Concord Feed

First thing they said when I walked in with my dog, «Does he lift his leg when he pees?» So I said no, they then go on about how they want owners to watch their dog if they lift his leg cause he might pee on stuff. But I already answered saying NO. Then they show me the clean up station if he does pee. OMG! Seriously!!! Do you think I would let my dog pee inside and not clean it up?! Do I look like that kind of person?! I have been to so many other pet stores with my dog and I was never treated like this. Then while my dog and I are browsing the aisles they were watching us closely. Sheesh! Go somewhere else. They have a very limited supply of dog stuff anyways. Never coming back!

Would you eat a double-​double or a 12 piece bucket of extra crispy if it was stamped «Made in China?» I’m sure you’d think twice… ‘Depending on how sober you were. So, why would you feed your pet Foo Man Chews Chicken Treats and play «Rottweiler Roulette» with your dogs well being? The number of pet food/​treat recalls from China in comparison is staggering. If you want extra fortified lead, bacteria, or salmonella then not to worry, China’s got you covered.

Pet toys: Now, the flip side to that is most pet toys are predominantly made in China. I try to be selective when it comes to purchasing toys for HAPA Boy but 95% of what’s on the shelves, «Made in China.»

Spend a few extra dollars on kibble & save a trip to the vet’s office along with a small loan but most importantly, avoiding the risk of losing a pet. It’s all fun & games until you’re burying Fido in the rose garden… I’m joking, it’s usually in the empty «dirt corner» of the yard just next to the shed. (Avoid China made food/​treats)
The HAPA —
I came across Concord Feed by chance one day as I was driving by. I tried to look it up on Unilocal*,nada, zilch, nothing… Hmm, let’s make a quick stop. (45 minutes later) I walked in and was immediately greeted by Brenda, who was friendly, helpful, and very enthusiastic about the store, its products, and wanted to show me EVERYTHING. Brenda talked story with me for a bit as she gave me the ten minute tour.
I’m partial to privately owned shops versus the commercial giants like PetSmart for these reasons:
1. Broader selection of premium pet food/​treats. (Made in USA, Australia, New Zealand, etc.)
2. Usually, a very knowledgeable staff that can readily answer most questions.
3. I try to support locally owned/​operated shops especially when most of the time I see just the big, commercial giants putting the smaller shops out of business.
I spent a few minutes walking up & down the aisles but mostly over in the dog section. HAPA, my bully-​pit is allergic to chicken and eggs. (I found out the hard way shortly after rescuing him, «HEY, who spilled pudding down the hallway?!») Also, after reading so many stories in regard to pet food recalls & animal deaths, felt that spending a little bit of time in doing some research would be well worth the cause.
When in doubt, «Google it!» Questions about what’s the best dry kibble, brand name comparisons or simply want to learn more about a particular item? Never has so much information been readily available and it’s just a click away. (Assuming you have internet access. If you do not have access and you’re always leeching off of someone else’s wi-​fi connection then you’re a loser anyway and your pet deserves to die.) I’m just kidding… ‘At the very least, violent diarrhea that leaves a stain that can only be removed w/​scissors.
The dog food section has a wide array of brands, from dry to the the canned wet food. It’s always tough to leave a pet/​feed store without a few items in hand and under $ 20. After all it’s just one more toy? I’m usually good when it comes to refraining from buying just «one more toy,» especially when I think of all the relatively new, hardly played with ones back @ the house.
Now, when it comes to trying different brands of pet food, I usually have no hesitation @ all. I try to change up the HAPA’s food every so often, just to keep it interesting. I know a lot of people who feed their pack the same thing, day in & day out. However, if you think about it, how would you just like to eat the same thing, twice a day, everyday… I would not be a fan. I think the more enriched you make your pet’s life, the more awesome of a life he/​she will have.

‘And happy to report, the HAPA’s a fan of both. (Well, that doesn’t really say a much since he considers cat & geese poop a delicacy.)
Overall, great find! Leah and Brenda were both very helpful, answered many of my usual questions. Concord Feed has a nice variety of goods from chicken feed, horse supplies, bird food, small reptiles, to cats and dogs. However, I did notice their prices are a tad higher than other similar specialty pet food shops.
Drop in for a visit and give them a try, your pet will thank you!

Really nice feed store. Awesome selection of pet supplies and totally reasonable prices. Super customer service quick and friendly. And you have to meet the dog Ginger. Very sweet and friendly pet friendly store.
