Bear with me, this is a long one. I have a Dress Barn near my office in Washington, DC. I went there earlier in the week, before my ill-fated trip to Dress Barn Fairfax, but they did not have anything in my size. So, I made the trip to Dress Barn Fairfax on a Saturday. My husband was with me and I wanted to try on some of the dresses I had seen in the DC store. First, the selection was mediocre. I wasn’t able to find more than half the styles I had seen in the DC store. But I tried to not let that deter me, and instead kept digging through racks. Much like the DC store, I was unable to find most things in my size(which is not abnormal, I am a 6⁄8 depending on the style and cut). Also, there was an extreme crowding issue in the store. It was very difficult to navigate amongst and around racks. Once I found three dresses to try, I walked back to the fitting room. My husband generally accompanies me into the fitting room, so I don’t have to parade around in clothes I might not like. We got back to the fitting room and none of them were open. I proceeded to wait, with my husband, right inside the door. Also, a quick note, the store has three areas for fitting rooms. Only one was open. And two of the rooms in the open area were being used for storage. So, I’m waiting for a fitting room. No one is assisting me, or anyone in the rooms. Another gentleman is waiting inside the door for his wife and sister. A male sales attendant walks up to us and very curtly says«He is not allowed to be in there,» to the other gentleman. Then he looks at me and my husband with disdain and says, «He is not allowed in here either,» with clear exasperation. A female sales attendant looks at me like I’m an idiot and says«There are women CHANGING in there.» Well, since I’m not an idiot and that was my purpose for being in the fitting room, I understood. However, it is entirely inappropriate to scold a customer in that manner. If that is there store policy, that is fine. Someone could have told me that quietly and we would have complied. This was not handled well. Then, duly chastised, my husband exits and doorway and I STILL haven’t received any service. Because I don’t have my husband with me, I am forced to walk across the fitting room and out into the store area with my entire back exposed so he can zip a dress for me. I was not happy by this point. Then, a few women walk into the full fitting room and a sales attendant immediately comes in, asks them why they are waiting and … wait for it … OPENS A NEWFITTINGROOM! I had to wait for several minutes until I was able to try on clothing, but these women were escorted to try on their items. I was livid. I walked out without buying anything and I will not EVER be back. Nor would I recommend anyone else go there. Later, my husband told me he was followed around by that male attendant when I sent him to get me different sizes, as though he was going to steal something. It is important to note, we are two clean cut, young people. We are not grungy or out of place in a respectful setting. And, I am writing this review after calling the store repeatedly the Monday after the incident to speak to a manager. No one answered the phone. So here I am, writing a review and hoping to prevent someone else from having the horrible experience I did.
