Broadway Animal Hospital

I have been going to Broadway animal hospital with my pets for over 10 years. I have never found a more friendly, affordable vet clinic. They are always vet courteous and the nurses there are so helpful and so amazing. I highly recommend Broadway Animal shelter for all your medical pet needs

By far the best veterinary in town. I know Dr. Smalley for now 9 years and if you looking for the most honest and strait forward and animal lover this is the veterinarian you want to come see. He truly is the definition of a veterinarian.

My initial experience with these people was just «OK.» They didn’t do anything beyond what I came in and paid for, albeit their prices are more $$$ than what I was paying with my previous Vet in So Cal. Also, the girls at the front desk do not seem all that professional at times looking downright confused when I had came in the last time. But it wasn’t a horrible experience so I decided to move forward with them being my dog’s new Vet since we just moved to the area. I’m originally from So Cal. However, I drew the line when I called back today with a request to bring my Lab in for her annual shots. So prior to this call I had already brought my dog in to treat her for her positive stool sample; this was within the last 30days. The recept told me that before I could get her meds, my dog needed to have a physical exam done by the vet. $ 45 for a physical exam. Alright so $ 148 later she finally completed her stool treatment and her fecal test came back negative. HOORAY right? So after that experience I decided ok they are pricey but because they are so close to our home and the visit took place without any catastrophe that they would be our dog’s new vet. However, this morning I had called wanting to set up an appointment to bring my dog in again for her annual shots, they told me, after pulling up my file, I needed to pay another $ 45 for another physical exam on top of the 4 shots she would need (each shot is $ 22) and that I need to bring in a stool sample. What? I then told her that my dog had already done a fecal test with them. What is up with the client files there? Couldn’t they had seen that when they pulled up my file with them? So then They said the vet needs to exam her again to see if she is healthy for shots. Ok… They had already said on her last examination that she was good and healthy and that was why they charged and gave us her meds to treat her coccidia. Like why are you nickel and diming your customers? Bad customer service. I work in cust service and was so turned off by the dispassionate responses of the receptionist when I was voicing my frustration and disbelief to her and having to pay for another physical exam when my dog had already gotten one less than 30days prior. I’m normally one to not take things personally or get frustrated to the point of escalating my situation to someone higher up. I’m pretty easy going and will give people the benefit of doubt before I come to conclusions. This was just unbelievable. Don’t you know how hard it is to gain business in this day and age? You have so many competitors working in the same industry and if you don’t give exceptionally good service and leave your custs with good experiences you will definitely lose business on top of receiving bad reviews and losing potential future business. They eventually called me back to say the vet wants to charge me another$ 45 to see if she is healthy for her shots… Oh brother. Suffice to say I found another vet today that gave me much better over the phone service with fees equaling way less than what this Broadway one wanted to charge me. This other place has better Unilocal reviews too. Unbelievable. I wish I could leave negative reviews instead of a one star.

The staff here is wonderful. I have 6 dogs and foster so I think I might need to take someone to the vet more than most. They honestly care about my dogs and I completely trust them. Both the techs and the vets have my dogs’ best interests in mind. I am very picky when it comes to my pets and have been completely happy when it comes to the care at Broadway. I’ve recommended them to family and friends!

Dr. Smalley is the absolute best! You can tell he truly cares about the animals and what is best for them. I’ve taken my dogs to other clinics over the years and now that I’ve found Dr. Smalley, I will never take them anywhere else. I have 100% complete confidence in his abilities, decisions and advice. I’ve had to take my senior dog in quite a few times over the past few months for various challenges and my experience there is always positive. The front staff are attentive and the technicians are courteous, kind, and thorough. A wonderful place to take your furry four-​legged family members.

Dr Ryan Black did a marvelous job with my kitty who got beat up pretty badly… I felt he took the time to answer all t questions and uses empathy and love with animals! Thank you! You might be the next Dr Dolittle!

Today my family had to say goodbye to our beloved dog. We called around to every home vet that could euthanize in our home, but we didnt hear back from anyone. My dad called the broadway animal hospital to come see if they could come do it since we live very close by. Dr. Black came and helped within 2 hours. We are so grateful for his professionalism and for going out of his way to help us, our dog passed in his favorite chair and had no stress of going to a clinic. Thank you so much!

Thank you for staying late and helping our kitty after she was bit by a neighbor cat. The staff was kind to family and critters alike. I appreciated the kind atmosphere they had set up in the waiting room to the exam rooms. Wow, happy place to be! Thank you all for the help. My family and I had been coming here off and on for years. The staff are friendly, but they don’t seem very experienced. The young lady that was suppose to wrap my dogs bleeding ear couldn’t do it. At first she tried to send him home without any kind of bandage, even though he was dripping blood all over the floor, but I told her she couldn’t leave him bleeding like that. I was surprised she would even consider that an option.
Also, they seemed very unorganized. When I questioned them about an increase in the amount owed vs the amount agreed upon prior to treatment; the young lady got defensive and blamed me, saying that I misread the paper. I later noticed it was because they charged me extra after I insisted on the bandage. They charged 22.50 (I believe) for a piece of white tape that didn’t stay put.
I’ll be taking my pets elsewhere from now on.

I live 2 blocks away and always felt great taking my pets in here. Dr. Shepherd is awesome and truly cares about the pets. Very knowledgeable! Unfortunately, he sold the place and Dr. Gill (the cat specialist) was let go or left. Now Dr. Shepherd is hardly ever there. The new vet, Dr. Smalley, is nice and seems to know what he’s doing, but the prices have skyrocketed!!! I used to bring my dogs and cats in together for vaccines and Dr. Shepherd only charged me for one office visit. Now I get charged for each pet and it was several hundred dollars. I just cant afford that. The compassion and love of animals has been replaced by a new staff and computers. I feel it’s more about the bottom line than the pet. Sad!

Great care, but if you need paperwork prepare to rip your hair out. I moved to Hawaii and I am currently standing at the animal quarantine office waiting for rabies certificates that they have messed up on 3 times now. Needless to say I am incredibly frustrated and I’m not even counting that one of their receptionists accused me of not coming to this vet because she couldn’t find my dogs records. Keep all of your documentation!

I can’t believe there are any negative reviews about this place… strange.
They are great with people and animals. The wait is far less than the last vet we had. They’re prices are comparable. What more would you want in a vet? We were at our last vet for 10+ years and I’m glad we tried this place because it’s closer. I’m happy to stay because they are awesome.

25 years ago, we were new to the area and I tried a few vets. My dachshund Heidi picked Broadway. Heidi passed away 20 years ago at the age of 15 and we have had 3 dachshunds and 2 cats since. They have all been treated by Broadway vets. I have never been unhappy with the care my pets have received there.

Dr. Smalley is so attentive, caring, kind and really knows what he is talking about and not just in it to change you for a ton of unnecessary things. He really loves animals. He has taken such good care of my kitty. The girls in the front and the tech’ are also very kind and professional. I would highly recommend bringing your animal here and seeing Dr. Smalley! About a year ago I’d accidently given my cat the wrong flea medication and it poisoned her, I immediately brought her in and they saved her life. 2 days ago my dog ran out into the road and was hit by a car, I at first brought him to pilchuck animal hospital and received horrible care for my animal. They wouldn’t stitch him without blood work being done. So the next day I immediately took him to see Dr. Smalley. He did such an amazing job with him and he listened to all my concerns and thoroughly explained everything to me to make sure I was comfortable with all the care he was wanting to provide. The place may be shabby but don’t let they turn you away, every staff member works extremely hard and it is clearly obvious that each and every one of them genuinely care about animals. Jamie was talking to my dog and showing care for my dog. He didn’t even want to leave and he was smiling for them. It’s obvious my dog loves the staff and Dr. Smalley and if he is okay with someone that speaks volumes for me because animals have good instincts about people. I will be keeping Dr. Smalley as a regular vet for ALL my animals!

If I could rate them with zero stars, I would. I brought my 4 year old chihuahua in on a Saturday because he stared vomiting Friday night. He was lethargic and had no energy and looked terrible by Saturday afternoon when I took him to the Broadway Animal «HOSPITAL». When you take a pet to a place with HOSPITAL in the name, you expect that they will be qualified to diagnose your sick pet. The vet was very nice to me and my dog so I was trusting of him. He did the usual exam, feeling his stomach, looking at his ears and mouth, taking his temperature. He made comments about how depressed my dog looked, to which I agreed. That is why I brought him here. He is vomiting and not at all like himself. The vet took some notes and said he would like to run some tests. I agreed and was then told the X-​ray machine needed to warm up for 30 minutes so I should go get a coffee and they would call me when he was ready to be picked up.
They took my dog to the back room so I left to go get a coffee like they said. I got a phone call about 15 – 20 minutes later saying my dog was ready. When I arrived, he was still in the back and I didn’t see the vet again. They rang me up and charged me $ 440.34 for all the «tests» they did. As I was paying I asked what was wrong with him and what the tests showed. They ran my card and I signed the receipt. Then they told me that they don’t have the skill sets to look at the tests and they had to send them out to a «specialist».
This is all information they should have disclosed before they charged me $ 440. I asked if they had any idea what was wrong with my dog. The front desk girls started to laugh and said he’s one of the saddest looking dogs we’ve ever seen and he has gas! They thought this was hilarious and they brought him out to me.
$ 440.34 to be told my dog has gas?! Why would gas cause vomiting?! They had no answer.
They told me he was fine and just to take him home and monitor him and they would call me once they had his results.
Monday morning first thing, my dog was still not better. I called them and asked for his test results. They told me they had them but needed to go over them and would call me back in 15 minutes. They never called back. 2 Hours later, I had an appointment at another vet. The new vet took one look at my dog and felt his stomach and knew immediately that he had an intestinal blockage. They could not believe the Broadway Animal Hospital sent me home with my dog. They did not even give him any pain medication when he was clearly in pain. The new vet called them for the results and they sent them within 10 minutes.
As I was in the exam room with the new vet, the old vet called me. He said we have your dog’s test results and they came back a little funky. I’d like you to bring him back in for more tests. At that point I knew that vet was a scammer and didn’t care about my dog in the least bit. He wanted money and that is all. I told him I was with a new vet and was extremely upset with their practice. I got off the phone and scheduled my dog’s surgery and care. He was almost dead at this point.
The next day while my dog was in recovery and facing multiple complications due to the lack of immediate treatment, I received another call from the old vet asking me to bring my dog back for more tests. I then explained to him that my dog was already in surgery and was recovering after being on his death bed no thanks to this supposedly qualified animal hospital.
He raised his voice and tried to tell me that he told me to take my dog to the ER and that this was not his fault. If he had told me to take my dog to the ER, why would he bother charging me to do all these tests and X-​rays? They would have had to do all these tests at the ER anyway. He never said that and I called him out on it. I then told him what his assistants said about my dog having gas and he tried to deny that! He basically charged me $ 440.34 for nothing, my dog almost died and his emergency surgery, plus days at the ER ended up costing me $ 2200!
All they had to do was tell me from the get go that they were not qualified to care for my dog and I should take him somewhere else. I am beyond disgusted with this animal hospital. All they want is your money and they don’t care if your pet dies. All they see are dollar signs.
I will NEVER go to this place again. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone I care about. I will NEVER condone their horrible care of animals and I am flabbergasted they haven’t been shut down for negligence!
If you love your pet, DO NOT GO TO BROADWAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!! It is not a hospital! They do not have the skill sets to diagnose anything or treat your pets for anything. I will not set foot in that place ever again and I feel sorry for anyone who goes in there and gets charged a ton of money because they love their pet. They will take advantage of you and if your pet is sick like mine was, they could potentially die because of their lack of knowledge!

This vet was recommended to me by a coworker and I brought my dog in for a tooth pull and dental cleaning. I am a dog groomer and trim my dogs nails every 3 – 4 weeks, without my consent they gave him a «courtesy nail trim» and quicked him on almost every single nail (I think they missed making him bleed on 3 nails) the nails are also extremely jagged and look like the clippers were dull and just crushed his nails. He is in obvious pain and was terrified to even let me look at his feet. I will never bring another animal here.

What a great doctor and great office!!! I have been taking my dog and two cats here for a year now, and also reccomended a friend here who I accompanied him with his older pup… Dr Sheppard has always been absolutely amazing with our animals, takes considerable time with them, us and even takes the time to not onky personally call you with test results but has also taken my phone calls immediately to discuss my pets care. The office staff is always attentive and kind, the vet assistants are gentle and through. I am more than impressed with this clinic and those who work there! I even to this day drive the extra 30 minutes from where I moved to in order to go to them.
As a pet owner of 25+ years, I would have to say that Dr Sheppard and those at the Broadway Animal Clinic are one of the only two doctor’s/clinic’s that I am impressed with and will continue to see (the other was in Michigan).

I took my beloved golden retriever winston to see DR Shepherd for his check up and vaccinations today. The doctor has the very best bedside manner I have ever seen in a veterinarian! It was very clear to me that Dr shepherd really loves our pets and really cares about them. The office staff is also very pleasant and easy to work with. What a wonderful experience!

Dr Smalley is an exceptional Vet. Our dog (s) have been cared for several times at the Seattle office where he practices, on the recommendation of friends who have benefitted from his practice. Every experience I’ve had has been 10 000 000% awesome.
(When someone here makes several 1-​star reviews of other Vets, I hear malpractice shakedown, not an objective review.)
