Huong Binh Bakery & Deli

What a great place and wonderful people. The owners, the couple, have huge smiles on their face. High quality food (take out). Love this place, it is super clean, friendly and reasonable price.

Huong Binh bakery is one of the oldest delis in Eden center.
Not much has changed since coming here as a small girl, which is something I can appreciate, but at the same time, it is possibly what is holding them back. With all these new bakeries and delis opening around them, they need to instill some sort of change to compete. I had their banh mi sandwich which tasted like your classic banh mi. It was only good once I warmed it up in the microwave. Their 50 cent egg rolls are now 60 cents, but nothing special. The coffee bubble tea was nice and strong, but the flavor and bubbles tasted a bit off. You can honestly get a better sandwich next door at the new deli or a better bubble tea around the corner. This is what I mean when I say they should keep up with the times.
They are much cheaper than the newer spots and that’s the only real positive. My rating would of definitely been higher if this was 10 years ago.

Their eggrolls are cheaper than the tofu store a few doors down from them at 66cents per eggroll. They are yummy!
Their sugar cane drink is straight from a sugar cane pieces and then it gets pushed through the machine that squeezes the sugar cane into a plastic drink and they mix it with I think pineapple juice. It’s sweet and refreshing.

Let me first start off by saying WOW! Their selection of Vietnamese treats and edibles were quite delectable!
My parents wanted me to pick up for them a couple items, but in the end I ended up with over $ 80 worth of food! They were excited with all of the Vietnamese finger food, treats, and snacks that was offered here and that couldn’t be found in NYC. Like little kids in a candy store, my parents wanted me to pick up one or two of each items that I mentioned to them over the phone.
Everything and anything that piqued their interests, they wanted!
If you’re happened to be in the area, stop by this bakery and try out a thing or two. Trust me… You won’t be disappointed and your taste buds will thanks you!!!

Delicious bakery & very friendly staff. I had the taro boba, a couple of doughy sesame balls, and Banh Xu Xe (balls of flour, mung bean, coconut, and sugar). All were delicious, and very affordable at just over $ 6 for everything. I spoke with a service member who taught me a couple of Vietnamese words. I hope to come back soon and highly recommend it.

I stop by here anytime I’m in Eden to get 20 – 30 pieces egg roll take out. The egg rolls are fresh, crispy, and priced just right. The other prepared food are yummy too, my faves include banh bot loc (tapioca dumplings w shrimp) and the various che (desserts). The yogurt is especially authentic and reminds me of Vietnam. I think the minimum credit card charge is $ 10 (or was it $ 15?), so just remember to have cash if your purchase is small.

If you’re low on funds, yeah its better to eat here than Mcdonalds. Customer service sucks & the grumpy old lady behind the counter has a nasty attitude. I won’t be back. Been coming here for over 15 years & they just lost a loyal customer.

This is one of my family’s favorite places in Eden Center. We come for the $ 0.50 egg rolls because while greasy, they are good. (To the person who complained about the amount of filling, it’s $ 0.50!) The vermicelli and meat filling is fresh and soft while the egg roll wrapper is crunchy.
The highlight of this place is the Bánh cuon. At $ 4.50 a package, it’s a fantastic deal for the freshly made rice noodle, lightly filled with seasoned ground pork, minced wood ear mushroom, and minced shallots and comes with a dipping sauce called nuoc cham. It’s a fish sauce that is an acquired taste that tends to attract comments but since I grew up with it, I don’t notice it and think it highlights the dish. However this time, I chose to forgo the sauce and enjoyed the noodles without.
They also sell $ 2.50 banh mi sandwiches. I prefer another bakery’s sandwiches because I like their bread better but after eating the other bakery’s sandwich, I might have made a mistake, especially since I saw Huong Binh had bags of fresh bread.

I’ve only experienced one rude and shady place while visiting Eden Center until now. I never write reviews, but I just can’t believe the service I got here today. I needed to write in.
I found a couple wrapped items and put them on the counter. The short old man working was on my side of the counter and rudely pushed through my friend to pat the items I was buying, talking and laughing about them with the coworker lady on the other side. I’m wondering why he’s touching them while making nasty faces. He then walked to the other side and rung my order up. He still kept talking to the coworker, both looking at me and the items and laughing. There weren’t any other customers besides us, so I guess he thought it would be okay. Funny, I just happened to see an episode of Seinfeld with a similar story. And looking further into reviews of this place, seems I’m not the only one who’s experienced the unpleasant old man.
GO ELSEWHERE! There are other places in the center with BETTER tasting food, GREETS you, THANKS you and doesn’t make you feel AWKWARD… a place that appreciates YOUR BUSINESS.

One of my favorites stores in the Eden Center! I love their Vietnamese salad for $ 6 or a large platter for $ 12. They have a variety of platters great for a party dish to bring for only $ 12 also. I picked up 2 for a pot luck and everyone enjoyed the shrimp summer rolls, salad, and sesame balls. The banana leaf wrappers in the styrofoam containers was a bit too fishy for the inexperienced eater. Everything else was a big hit!

I ordered the Banh Mi Bi sandwich. Roll was good, fresh. The filling of the sandwich (meat and veg) was tasty, just not enough of it whatsoever. I had several bites of just bread, just bread and veg, or just bread and meat; I prefer to taste all in one bite. I think if they offered double the filling, the sandwich would be close to perfect.
Egg rolls delicious, yet greasy and affordable at 50 cents each; however, just like my sandwich, not enough filling in them. Ends have no filling with your first and/​or last bites… another easy fix, just fill them more.
Overall, decent experience. Parking is an issue also as Eden Center has many businesses in it, I would avoid it on weekends for sure.

Here’s what I like about HBB — it’s pretty much buying Vietnamese food at wholesale prices. Banh mi sandwiches for $ 2.50. Skewers for $ 1.35. Egg Rolls for $ 0.50. Why, if it wasn’t for things like health codes and food licenses, I’d be tempted to purchases trays at HBB and flip for retail prices in DC.
Personally, I liked the meatball skewers over the beef or pork variations. The combination banh mi was simple and on par with everything else in Eden Center. The egg rolls were crispy despite being behind a glass case.
The portions are relatively generous. The food is appetizing. The price is lucrative. HBB shows promise and I’ll have to revisit to see if it’s consistent the second time around.
3 Stars — Definitely A-​OK. Definitely worth a visit if Rice Paper is packed (when is it not?).

It may not be the biggest or the showiest bakery/​deli in Eden Center, but we do enjoy coming here on a regular basis to buy a ridiculous amount of desserts, spring rolls and other Vietnamese goodies.
I personally like their spring rolls a lot. It’s always very tasty and rather good even when I bring it back up to NY and reheat it. We also really like their mung bean desserts and buy a bunch of those before heading back up to the city.
The folks here are friendly and I also found that their prices are slightly cheaper than their bigger counterparts in Eden Center.

This is my go-​to place for egg rolls, at $ 0.50 it’s the cheapest, while not the best, in Eden Center. It curbs that egg roll craving and you just can’t beat the price. They also have pre-​packaged summer rolls for $ 2. They are fresh and also cheapest than other stores in Eden Center. I also like Huong Binh for their catering options for large trays of egg rolls, summer rolls, goi tom (a pickled shrimp salad). The staff here speaks minimal English so if you want someone’s attention and you can’t speak Vietnamese you are going to have to wave your hand and point.

This was the only place open at 8am… So, we came here. It was only $ 2.50 the for banh mi we choose. We also got summer rolls 2/​$ 2.00, which is cheaper than most places. The spring rolls were awful. The banh mi was just okay. The thai tea was AWFUL STEER CLEAR.

This is my favorite place to get banh mi. They get the meat to bread ratio just right — not too much of either and it’s cheap too — I think something like $ 2.75. The bread is soft on the inside with a good crunch on the outside.
Tip: $ 10 minimum for credit card but buy a few sandwiches, ask for veggies on the side and you’ve got lunch for a few days.

I always in here for either the sesame balls or spring rolls. Sesame balls are 3 for $ 1, so you can’t beat that. If you can catch them hot, even better. Thin spring rolls are crisp, tasty, and well-​filled. I love the staff here — quite friendly and funny.

In the mood for some quick on-​the-​go food and don’t want to compromise quality? Go to Huong Binh! Their grilled chicken skewers and eggrolls are the best here at a reasonably low price too. Each eggroll is only 50c each with the right amount of crispiness and juice… be careful though — these can get very very addicting!

Why only ⁴⁄₅ stars? The owners are nice people (especially the nice skinny elderly man) but they have their moody days at times. Sometimes they mess up on my change but other than these minor details, their chicken skewers and egg rolls is delicious regardless.
Oh one plus — they take credit card! Now that’s kind of rare in Eden huh?

They tout themselves a «one stop shop» for all things Vietnamese, and they really are a wonderful resource for everything from egg rolls to traditional Vietnamese wedding accessories. Huong Binh has been around for about as long as I have, which is saying a lot since some Vietnamese-​American-​owned businesses disappear into oblivion and are so promptly replaced that you’ll forget they ever existed. Keeping a business alive is hard, and it’s even harder when your number one customers are a bunch of persnickety and opinionated Vietnamese elders and their children/​grandchildren.
Huong Binh, like the other famous Huong, Huong Viet, survived thanks to reliable and good service, competitive prices, and a willingness to reach out not only to the Vietnamese community but to Vietnamese culture enthusiasts and food lovers who know to venture to Eden.
My great experience with Huong Binh and the reason I’m writing this review is because I recently had to take my fiancé here to reserve items for our traditional engagement ceremony. Being both American-​born, we have still have much learning to do in regards to the traditions and especially for things like this, so we needed a lot guidance. Thankfully, the owner is super helpful and honest.
I had a checklist of engagement must-​haves, but it was a lot easier to place orders with him providing advice. He told us if an order would be more than enough or even too much. He suggested the best time to pick up certain foods, for optimum freshness. He reiterated when certain items would be available so that we could plan. Seriously, he could have milked it and been like, «Yes, yes, twenty little cakes.» But instead he told us, «Twenty is too many. I think ten is enough for you.» Obviously people wouldn’t be business owners if they didn’t want to make a profit, but the good and noble ones know where to stop. And for some, greed is a bottomless pit. Huong BInh’s proprietor is the former.
To top it all off, they have a nice website that includes menus for all for their catering items and pricing. That’s wonderful. While prices are «always subject to change,» you won’t be too shocked once you arrive because it can’t deviate that much from what was posted on the site. In either case, catering at Huong BInh is very affordable.
One-​stop shop is a pretty good description. Might I add very professional one-​stop shop?

Meat pies looked nicely flaky. I snagged a banh it nhan dau for dessert later but ended up regretting it. The leaves unwrapped with powerful whiffs of an intoxicating tea fragrance and the glutinous rice flour created a nice shell, but the filling ended up being drier than I expected. The mung bean was barely sweetened! I probably should’ve opted for a savory banh la.
Banh mis were so cheap at $ 2 after paying premium prices a few doors down! $ 10 minimum for credit card charges. But it turns out you get what you pay for. The M4 combination banh mi was awfully sweet, and came with a small whole green chili pepper that didn’t quite balance it out. Nicely crunchy baguette crust from the toasting request, though the bread didn’t hold up to vigorous bites. That and the plentiful cilantro just didn’t quite make up for the awesome flavors we’re used to.
