H&R Block

Cheryll was incredibly friendly which is why I gave two of these stars. Unfortunately, I was quoted around fifty dollars over the phone when asking about the average cost of their services. Even with a newcomer coupon that Cheryll used, it was still over 150 to file with them. I don’t own property or have any dependents. I have student loans and had one retirement payout. That is the extent of any additional forms.
I told Cheryll that I would have to set up an installment plan. She gave me the form for that to mail off. I did; howevever, I just received a note today saying that I am late on paying off my taxes. I called and they do not have me signed up for an installment plan. They did however cash the check that I sent with the form. Have no idea if this is the IRS or if I was not given the correct documents to send, which is why I added one more star to the review.
When I expressed that I sent the form and would not be paying any late fees as I know they received my correspondence because the check was cashed, the woman from the IRS told me that those penalty and interest fees are still applied even if you have an installment plan. If your taxes are not paid in full by April 15^th, you receive these fees each month regardless of whether or not you are paying on your taxes. This is probably my biggest beef. Cheryll did not inform me that I would be paying fees if I chose to do the installment plan. This might be common knowledge for some, but this is the first time I have had to use that option and I should have been informed of this. I paid 150+ dollars to be guided through this process, and have just spent about an hour and a half on the phone with the IRS getting all of the information I should have been told during my appointment.
All in all, Cheryll was a lovely lady. I enjoyed my time working with her. However, for what I paid, I do not feel that things were done correctly (again could be issues on the IRS side of things as well) or that I was well informed about my options. I will not be working with H&R Block in the future.

There’s one tax preparer here that I’m especially fond of. She has been in the business for over 25 years and knows how to make you feel loved, even when you owe money. She is a giver of gifts, chocolate, refunds, and hugs. The rest of the staff is friendly as well, but it’s Cheryll Kelly who gets our patronage every year.
Oh yeah, and she’s my mom.

I certainly do not love doing my taxes each year. But the team at this H&R Block makes the experience bearable (I would love to say «enjoyable,» but it IS taxes after all). I have had Cheryll doing my taxes for a number of years and she is second to none. Not only does she have a heart of gold, she finds every opportunity to save us money where she can. Oh, and she has (seemingly unending) chocolate on her desk! The receptionists are always friendly and accommodating of my busy schedule. Cheryll and her team are leaders in their industry, highly capable, and genuinely concerned for their customers’ best interests. I am not going to say that I look forward to doing my taxes each year, but I DO look forward to spending the time with Cheryll and her team at this H&R Block!
