My husband and I just returned from an appointment with Dr. Murphy at the Retina Group of Washington — Fairfax. We are so pleased with this office, the staff, as well as Dr. Murphy. We trust Dr. Murphy completely and appreciate his gentle nature and extensive experience. Justin gets my husband ready for his visit and is such a fun and knowledgeable young man. My husband enjoys these encounters as much as he can. The staff is very professional and so friendly. We look forward to seeing the ladies in the front office. This office works like a well oiled machine. My husband has issues with his vision. One of the many lovely office staff is Merisole. She is always so friendly and welcoming to us. She goes out of her way to always greet us and is genuinely interested in my husband’s issues and progress. My appreciation and thanks I extend to the entire office. Margaret Hofsass Burke, VA

I stopped going here and went to a real doctor after dozens of cattle-drive type appointments. Every terrifying appoibtmeny was filled with kernels of hope such as: «You’re living on the edge my dear» and«I don’t know if even I can save your vision.» Both of those are actual quotes from doctor Deegan at the RGW. No actual advice or anything resembling a solution was ever given. I was told to «wait it out» when I lost vision in my right eye and they would only operate as a «last resort» measue. When the issues started in my left eye and after meeting with Dr. Deegan I was offered no hope and told to make another no progress appointment in 6 weeks I left and never went back. The new docotr im seeing performsd surgery in both eyes immediately. However, because I was blind in my right eye for so long my vision is likely to return to 20⁄70 at best. I also just learned from my latest glasses appointment that because of the extreme lasering Deegan did my left eye is likely to not improve above 20⁄50. I’m 27 years old. I know I’m not a doctor but I really feel like my vision could have been saved if I didn’t spend so much time at the RGW. :/ I think those with quick fix problens will be fine here but anyone needing personal care or that has chronic issues should stay away. your eyes are very important and you should go somewhere they are treated that way.

I had my first appointment here on 12⁄12. Everything went pretty smoothly, although there was little personal interaction or attention. I felt as though I was not particularly important – just a piece of business to be taken care of(with the exception of one technician who treated me like a human). But they ran a number of tests and seemed to figure out what was going on with my eyes, so, okay. On my second visit on 12/19, a follow-up appointment, I had a 10:00 appointment. I saw a technician fairly quickly – shortly after 10 – and had my eyes dilated. I was then taken to the«inner» waiting room, and I waited. And waited. And waited. It was clear that many other people had been waiting for some time, too. But they all were taken in to see the doctors, and I was not. When new people came into the second waiting room and were taken in, I began to get impatient; at this point, it was about 11:45 – one hour and 45 minutes into my appointment time. I caught a technician and told him my appointment was at 10 and asked when I’d be seen. His reply: «Yeah, it’s really crazy back here.» He offered to check for me. I waited 10 more minutes, and he didn’t return, so I simply left. This is a VERY busy and large practice. Don’t expect much individual attention; they’re all about moving plenty of people through there. The doctors might be very good at what they do; I can’t speak to that because my issue seemed easily resolvable. But I like being treated like a human and not having my time disregarded and disrespected, so I’m not a fan.

Our two year old needed a pediatric evaluation on her left eye, I was informed by our insurance company as well as this office that Dr. Deegan performed pediatric evaluations so we made the appointment. Upon arrival, I noticed there weren’t any other small children nor a play area for a kids, so I was concerned this wasn’t a kid-friendly office. After filling out all necessary paperwork along with the paperwork I already filled out at home, we waited an hour to get into the exam room. Try doing that with a two year old! Once we got into the exam room, a very young and inexperienced assistant came in wanting more information as of why we were there and who exactly referred us to Dr. Deegan. Several minutes later, now going on over an hour to see the Doctor, the assistant came back informing me the Doctor would not see us and referred us to another Doctor’s office. Dr. Deegan wouldn’t even take the time to explain to me why he refused to see my Daughter. I was irate. The best part is that they told me to go by billing on the way out, like I’m going to pay or sign anything for them to bill my insurance when we weren’t seen by Dr. Deegan. My only recommendation is for Dr. Deegan to immediately withdrawal his speciality of Pediatric Ophthalmologist from his repertoire.

Great staff and doctors. Worked with me and my wife regarding her disorder that makes dr’s appointments very difficult and painful. They eased this to the absolute best of there ability and I thank them for that. They really care.
