History

Established in 1979.

Husband and wife Tom Klitzkie and Barbara Schwarz combined their mutual love of plants, work experience and knowledge and started Nature’s Perspective Landscaping in 1979.

The company had an auspicious beginning. Schwarz’s mother loaned the couple $ 200, which they used to buy a lawn mower, repaying her at the rate of $ 10 a week. At the time, Klitzkie had a full time job as the grounds manager for the Bahal Temple in Wilmette. Schwarz was the plant information officer at the Chicago Botanical Gardens in Glencoe. They worked at their own business in off hours. ‘We worked harder on the weekends than during the week,” Klitzkie says.

Today, Nature’s Perspective Landscaping has over 45 employees, and offers design, installation and maintenance. They have a three-acre facility in Evanston, including a paving and lighting showroom and a one-acre nursery with a large inventory of trees, shrubs and perennials.
