Vanilla Jill’s Frozen Yogurt

Tasty stuff. Lots of options.
But they got my order wrong which was disappointing. Had Canadian Couriers pick it up and from now on will have them call me to make sure it is right.
I got a choc mud pie esothey didn’t have the one with espresso as on the website.
I also wanted a lime or something like that offering. Instead, I got another chocolate thing which I didn’t want.
Get it together people. That order was no complicated and I can’t believe you did that. In fact, I have half a mind to ask for a free serving of what I wanted to make it right.

Oh, this place is dangerously delicious. They have vegan options, paleo options, scoop ice cream and soft serve. I sampled a few flavors and each one was deliciouso, not terribly sweet or rich — all around goodness. i have to say the peanut butter fro yo is better than actual peanut butter. whoa!

AMAZING! Their seasonal carrot cinnamon flavor is delicious. It’s nice to have a froyo place that is a little healthier than the others. And great customer service!

I found Vanilla Jill’s while visiting Eugene, on a search for bone broth! I bought some broth, then had some soup and paleo ice cream. It was all so delicious and exactly what I was looking for. I felt like the prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality of what I was getting.

2 stars even though I didnt like it at all, service was meh. I guese I am more of a dickie yos and yogurt extremer…

We are visiting Eugene and decided to take the family out for frozen treats so turned to Unilocal.
The location off coburg is tucked behind the main stores.
The first impression for us is a strong smell of sitting beer since there is a refill station right when you walk in.
The options are limited and topping are few. The quality of the yoghurt was solid but the amount given to you in a small vs a medium seems to be mostly in cup size vs quantity.
There was only one person working and line was long and slow and in top of that the swipe pos was down so cashier had to type in everyone full name and credit card for each customer. She would also go from handling cash to grabbing cones without washing.
We will try it again next time we are in town before naming a final decision but much room for improvement.

Vanilla Jill’s is great! We love their unique and creative flavors! Such friendly people and the yogurt is always so delicious — such a treat for everyone!

We were sooooo excited about Vanilla Jill’s when we saw that they offered gluten free and paleo choices. But, when we walked in, things started to go downhill. The young woman behind the counter was less than helpful, she seemed annoyed that we were asking questions. They were out of a number of different types of yogurt, completely out of draft Kombucha, and this was headed into the weekend.
There were no prices anywhere that we saw, and everything was extremely expensive. When we took our 8 items, 2 packages of frozen waffles, 2 soups, 2 frozen yogurts and 2 bottles of Kombucha, the price was $ 64! We were not offered a receipt, but luckily I knew to add my email to the iPad that was used to charge my card. When we got home, I found that one package of 6 waffles was $ 21!!! Had we seen the prices listed, we would have NEVER paid that, it seems a little ridiculous.
Vanilla Jill’s had so much potential, they offer things that no one else does. But they ruined everything by being so completely overpriced and unhelpful. We will not be going back.

I still l love their product, but two things worth noting:
The last two times we’ve gotten vegan flavors my very lactose intolerant husband has gotten pretty sick from it and I suspect contamination from the machine or something. We probably won’t go again together:(
Also, we made a trip out to the cart on 24^th at sundance and it was sunny and warm, but no one was manning the cart, waited 5 minutes and no one came. This was prime after dinner 6ish on a hot Saturday. Aggravating.

I LOVE VANILLA JILL’S! It is always a treat to come here for frozen yogurt. Their espresso flavor is amazing; I like it with maple syrup and walnuts. One time, I ordered their limited edition raspberry rhubarb flavor — also amazing! Hands down the best frozen yogurt in Eugene, although it DEFINITELY isn’t your typical frozen yogurt shop. It isn’t self-​serve and it is a healthier option, definitely catered toward people who enjoy vegan/​vegetarian/​health food. Vanilla Jill’s is definitely for foodies, though. Anyone who enjoys trying something new, unique, and different will enjoy their time here.

I just had a FANTASTIC chocolate and banana waffle here! The frozen yogurt is awesome and I just found out how amazing a waffle can be created (sourdough strain that is made the same way it used to be before corn was fed to everything.)
Everything is easily digested as they don’t use undigested white flour and any of the milk used in the yogurts comes from grassfed cows (no dextrose in this yogurt!) If you are on the paleo diet, you really need to check this place out, and if not they have some incredible things to check out anyways!
The person working behind the counter just let me know about their sandwiches and soups as well :-) Yum! All of this comes from organic and local ingredients, which I fully support.
Needless to say, I’m very happy a friend recommended this spot to me, and I’m excited to check out their other spots!

Vanilla Jill’s seriously rocks my frozen desert related world!
If you are expecting a typical froyo shop you will undoubtedly be dissatisfied though. This is not a place for McDonald eating types. It is geared toward a crunchy hippie Eugenie demographic. The sour flavor of the plain frozen yogurt that so many folks are hating on is just what plain yogurt tastes like. It’s a bacteria culture, it’s gonna taste funky compared to the propolyn glycol riddled foods most Americans scarf down.
If you enjoy real food and diverse interesting flavors you will enjoy your desert.

I hate writing negative reviews. but the two stars capture my experience here. The service was good, but the froyo was… terrible.
I got the regular plain tart with no toppings because I just wanted to try the froyo plain. But maybe if I had gotten some toppings it would have masked the terrible taste. The froyo was super icy, and had the weirdest taste ever. I literally took two bites and threw mine away.
My friend got a mint chocolate chip shake, which she enjoyed just because she is obsessed with all things mint. But I tried it and thought it was crazy sweet.
So much potential in this place, the decorations are nice, but the froyo (their product) is definitely lacking. Hopefully they refine their recipe soon.

OK, so I am not qualified to talk too much of the place’s food, but I felt compelled to leave a comment because this is the only place in recent memory where poor atmosphere caused me to leave– literally in pain.
Quickly, I came in today to sip from their Kombucha drafts. It was very good, and the service was great. They have wi-​fi, so I sat down to do some work. Here is where I was in pain.
As other people began to walk in and sit, the metal chairs on the concrete floor would SCREECH ridiculously loudly. I do not typically notice things like this, and I do not think that I am particularly sensitive to noises, but I had to leave because my ears were hurting, and I was almost verbally reacting to the sudden noises.
PLEASE find other chairs, or perhaps put something on the bottom of the legs!

Why did I not know about this place sooner???
After a night of food and drinks with my friends we decided we wanted some fro yo.
I was a little hesitant because I am lactose intolerant but decided I wanted some anyway.
To my surprise Vanilla Jill’s had tons of vegan options.
I was super excited!
I have had a lot of lactose free froyos before but none compared to this.
It had the same consistency as regular frozen yogurt.
I had the vegan espresso and vegan pumpkin in a cone.
YUMMM, such a good combination.
The best part about it, I got all the pleasure of eating frozen yogurt but without the stomach ache after.
The girl who worked there was super friendly and helpful and let my friends and I try all the flavors since we have never been there before.
By the way the mini is not mini! It is huge. I couldn’t imagine getting any other size because that would just be to much fro yo.
I will definitely be back!!!

True to my first review, I stop at vanilla Jill’s anytime I can… any trip north, and I’ll take a detour just to get my fix! I love the not-​too-​sweet, but not-​too-​tart balance they achieve, and the seasonal flavors are always stellar.
I love that I can finally let my kids order anything they want, without thinking about GMO’s, preservatives, artificial colors, etc. It’s ALL organic, all good for the body. Local toppings, in season. My six year old has been consistently ordering the dark chocolate since we started going… even after being warned the first time that it is pretty intense. But I give my kids super dark chocolate at home too, so they’re used to that flavor.
The fro yo is actually local, organic KEFIR, which is so cool. And healthy. I think if you typically stop at McDonald’s and other crappy chains, then maybe this would be a bit intense for you. But, if you value quality food, and appreciate what VJ’s is doing, you will also fall in love with this place, as I have.

I went here because of the good reviews but I just wasn’t impressed.
I ordered a small turtle sundae with vanilla bean yogurt. First the yogurt did not even have a hint of vanilla and just tasted like a really tart plain yogurt. The dark chocolate was just too bitter and the caramel sauce was just a runny mess. Only was able to have two spoons before I had to throw it away.
Also the price is a bit ridiculous. $ 4.50 for a small sundae. For that I was hoping for really good stuff. Also even after the two spoons I ate I started to get a bad feeling in my stomach.
To eat here you have to have an acquired taste for this place, which I haven’t and won’t acquire.
I definitely won’t be going back.

WOW! That is all I can say. Just WOW! AMAZING! Best frozen yogurt ever. I would go to Eugene just for this yogurt. Phenomenal. I had the vanilla bean with yellow cake which was to die for. Just the perfect blend of tart and sweet. I also tried the coconut lime with white chocolate sauce my boyfriend ordered which was UNBELIEVABLE! I don’t even like coconut and I loved this. They have a really cute story too. I also love that they use different ingredients and cultures which are great for your tummy! If you are in Eugene, don’t pass this place up.
One Word– SUPERFANTASTICALLYAMAZINGLYDELICIOUS. I realize that should be more than one word but this place is so good they should have a word made for them.

I know I said if you want froyo that looks and tastes like icecream, don’t come here.
HOWEVER, if you’re talking normal «hard» icecream (not soft serve) they generally have a couple flavors of sorbet and/​or froyo that fits that bill. Also, the other location (in the Whitaker district) had, when I last visited, at least 7 flavors of hard ‘icecream’ (some were nut-​based). Anyway, thought I should point that out.
Oh, and they have kombucha on tap!!!

Let’s talk taste. The first time I visited VJ’s, I had to go back for seconds of their blueberry yogurt and fresh-​from-​the-​market Oregon strawberries. I’m pretty sure there’s not a better summer treat out there.
But what about other flavors and toppings? Especially in the fall? Well, a couple of weeks ago I did the chocolate and hazelnut thing and I thought it was pretty perfect, too. I’m not a fan of the syrups, just don’t get ‘em. However, a lot of my friends find the syrups wonderful and the owners certainly put together some delightful-​sounding combos with them.
And then the ingredient? Well, I’m pretty sure all the yogurt is Nancy’s kefir. At least, that’s been confirmed on each of my visits. The fruit is all from the farmer’s market, and from Trader Joe’s if all the market stuff runs out. You can tell from the immaculate, yet small, kitchen that everything really is made in small batches. Well, you can tell that from the taste, too.
Not sure I get the bandwagon dogging about the «dressed-​up, low-​brow foods,» or the «all or nothing» on the local ingredient. I hate to burst your bubble, folks, but it’d be pretty hard to have any kind of food business if everything had to be grown in Eugene. What can I say? A lot of people want blueberries in December. Shoot – even Sundance brings up some of Chile’s produce come mid-​winter. I tried for three weeks to be above the influence, but even I caved (I ate all those blueberries in the parking lot, too).
Where I give big props to Vanilla Jill’s is that they have always been able to tell me where their food comes from. So, if I decide I want local marionberries instead of CA strawberries it’s my choice. I appreciate that.
