Specialties
We are a full-service renewable energy company offering design, installation and service in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. We specialize in solar electric (photovoltaic), solar hot water (solar thermal), and radiant floor (hydronic) heating systems. We do both rooftop and ground-mounted solar panel arrays that are either directly connected to the electric grid (grid-tied), autonomous from the electric grid using batteries for storage (off-grid), or a combination of the two. Our office and shop is located just outside of Asheville in Fairview, NC.
History
Established in 2010.
Co-owners and cousins Phelps Clarke and Douglas Ager grew up at Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Fairview, NC. When they were younger, they spent a lot of time exploring the creeks and forests of their great-grandparents land and worked on the farm as part of the 4th generation raised there.
Growing up steeped in the beauty of the landscape gave them a sense of its fragility and led them on a sustained search to find healthier ways to interact with the land with the hope of creating a more sustainable future. Because of the support the community gave to their relative’s businesses, Douglas and Phelps saw a real future in trying to use the tools of business to change the energy and business paradigms. They are following in the footsteps of other family members who started sustainable agriculture businesses Hickory Nut Gap Meats and Flying Cloud Farm.

I am a WNC native with strong family ties to the area. I have a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Bowdoin College and hold an H-1 hydronic heating license for North Carolina. I worked at Sundance Power Systems for 5 years after graduating from college. During that time, I went from being the helper hired to start a second crew to the lead systems designer. I have broad experience designing and installing multiple types of systems, including solar hot water, solar-electric, solar-electric with battery back-up, radiant floor heating, and micro-hydro.
