Had these guys diagnosis a potential issue with a bearing in my transmission or a shaft bearing. The sound confused things and made it difficult to pinpoint. Had a few people look it and even replaced the obvious components. No luck and expected to hear the worst and that my tranny needed to come out. No need, they diagnosed the problem perfectly. I didn’t get the car fixed there due to other arrangements. These places are hard to come by in this area and these guys are honest. I would definitely recommend.

HTT is the best transmission spot in the area, hands down. Robert and the owner, Mike, are two genuinely nice guys. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and stand behind their work, warrantying it as well. Planning to take my old Jeep here shortly for a clutch job and am actually looking forward to it. Great guys, nice shop.

This was a very positive experience for me. I have a 1971 Corvette I didn’t want just anyone working on it. They treated my car as well as I do. They are courteous, professional, do great work and there price’s are fair. They are the BEST.

These guys are open and honest. Brought my RX300 with 250k miles on it after it started bucking like a bronco after I replaced my timing belt.
They gave me a ride home back to Arlington which was about 50minutes round trip while they looked it over. They called me after their diagnostic and reset it for no charge!
Love this type of business. Points to them for their customer service. Hope I never need their services but if I do they would be my first choice in the NOVA area.

A friend recommended Hi-​Tech and it was a great decision to go there. Previously, I had been told I needed to rebuild my transmission and it was estimated at 5000! Hi-​Tech said that it was a good chance it was just the computer system and and they were right. They helped us make the right decision to fix the computer and not junk the car. It was around 1500, but much better than 5000! Great service and advice!

These people did me an act of kindness so I hope to return the favor with a positive review. I was directed here from Mr. Tire, where I was told that I had a transmission problem. I was about to drive from VA to OH for a funeral and really didn’t have the time or the money for getting my transmission looked at. My car had been running smoothly, it just had an off moment the day before when I turned it on the first thing in the morning and it immediately turned off. Honestly, if I weren’t driving all the way to Ohio, I wouldn’t have been worried. The man who spoke with me at the counter told me that they were extremely busy and might not be able to get me in until Monday (it was a Friday). When a repairman came in to the front office, the man at the desk described my problem to him and asked if he could quickly look at my car. I didn’t have to wait very long before the repairman came back and said he wasn’t able to replicate the problem, told me what he thought it was, and gave me the green light for my trip.
I’m saying they did me an act of kindness because I came into the place crying (re: the funeral I was trying to drive to) and I think they saw this and took pity on me. I tried to keep it together, but my voice broke when I was telling them about my problem and even if they didn’t see tears they definitely saw REALLY red, raw eyes. May be a small thing, but I could see how busy they were (there was barely a place to park my car — seriously. When I left someone else was waiting to take my spot!) and at the time it meant the world to me. Have I had them work on my transmission? No. Would I go back here? Yes.

Store estimated $ 2700 for refurb transmission replacement and they said they gave me a huge discount already! I fixed my car’s logical units in another store for only $ 800.

You are not going to find better service and prices from any where else. I have been going to Tommy since I was a teenager at the demand of my father. I am now over 60. They are very trustworthy
If you do not have a problem, they will tell you.

My experiences with Hi-​Tech have always been way above expectation but I just got a Unilocal account so I’ll summarize my great experience. I’ve tried to spend money there but they won’t let me, the few times I was in a tough spot and needed a transmission specialist, I went over there, got what I needed and they kept saying it would be no charge. I mean that’s a great business to have around but I would like to actually pay them for something.
First time I went was 5 years ago when my sister’s front wheel drive Oldsmobile had the differential grenade. I removed the differential from the transmission and brought it to Hi-​Tech on my lunch break looking for an option to replace or make repairs. They told me they would look into it and to come back in the afternoon. I came back in the afternoon and they had rebuilt the differential for me and would not accept any money for the labor or parts. They said it was no big deal and they had some extra spider gears laying around. Amazing! I tried to pay for it and they said no, it’s no big deal. Well it was a big deal for me because they saved me a lot of time!
Second time I went over there I needed a specific part for a Ford AOD transmission. There’s this little seal on the shifter shaft that prevents the fluid from leaking out and mine was bad. I called around to auto parts stores and they had no clue what I was talking about and said I would have to special order it from a dealer. I thought well, Hi-​Tech was a big help in the past, I’ll ride over there and see if they can order it. I went over to Hi-​Tech, explained what I needed and the guy at the counter led me back to where his techs were working. I told the tech what I was looking for and he pulled one off a shelf and said that was the seal I need. Again, I tried to pay them for the part but they kept saying don’t worry about it. It was indeed the seal I needed and I didn’t even have to buy it. Another great experience.
The most recent time I went to Hi-​Tech was when I was changing the input shaft on a Borg-​Warner 5-​speed manual transmission. I could not remove the bearing from the shaft without pressing it off using a special tool, which I didn’t have. Instead of trying to rig something up and possibly damaging the bearing which needed to be transferred to the new shaft, I went over to Hi-​Tech again. I walked in and asked them how much they would charge me to get the bearing off the input shaft. The guy at the counter said just a sec and went around back. He came back in about 1 minute with the bearing in one hand and the input shaft in the other. I was impressed, that was fast, I didn’t expect them to go and do it right away. I got out my wallet to pay and again I was told don’t worry about it, no charge! What? No charge again? Are you sure man? He said it’s no big deal.
Three times to this place, amazing customer service and fast turn around and they refuse to charge me any money!
These guys are serious about helping their customers and genuinely honest people.

I have taken several cars to Hi-​Tech over the years. I have nothing but great things to say about these guys. Many years ago during our snowmagedon my K-​5 would not shift into 4×4. I lived about a mile or so from the shop at the time and called them for help. They close at 5, I called at 5:20ish and they still answered their phone. They ended up sending one of their techs to my location to get my 4×4 engaged. The guy was crawling around under the truck in the snow, after hours, fixed whatever the issue was on the spot and then declined any money for the service. This was all before I had ever done any business with them. They have since worked on my Syclone several times for different issues, my cousins car, and, soon, my jeep. I had my rear diff rebuilt by them as well as the front and couldn’t be happier with their work ethic and honesty. This is a great shop located convieniently in Fairfax, VA. They have been in the area as long as I can remember. I would have zero hesitation on bringing them my business again in the future. They will give you a free road test & estimate which alot of shops want 70 – 100 just for that. Thanks Mike for all your work on my Syclone, I greatly appreciate everything!

We took our 2006 Volvo XC90 here upon recommendation of our normal repair shop. They said we needed a new transmission — between $ 7500 and $ 10 000. Needless to say, before committing to buy a new car in lieu of that type of repair, we took the car in. They told us that it just needed a new computer for the transmission and tires and we would be as good as new. So, $ 2500 later, on time and for the exact amount they told us it would cost, we are thrilled that we went to them. They were so friendly, conscientious and professional, we will return if the situation warrants it. Thanks guys for a job well done. I have already told friends that if they have a problem, these are the guys!

I’m mostly reviewing this based on poor communication. I dropped off my car at 9 am for diagnostics on why my transmission light was on. Never heard a thing until I call back around 4. They said the car was not ready yet? Ready? You didn’t even tell me the issue, give an estimate get my authorization. Thankfully it was only a 300 dollar repair so I was just grateful I didn’t need a new transmission.
Then when I pick up, they ask for payment and give me my key and never share the issue/​resolution. I ask and they do tell me.
Then when get to my car, it reeks of cigarette smoke. Yuck!

Took my car here on recommendation of someone in the business that uses them all the time. A little apprehensive at first, because one part didn’t want to hear what was wrong with the car and one part, completely frustrated at my situation; read: car wouldn’t act up for the dealer I purchased it from so there was no way for them to diagnosis the problem/​my word against theirs. Anyways within less than a day I was in, looked at, diagnosed and told exactly what needed to be done to fix the problem. If it wasn’t for Hi Tech, or the Auto Gods looking down on my nightmare situation, and having my car repeat it’s problem for them I would be out $ 1100+ for parts and labor since my limited warranty to almost up. Now parts and labor be covered under warranty, thank goodness. I would recommend this shop for transmission specific problems and diagnosis. They were fast, professional and honest. They even did this check for no charge even knowing if anything was wrong with the car it would probably have to get repaired at the dealer I purchased from and not at their shop. We need more places and mechanics like Hi Tech and it’s employees around!
