I needed 7 trees in my backyard (along a main road) dropped into my yard and the stumps grinded as well. In addition, I needed roots in my backyard and side yard grinded. I did my due diligence and had about 4 or 5 companies come out to provide estimates. JL Tree service came in about a third of the estimates of the other companies. They did all the work for $ 1000. Some companies wanted $ 1200 just to drop the trees. Because of the size of the project, they dropped the trees one day and did the roots and stumps about a week later. I was trying to save money, and I needed the firewood anyways, which is why I only wanted them to drop the trees rather than cut them up and haul them away. Although I played phone tag with them at first, Peter happened to stop by when he was in the area and took a walk thru of the property. We ended up doing everything over the phone with the estimates, scheduling, and billing. I was very happy with the work they did on the back yard and side yard.

I had the opportunity to hire JL Tree Service Inc to perform some ‘deadwooding’ on a cherry tree that was making both myself and my neighbor a bit nervous. We hired JL based on their estimate.
After the work was performed, I was disappointed to see that all of the wood, of which I estimate was about a cord and a half, was left piled against my neighbors home. My neighbor and I each have about .5 acres of land and the tree was located right on the border. At the time of the hire, I requested to the scheduler that all of the viable wood should be placed on my property (she noted it and said she would pass on the instructions).
I placed a call the following morning and sent an email asking for the error to be remedied, as I asked for the wood and it was an eyesore on my neighbors property — a simple request.
Despite making follow-​up emails and calls, seven days later, I received a call from John S. with JL. He informed me that he was looking to get a crew over to move the wood. I informed him that after seven days of waiting for any form of communication, I moved the wood myself (with the help of my neighbor).
John spoke to me with a cavalier tone. He informed me that he stopped by four days after the work, but forgot to call me, leave a note or send out a crew (on account of needing to perform estimates at other properties). He finally remembered to at least contact me after seven days.
I now know that once the check I rendered was deposited the day after the work, JL Tree Service had no concern for my request. This was only reinforced when John said he forgot to call or send out a crew (on account of needing to perform estimates at other properties).
JL Tree Service had me as a customer, one who was ready to rehire them for extensive tree removal in Spring 2016, however, they made it clear that once they have your money, they are no longer concerned with customer service or satisfaction. Their priority is not on keeping their customers, rather it is on finding new ones.

I’ve had J&L come by twice for tree work. They work quickly and efficiently and are able to bring down branches very carefully without damaging the surrounding property. So as far as tree work goes, they do a great job. However, they are sloppy on clean up and I have to dock a star because of this. They ate lunch and snacks throughout the day, which is perfectly fine, but at the end of the day I found snack wrappers, used napkins, and crumpled soda cans scattered around the property! I pointed out a few of these items to them and they picked them up but after they left I kept finding more trash scattered around. Later on I saw that they had also tossed sets of dirty gloves and other miscellaneous trash into my recycle bin that I had to fish out one by one. Needless to say I was not happy to clean up after them.

Update — 3.5 to 4 stars. With the circumstances and objects in their way, the crew did a meticulous job. Yes, I was wowed. Regarding the problems — the walnut dust /​juglone issue I mentioned was something I should have anticipated and had the crew not blow it. Second, imo the invoice issue was unusual in our case, but perhaps internal communication still needs attention to prevent repeats. Finally, with the oil leak issue, I spread kitty litter and that worked well, and they’re sending out a crew to powerwash. So hopefully that will be satisfactory. If not, we’ll have to talk about resealing. So the company needs to eagle-​eye equipment maintenance and vehicle leaks bc nothing good can result otherwise.
Overall, however, I will recommend them to neighbors.

We just hired this company to remove two trees, a Birch and a cherry tree and to do some other trimmings around the property. This was our first time ever having to deal with trees and I can’t stress enough how satisfied we were with the service we received. I will point out and agree with the other reviewer’s that getting them to your house or responding to an email is tedious. (I should mention the week that we called for an estimate was just after terrible storms, so I am sure that had something to do with how hard it was to get ahold of them.) I had originally called for an estimate I wasn’t told what time they would arrive and how to schedule it I was just told I would be contacted. Sean contacted me within a couple days and said he was in the area if you could stop by. he came and gave a great estimate and explained everything very thoroughly. I then followed the directions on the estimate to schedule an appt and I heard nothing. I resent the estimate and I called them again and that seem to spark something and we got an appointment. The three man crew arrived within the time window that Sean had specified and they went straight to work. They did a phenomenal job. Within the next business day the stump grinding crew came out. They also did a phenomenal job, a lot less mess than what we had expected. Overall we are extremely happy with the service we received, we would absolutely recommend them to other homeowners and if we ever need any further tree work on our property we will rehire them.

I’m just a renter. My landlord had them do a pruning around the house. Good guys. Even picked up my pile of trimmings (that I was too late to take to the street for pickup) without being asked. Even took some time to cater to my 3 year old that was amazed at the «tree guy climbing with a lasso».

Based on the work that JL Tree did removing one large hardwood tree (over 200′) and two smaller evergreens (30′), I would recommend them. I’m pleased with John’s responsiveness on the quote, and especially with the work done by Hector and his crew. They had a tough job, but they handled it well and impressed me with the job preparation, execution, and cleanup.
This was no easy job. We had a 200′ maple in the back of our property that had to be cut by a climber, then attached to a crane to be lifted and swung over a house, and then lowered in a pretty small opening among some trees into an awaiting wood chipper in the driveway. Given the tight space of this job, I appreciate that the crane operator (didn’t catch his name) and the rest of the crew took care when setting up the footing and that each piece of the tree (each was a medium-​sized tree) was handled well. The work was steady and done carefully. When the job was done, they rake and cleaned up the area well.

Based on other reviews here, I imagine if you are able to finally get them to come to your house, they provide a very good service.
Unfortunately, I can’t get them to call me back.
When I originally called, on a Friday, I was told by the receptionist that they would call me back in 4 – 5 days to schedule an appointment for an estimate. It’s been two weeks now, and no call back. We’ve now taken care of our tree problem ourselves.

Moved into a house in Burke. Needed lots of tree pruning as there was no light in the back yard. We got a couple of estimates. JL was by far the best price. It took a couple of weeks for them to come out for the job, mostly due to the constant rain and storms. The work they did was 5 Stars, they were professional, friendly, and did a perfect job! Cleaned up all the tree limbs and leaves from the work and chipped all the branches on site. Would highly recommend to any one looking for Tree services.

I used JL Tree Service when I bought my home several years ago. They did a wonderful job and I was really pleased with the work they performed. I recently needed several large trees cut and I requested an estimate from JL Tree Services in addition to three other reputable companies for comparison. Lets just say that all three bids were well above my estimate from JL Tree Services. One company wanted three times the cost of my estimate with JL. I understand business and I understand competition however some of my bids were to the point of being absurd. Needless to say, I hired JL for the job.
The team that came to my house were awesome. They did their job and did it well. They all worked together and cleaned up when they were done. I am very happy with their services and would highly recommend them to anyone.

We have used JL a few times, great price, great service. Two weeks ago a tree fell from outside my property, over 50 feet from my house, and landed on my deck and roof at 5 PM. By 7:30 that evening I had an estimate, by 10:00 AM the next day, the tree and all the debris was removed!
JL took the time to work with my insurance company to ensure they understood what was needed to remove the tree to pay my claim.

Their estimate went to my junk inbox, so I missed it at first and called them. They were very nice and emailed it to me again anyway. Their rate was much lower than the other two Tree service companies I contacted. I have this giant oak tree that had some broken branches. I asked them to take care of the broken branches and to trim the tree as they saw fit. They came out and trimmed the tree nicely and took care of the broken branches. I didn’t deal with them personally, because I was at work. The clean up afterward didn’t leave any branches on the ground. Their online payment service was very convenient. I would use them again.

I got a few quotes for our 2 ton tree out back and these guys were buy far the best. About half the price. They were fast, cleaned up their mess, and our tree looks great now.
Everyone was very nice, except for one secretary I spoke with. John knows his trees and is great with any questions you might have!

Received a phone call from someone at this company who was confirming tree removal from my front yard. I said he must be mistaken that we had not ordered any sort of tree removal. He preceded to tell me my neighbors had all pitched in to remove a tree in my front yard. I asked what address he had for the tree removal bc I was trying to be sure he didn’t have the wrong number. He was rude and cut me off to tell me to remove any personal belongings from the area and that the «heavy machinery» would be there in the morning. I again asked what address or address of these neighbors he had. Nothing. Guessing they cannot step foot on my property without my consent, let alone remove a tree???

This is the second time I’ve had JL Tree Service remove trees for us. I can’t recommend this company enough. I’ve always gotten fair prices and trust their arborist, Peter.
Yesterday, 3 incredibly strong and very nice men removed a massive poplar quickly and with minimal damage. The tree was too close to the back of the house, so a crane couldn’t reach the area. These 3 took the tree down quickly, rolled huge pieces of stumps UP the driveway or carried them to the street. Later, a truck came with a claw and took away the stumps.
Considering it’s the dead of winter, JL Tree managed to clean the area. You would never know these guys were here.
And did I mention that it’s cold out there.
I always feel that it’s a professional company with the proper equipment and trained personnel. After years of being burned by small time operators, it’s a relief to deal with professionals.

I live on a small lot between two very busy streets. The crew from JL was able to maneuver their huge truck into the driveway and operate the bucket around phone and power lines without damaging anything. Each man in the four man crew was very professional and courteous. They worked together as a team smoothly and efficiently to get the job done. JL Tree Service is a long time family owned and operated business. I believe in supporting community business owners. Their prices are very competitive.

I have large yard with many large mature trees. Sounds like a dream except I have a pool and only get 2.5 hours of sunlight. The pool is too cold to swim on the warmest days because the lack of sunlight. I used a smaller tree company previously and wasn’t too happy with their work, so I decided to contact a bigger company in the hopes of having better service… I am so happy that I picked JL Tree.
Sean was very pleasant, open and honest with his estimate and gave me a few options and helped me plan which trees needed to go now vs the ones that can go later vs the ones that could be trimmed. The estimate was very competitive and he was realistic with my expectations and budget.
Scheduling took some time, but it was understandable since I had a very big job. I had a 150 – 200 year old tulip poplar, some smaller trees removed and additional tree trimming that was two full days of work. The job was difficult because the trees were inaccessible to a crane, straddled a 8′ tall fence and had to be manually hauled by hand trucks.
Hector’s crew (#40) was very professional and despite working hard for two days in the heat of the summer, they all managed to have smiles on their faces. The crew cleaned the yard and the mess to my satisfaction. They even did a perfect job in clearing the debris that fell into my neighbor’s yard (tree was on the property border).
I will definitely have JL Tree service do more work in the near future and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their service.

JL Tree Service took down a large (unfortunately dying) tree for us yesterday. They were timely, extremely professional, obviously knowledgeable about what they were doing, and they did a total clean-​up afterwards! Just as they were finishing up a storm front came through, so there wasn’t time to collect all of the logs. They left the logs stacked neatly on the ground, and came back first thing in the morning to finish up. Their quote was also the most competitive one we received! We’ve used them before, and will use them again!

So, of course unplanned expenses add up when you move into a new place. Like your neighbor’s rotting maple tree falling on your oak tree and then both trees hitting a third tree and then 48 feet of your fence. Add the fact that a large limb had broken but was balanced atop another tree creating a very hazardous work zone and endangering our fence/​property again!
Enter JL tree service. I called 5 tree services with mixed results; one even charged $ 65 for an estimate! JL tree did not charge for an estimate. Their estimate was very fair. Not only did I get a same day estimate (via internet request too); they cleared their schedule to provide emergency service the next day after we signed a contract. Good thing too because a little bit of wind and there would have been more debris falling to the ground.
They also provided very fair add on pricing for a small job trimming branches from a cedar tree touching our roof.
The work was done well. Upon request, I even got to keep some of the single chipped debris/​leaves for use as large mulch.
