aisles in search of the perfect deal. I hate to pay full price if i don“t have to. I spent around $ 65 and saved $ 92 from buying my items somewhere else including shopping on line. Its a place that you must frequent often as products are constantly changing. I’m still in the market for some specific furniture so I will go back and who knows… I just might find what I’m looking for…

I’ve been to The Big Deal a handful of times and I have mixed feelings about it.
On one hand, I have heard pretty awful things about the owner of the establishment on how he treats his employees and had a very negative experience with one employee (rude, dismissive, flippant when I pointed out a flaw in an item… I didn’t return for over six months because of it and only did because I didn’t want to shell out $ 50 for a waffle iron… I found one from The Food Network for $ 17 here).
On the other hand, there is truly so much to look at here, it’s astounding. On the right side, there’s furniture and rugs abound and even more in the second room opposite the door. Around the perimeter and on the left side, there’s toys, kitchen appliances, bins of kitchen gadgets, vacuums, workout equipment, and so much more. (I haven’t purchased furniture here so I’m only reviewing the appliances and toy side)
Yes, it is messy but there is a sense of cohesiveness to the chaos. Toys are in one aisle. Bread makers, coffee makers, blenders, waffle irons, crock pots, and general kitchen appliances after in another, and gadgets and cookware sets are in bins and shelves in a third.
If I had kids, I would come shopping here for toys for them because there are A LOT.
The prices are really good overall, for the brands they offer. Kitchenaid, Mr. Coffee, Quisinart, Dyson, the list goes on!
I personally love the mess and the searching you have to put into it. You can find some amazing deals on unused items (some things were used in demos at one point, just keep an eye out for them so you won’t accidentally pick one up).
The warehouse isn’t heated or cooled so come in a coat in the winter and shorts in summer.
Edit: There’s also glass cases at the front which hold makeup, fragrences, deoderant, and other cosmetics. There’s phone cases in a bin on top and I found a decent case for my S5 for 4 bucks! After checking dates on makeup, I picked up some gave powder and clinical strength deoderant for five dollars total. Not bad!
Overall: Give it a go if you don’t mind the mess. The customer service is hit or miss but it can be worth it.

Nice stuff, really! Lots to check out! Friendly people and very helpful! A lot of darker furniture, which isn’t really my style, but all great quality including nice leather and wood.
I will be back when we know our measurements a bit better and maybe it’s time to try a dark leather sofa, who knows!

But finally one afternoon the two of you go check it out, and your eyes bug out of your head, and you feel like a kid in a candy factory?
Like Augustus-Gloop-in-Willy-Wonka’s-factory?
That was my experience this afternoon. How is a place this neat not reviewed on Unilocal yet?! I’m pretty sure my pictures speak for themselves, but we’re talking about prices like Wusthof knife sets for $ 90, a convection toaster oven for $ 40, and gorgeous rugs for $ 50 (some of them bigger than our dining room).
They’ve got all types of nice furniture (M Jacobs /​Brenner’s quality or even better at 90% off compared to those two stores). They’ve got power tools, clothes, a HUGE toy aisle … They’ve got Dyson vacuums for $ 200, and all of this stuff is brand new!
Shoes, couches, leather couches, dressers, end tables, posh chairs and desks — it would really be easier to list what this place is NOT selling brand new and at half the price of Walmart (except it’s high-​end brands that would never be sold in a Walmart in the first place).
Yes, this place is in an unassuming warehouse, and the name kind of makes you just roll your eyes because it reminds you of every other generic hyped-​up «bargain store» name — but the bargains here are real, people.
I’m kicking myself for not having discovered this place before! Don’t let the same thing happen to you, LOL!
