Ray’s Cycle

I have been a loyal customer of Ray’s for about three years. Before finding Ray’s I visited many other bike shops in the area, and I can say with confidence that Ray’s Cycle has the absolute best customer service. Other shops in the area treated me poorly or didn’t pay attention to me at all– I can’t say if this was because I am a young female or because I don’t look like I’m made of money… Over the years I have seen the guys at Ray’s serve every kind of person, from novice riders to road warriors, young and old, male, female, all races and religions. No matter who you are, they will treat you with respect! Although I have been into cycling for many years, I had no idea what I was looking for when I went to purchase a new bike. The guys helped me find the perfect bike for my needs. They deserve a ton of credit for this, as I was no easy customer. I spent a long time in the shop over the course of two days, trying out different bikes, test riding them, etc. I eventually chose the bike that they had first recommended to me, which shows that they know exactly what they are doing. They gave me a free tune up on my bike after a few months. Ray’s has a large selection of bikes, ranging from low to high price. I have purchased a vast selection of bike accessories in store, as well as ordered from their catalog. If you want something that isn’t available in their shop, they will order it from their Vacaville location or order online and ship it to the store for you. A lot of times I have found accessories (like gloves, bike lights, phone holders) on sale or reduced price, so be sure to ask! I would recommend this shop to anyone, experienced or not– you’re sure to find a welcoming environment with knowledgeable bike technicians ready to help you out!

I went to 4 different bike stores (2 in Napa, the Ray’s in VV and the Ray’s in Fairfield) and this was sadly the worst experience of them all.
I don’t know who helped me as the guy didn’t give his name. I felt under served and wondered if it was because I’m female. Or because I’m an entry level rider. I don’t know, but I feel pretty confident that if I had been approached by a different sales person, my experience could have been different.
In addition to service, the guy didn’t share much knowledge to make sure I was choosing the right bike for my needs and size. I had to prompt him with questions.
Lastly, I don’t know if other buyers test ride outside of Ray’s tiny back parking lot, but it seemed like that was about the only option. No one is going to get a good feel for a bike if that’s as far as they were able to ride.
Anyway, bought a bike in Napa today and spent $ 250 MORE than I intended because of customer service and knowledge shared.

If you are a new cyclist or practically professional, Ray’s is the place for bikes, bike gear and most important of all, bike repair and maintenance. The staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. The repair staff will always give a reasonable time estimate to complete repairs.

I went in to Ray’s Cycle with the intention of buying a hybrid bike. My brother in law had just bought two there the previous month. I was able to get a nice bike in my price range plus all the trimmings (helmet, lights, water bottle, cell phone holder, etc) and was happy with the total price. Friendly guys in there and great service, they installed all my toys while I was there so I left with a ready to ride bike!

Stopped in because one of my wheelchair tires went flat. I have the extra tires to put on but they declined to change my tires saying that they couldn’t do it until tomorrow. I understand it’s business but this is why I don’t always agree with supporting local businesses because in the city (SF/​Oak) I wouldn’t have had this problem. I don’t know how I’m gonna get to class in a few hours with this flat. Not a good look for Fairfield. I wish there was a triple A service for wheelchair users. I have patronized Ray’s over the past 3 years since becoming paralyzed. I will never shop Ray’s ever again. Unfortunately.

New to the whole biking scene. Came in and was just curious about what kind of bike I can afford and what bike I should get as a beginner/​intermediate. The guy I talked to was very helpful and very knowledgeable. I think his name was Rich. He pointed out a bike for me, which was affordable and was able to test drive a few bikes and was able to figure out the right bike size for me. Although I diddnt get to walk out with a bike (Specialized Rockhopper 29er). It was still a great experience walking in there. And when I am ready to pick one up, I know exactly where to go.

This bike store is awesome! I bought my first road bike… I put about 801 miles in it… it’s wonderful experience, all the staffs are very helpful specially Phil. Always ask for him when you go there.

We have purchased two bicycles from Ray’s and have been thrilled with the bikes, and the service. I went in today with a brake problem, and Brook not only fixed the problem while I waited, and without charging me, but also helped me get the bike on and off my car. I could not ask for better service. Highly recommended!

i’ve been going to ray’s cycle since the 90’s and the guys that work there will provide you excellent service. bob and phil are great, although one when they get crazy busy, phil can start moving a mile a minute, other than that these guys are great. the place is clean, organized, and the prices are fair for a LBS. i know some people i’ve sent there to look at bikes talk about how expensive stuff is there, but they are comparing this place to a big box store like REI, and don’t understand what you are paying for when you go to an LBS.
my only real gripe is that they are another bike shop that mainly deals specialized and trek. not that that’s a problem, but everywhere i go, that’s all i see. i would love to see them deal other brands. again, this place is great if you need some help with your bike, or if you are in the market for a new ride. i bought my fiancé a new mountain bike here (she’s a trek fan), and the price was fair and it was built flawlessly.
ive been building and flipping bikes, everything from BMX, to fixie, road, vintage and MTB, so i know when a bike shop salesperson is feeding me a line of bull. these guys are honest, and the best part is you don’t have to deal with some smug hipster dufus with cutoff dress pant, horn rim glasses, and ironic beard that will treat you like an idiot when you don’t know what the’yre talking about. support your local bike shop!

I had driven an hour with a friend from San Francisco to bike at Rockville Hills Park. We were unloading our bikes, when I realized I was missing the thru axle on my front fork (making the bike unrideable). I visited two other bike shops in Fairfield and they didn’t have thru axles, so Ray’s Cycle was my last hope. When I went in, Phil asked me if I needed help and I told him my plight. He immediately knew I needed a QR15 thru axle when I told him I had a Fox fork. While he did not have one in stock, he said he could run home to grab the axle off his OWN bike and let me borrow it for the afternoon. I offered to pay him to rent it, but he refused. And just like that, I had a great afternoon biking at Rockville Park. Obviously, after our ride, I returned the axle to Phil and he entertained us with stories of local riders who tear through the Rockville trails for Strava KOMs. Phil is clearly a knowledgeable mountain biking enthusiast and an incredibly nice guy who wants to help others enjoy the sport. The shop had a much wider selection of bikes and accessories than the other two shops I stopped by in the area, and frankly, Phil is the type of honest and helpful person I look to do business with. I definitely plan to come back. Thanks!

Ray’s Cycle is the Best! Knowledgeable staff and great prices. We have been shopping there for years. They have always been there to help me out. From the bicycle for my small children to the Specialized that my husband rides. Phil is awesome and never forgets a face. I highly recommend you check them out for your bicycling needs. We are talking 15 years of my experience dealing with them and none other meets my high standards. I think I am on Bike #5.

I didn’t buy my bike there so I’m not sure if that had something to do with it.
I didn’t pay for the repairs
I would be careful about leaving my bike here.
This store is a good example of why bike shops are losing ground to online stores.

I have been doing business there since it opened and I have zero complaints. Phil is the best.

Recently, during a randonneur ride which passed Fairfield I had some serious issues with my tire and dropped in at Ray’s for a quick fix. In a few minutes the team of guys there had my bike up and running — new tire, tightened up the spokes and got things sorted. They were really courteous and helpful. It was an unexpected and fantastic level of customer service and the shop had all kinds of excellent, top-​notch gear. I was in a huge hurry to get back on the road, and they helped a ton. If Fairfield was a bit closer to home, I’d be delighted to make this my regular shop.

Ray’s is a nice little shop downtown. The two Bob’s are friendly and the one with the glasses is very knowledgeable. I was hoping to find a great hybrid here, but sadly they only had one that was about $ 600, way out of my price range, although beautiful! They have a pretty decent sized selection and they even brought a bike from the Vacaville store for me to try just to get my sizing right. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to buy a bike from here but if you have a little more money to spend I’m sure you would have no problem finding what you need.
They sell Specialized and Trek and they have a great deal of accessories for your bike! Good people and good service :)

I bought a Specialized Hardrock & some accessories at Ray’s recently.
I regret purchasing my bike there when I had so many other options of great bike shops to choose from.
The reason I feel this way is because every time I go into the place the customer service is lacking.
Oddly enough I see other people getting treated well when I’m in the shop, maybe I didn’t spend enough, maybe my hard earned $ 500 wasn’t enough to earn better customer service from Ray’s staff.
I will never spend another dime in that shop, I feel that strongly about how I was treated there.

I sent my favorite aunt into Ray’s because she had recently acquired a used Townie and I thought it was a good idea if she got a tune up. Note, I don’t live in the area, and I found Ray’s through Unilocal.I expected them to charge her $ 40+ and make sure the bike was in safe/​rideable condition, and toss a little lube on the chain and pretty much not work too hard. But, I’d feel better knowing it was all good. Instead, the guy was awesome, checked out the bike, fixed the loose screws on her bell and explained to my uncle how to repair the fender screw that was missing, and didn’t charge her a dime! Go Ray’s for being honest and upfront — the tech said the bike looked great — didn’t need a thing! I know Ray’s has earned a customer or two through this experience. My aunt was impressed and so was I!

Hey, I can’t say anything bad about this LBS. They say every cyclist should have a home bike shop, sorta like Norm @ Cheers. Well Ray’s Cycle is my comfort spot. I’ve been a long time customer with Ray’s, since the late 90’s. Phil is always runnin around busy, but always seems to have the time to talk about bikes. He & the Posey brother’s seem to have a good handle on bicycle service. They have a good stock of consumables, tubes, tires & such. I went in last week for the newest set of SWorks Captain tyres & they had a pair for me.
They’re a Trek, Specialized, Fisher & Redline dealer. They may not have everything in all of those lines for you to test, but they have a pretty big fleet of bikes to test. For those looking on the high end side they were able to quickly get me an SWorks Epic back in 2007, then a Titus Fireline 29r frame last year.
They also have a selection of flat bar road bikes & comfort bikes, as well. I brought my sister in to by a comfort bike for her husband; they took care of her & she road out with a new bike for around $ 350ish. Those who ask me about bikes, I refer to Ray’s as a good place to start.
Ray’s also has a good stock of new old stock stuff for that project that needs something no longer produced. When there’s something old that I need, I always check Ray’s first.
Besides, supporting the LBS is very important. If they don’t have something in the Fairfield store, they frequently call the Vacaville store to see if they have it up there. Many times, Phil has brought stuff down from Vacaville for me.
Good customer service is why I’ll always go back. I just wish they had a Superfly 100 to test or should I say tempt… You’ve got Chris, Mike, Dave & Phil that work there for ya… Tell ‘em Dan with the Titus sent you in…
