H&R Block

Did a walk-​in yesterday, and regretted it. I guess, if you do a walk in you typically get the person who has no appointments that day which says something. Made our appointment for 5:00 pm (it was 4:00 so we went to grab a bite to eat), and she made us wait till 5:15. I will have to say it was bad, really bad. Seemed like she was hurrying me, clearly felt she did not care about her job. She asked if I had any deductions, at least turbo taxes run’s through a list to see if you qualify.
Told her that i had not received my refund from last year, and that i have not been able to get a hold on a person at the IRS, and the website had locked me out. Her solution was to call more often, and that i have not been persistent enough. Looking back i probably should have stopped the process there and walked out.
Deductions were the maximum for student loan interest, but even when i told her I had copies at home, she took some convincing to actually put it down. Insisting that I should not do that without the copies.
I understand all it takes is one bad employee to ruin the image of a company, but i much rather do the taxes myself or go elsewhere. You have been warned. Seriously though, if doing taxes wasn’t bad enough.
By the way she asked me two or three questions, my birthday and if i had any deductions and maybe one more. The rest was fill in the blank. 10 to 15 minutes and bam a $ 150 bill.
Sorry turbotax for cheating on you, I learned a valuable lesson.

My past experiences have not been great, so I’ve never been a big fan of H&R block. However, once my tax situation got complicated, I decided the H&R block guarantee was hard to beat. So, let’s say you end up with a not-​so-​great Tax associate, the company should fit the bill if the IRS comes after you.
Some tips: show up prepared — have your W-​2, charitable donations, bank income statements, etc — all the stuff you need when you normally do your taxes at home — I wish they would provide a summary e-​mail of items to bring. If you show up prepared, you should be in and out within half an hour.
Although the office itself could use a little sprucing up, the receptionists are always polite, and they offer coffee (a hometown feelin’ perk). Appointments can also be easily made online or on the phone. I found my tax professional by searching their database.
With that being said, I really lucked out by working with Mr. Brian Hayden. He’s probably one of the best tax professionals I’ve worked with. I really appreciated his professionalism, punctuality, and overall expertise. Although H&R block offers many (ridiculous, and probably unnecessary, products), Mr. Hayden wasn’t a product pusher. He also worked to find every benefit he could for my behalf. He also proactively provided recommendations for the next fiscal year and how I could accrue more tax savings.
I’ll definitely be back to work with Mr. Hayden next year!

I guess the way I look at it, if it’s gotta be done, get it done by a professional.
Like a trip to the dentist, do it quick, get it done and over with.
It’s always painful… always.
