Old Log Theatre

As an executive admin, I bought gift cards including dinner for some clients here. I can not tell you the wonderful staff to help with that purchase. They care very much on the experience and went above and beyond to help me with many questions. I live pretty far north, but they way they handled my business will lead me to bring my family for a performance this summer.
Outstanding to see service like this is still available in the industry.

My mom surprised me with a birthday present to go to the wedding singer here. We both haven’t ever been here before and we had a great Saturday evening. The play was so funny, cute and was very entertaining, we will definitely be back again. Everything inside looked brand new it had a great ambiance and it had a restaurant and bar, and we found out the kitchen makes everything in house. Which makes me excited to check out their Wednesday date night, $ 20 for a chef created meal, 1 appetizer, entrée and dessert. I will highly recommend going here for any occasion and definitely make time to try an appetizer or two. Staff was very friendly and it was fast service during intermission. We will be going back and bringing more people to enjoy the evening.

Theater geek that I am, I’m embarrassed to say it took me so long to get to Old Log. We took the kids to see Cinderella and we were all impressed by the talent onstage, and the facility as well! Although advertised as a kid friendly play, I’d say it was slightly more big kid than some of our local theaters. If you go to a matinée during a school break, you might see a bunch of school buses. School groups make me nervous (under supervised kids who dont really want to be there) but shout out to the group who came in on Hastings buses, bc that was a long ride and your kids and chaperones were the bomb! There was unfortunately a group of two families near us with an unhappy toddler who should have been removed. TBH, I was impressed the actors didnt break character to tell them to go to the lobby. And I was a little sad no usher came in to address the situation.

I’ve seen several shows (mostly farces) here over the years, and we have always thoroughly enjoyed them. I’ve laughed harder here than probably anywhere else, at the excellent shows, the comedic talent, and the farcical situations that the play’s characters find themselves in.
It’s a great place to go with friends, parents, in-​laws. They always do an excellent job with sets, and we’ve always had decent seats. I highly recommend the Old Log.

Well, we just came back from watching «Outside Mullingar» which had its regional debut here. I must say that we were pleasantly surprised by the venue. Yes, it is a bit away from everything being in Excelsior. However, it was a nice change of scene. Plus, we got a $ 15 coupon for 2 wine drinks and 1 dessert. The lady finger with amaretto crème and biscotti was simply delicious. Also, we got really nice seats for Gold Star at ½ off. We will be sure to check this out later. Plus, the cast and crew came to join the audience for refreshments in the restaurant.

Life could be a dream was a cute play done well. The cast is very good and enthusiastic. All in all a fun evening. We’ll be back.

Excellent shows and a great atmosphere! Also, make sure you eat at Cast & Cru before the show. It’s fantastic.

Life Could Be A Dream, is a pleasant evening of singing and dancing which is uplifting and is a must see if you recall any of the do-​wop music of the «50’s-“60’s. The cast has the singing ability which says, they belong on Broadway! And, sure enough some were recently on Broadway and were brought to The Old Log Theater just for this show. When these young actors open their mouths and sing you just hear NYC voices. You will want to toe tap and you will probably want to sing along with each song. I did. Every song deserves an applause, the performances are that good.
Go with friends and have a fun evening. At the end of the show, the cast leaves thru the lobby, so, if you don’t rush out you can thank them and meet them after the performance.

What more can I say that my fellow Unilocalers have not already raved about? This was my first time here and it most definitely will not be my last!
I had gotten a great deal on Goldstar for Steel Magnolias so I gave it a whirl on the cheap. It was better than I ever thought it would be. I was thinking it might be some grungy old log Theater just like the name implies but it was beautiful. They have a restaurant attached which looked so lovely and relaxing. They also have a small bar you can sit and have drinks before the show or you are welcome to take the drinks in with you. (As long as you tell the bartender to put it in a plastic cup).
We had great seats. The seats were comfortable with plenty of leg room. A taller person might disagree but for this shorty, I could almost sprawl my entire leg out straight in front of me!
Sound was great, lighting was good, and I most definitely will be back!
FYI-​They are closed for a bit in early summer to remodel the Theater and Restaurant. I think it looks great as is but heck if they are going to make it even better, all the better.

Our recent experience included a wonderful expression of Minnesota’s fan favorite walleye in a chowder. Highly recommend it.
The smoked pork chop was juicy and very flavorful. Their homemade smoke process makes it a hit.
The new owners have taken great care in improving the overall experience at the Old Log Theater.
With the current run of Almost Maine you won’t be disappointed. Must see!

This is a lovely regional theater worth supporting. It’s super homey and always produces well rounded shows. Every holiday season, the theater offers a sweet children’s production. A restaurant is on site here so you can do a meal and show or just the show. A local family owned and a produced shows which launched some notable careers. Recently a new family took over and fixed it up. Please support your local theater. You won ‘t regret it.
Nestled into Excelsior, you can make an event of your trip to the Old Log. You can take in one of the neighborhood restaurants or just take in a yummy post-​show dessert of homemade custard at Adele’s across the street.

Attended matinée of Cowgirls. Absolutely amazing! The Star Tribune review did not do it justice. See for yourself. Incredibly fun, energetic & extremely talented actors/​musicians. Our party of four could not remember when we had such a fun afternoon!

New owners are really fixing the place up! The dinner was fabulous – wine was reasonable – show was amazing! We went to the opening show of the season – Cowgirls – and will now be buying season tickets (which are a steal!).

Despite its 600 seat theater, the Old Log actually feels cozy and intimate. The theater is beautiful, and I’m sure the scenery outside is lovely, but we didn’t walk around seeing as how it was blustery, cold, and well, February in Minnesota.
I was visiting my family last weekend, and we came here to see Everybody Loves Opal. We arrived before the show for dinner and enjoyed sitting in front of the cozy fireplace while waiting to be seated. The dinner service was very good, and the food was great. Our party ate the prime rib, garlic shrimp, and the vegetarian option, which was homemade ravioli and tortellini. All of the food was excellent (even the bread!), but we were very impressed with the pasta. Most places give short shrift to vegetarian fare, but not this one.
After filling up on dinner (by the way, the servers box up your leftovers and you can pick them up after the play), we filed into the theater for the show. It was funny and lighthearted, and the acting was great. The prices for dinner and the show are affordable and quite a bargain. We had a lovely evening, and I’d definitely come back again.

While visiting this July, a friend treated us to tickets to see the Dixie Swim Club at Old Log Theater. The play has been held over until 9÷11÷10 — so I wanted to get this review in so you’d know to get your tickets for this amusing and sweet production!
The serene approach from the parking lot to the property eased us in to the rustic charm. I understand there’s a dinning room to enjoy a meal on property, before your show. We came just for the theater, though.
I was surprised by the size of the theater. It seats over 600. The rural auditorium has a barn-​crossed-​with-​country-​club feeling, though it didn’t get in the way of enjoying the performance one bit. I think this would be a great venue for something like Oklahoma, Paint Your Wagon or Annie Get Your Gun.
The Dixie Swim Club — and it looks like most (if not all) of this season’s shows — is not a musical. It’s a touching comedy about 5 college swim team friends who meet at a beach cottage on the outter banks of North Carolina each August for some girl time. Each scene is set in one of those Augusts: 22 years after graduation, 27 years after graduation, 32 years after graduation and 55 years after graduation. The set is simple and so is the story. To tell specifics would be too much of a spoiler. Suffice to say: the lines they sling as they update one another (and us) on their lives will put a smile on your face and create something you can enjoy with a group of girlfriends or generations of women within your own family.
Tickets are $ 20 – 30 depending on the show time.
Our host/​emcee did a great job introducing the event and, evidently, has written «the book» on the Old Log Theater.
Depending on the production, I would totally go back!
