I wish I could rate this place zero stars. I have been to this store about three times in the past year and I have been disappointed each time. This store always seems to be understaffed resulting in long lines and no one available to help customers. During my most recent trip I called ahead to see if they had a specific oil-​based food coloring for baking. The manager said they had one in stock and would hold it at the front counter for me. Thirty minutes later I arrived at the store and waited in line for 10+ minutes to retrieve my item from the counter. I was then told my item was being held at the fabric cutting counter. I went to the back of the store to again retrieve my item. I then took my item to the front of the store to purchase it where I again waited in line for 10+ minutes to check out. The check out person did apologize for the long line, which I appreciated. However, when I got home to open the box of food coloring I found only 3 colors were in the box. The set was suppose to have 4 colors (it was missing the crucial color blue needed to make new colors). I will return to this store only one time —to return this item.

This store is horrible, if I could give zero I will, I had the worse experience ever.
the staff is verrrrrrrryyyy rude, yesterday i was waiting on line for 20 min, to pay for two buttons, holding my 2 years son who was sleeping, my back was killing me, arriving at the ugly cashier (young man with thousands of pimples on his face, like he has a red face), he did not say anything to me, just scan the item, I found than my purse is in my car, I told him, i will go bring my money and I will back, he told me, yes than you have to do the line AGAIN, i told him i was waiting for 20 min, my son is sleeping and it is just 2 buttons, it was not like i have thousands of items to scan, he did not care at all, he was giving me that ugly face of wherever!!! Definitely i will NEVER EVER go back to that store, or any Jo Ann fabrics stores, I will rather go somewhere else where they greet people and treat people nicely!
Worse Experience ever

Every time I come here the wait is atrocious. Only one employee at the cutting table despite long lines and staff walking around. Cashier lines are always horrific also. I don’t know if the store is understaffed or the ones here are not good with time management or both. I have thrown my stuff down and left on several occasions taking my business elsewhere.

The customer service at this store is the absolute worst, the most helpful and friendly person I dealt with this evening was the cashier on my way out. The lady at the cutting table literally held her hand up at me and said she didnt want to cut my order because I had too many and she wanted to go on break. However she announced she would help one more person with one bolt. I am in utter shock how rude the staff is. This is not the first time I’ve had horrible service, in fact I dont think I have had a single positive experience in the years ive been in the area.

Horrible experience!!! If I could give them ZERO I’ll definitely do it. Staff are extremely rude and they make mistakes at the cash register. The cashier charged me twice for an item, when I told him about the mistake he gave me an attitude like if it was my fault. I would never ever go back to this incompetent dirty place.

This store is horrible. Twice now when trying to get fabric cut I got a number and waited only to find out they were not using numbers that day and I was supposed to wait in line. I am tired of guessing if it is a get a number day or wait in line day and refuse to go to this poor excuse of a store again.

I bought a fabric and it was on clearance. I told the lady that I need to go home and measure it first then she said I can return it anytime, so I bought it.
came back to store to return it and they refused to do that. the store manager said that is the policy and it doesn’t matter that their employee made the mistake.
I even called their customer service and they didn’t do anything helpful

This is the worst Jo-Ann’s I have ever been to. The staff is rude, it is understocked, everything in disarray, dirty, etc. This place might be fine for the average person looking for some random craft product, but for anyone who actually sews, move along.
This weekend marks my last visit to this store. I was looking for iron-​on transfers and paper for a baby shower. As usual, there was no staff to be found, but then out walks a woman from the back. As she opens the doors, she looks straight at me as I start walking towards her and say, «Excuse me.» Instead of acknowledging the customer standing in front of her, she more or less ran away from me. I chased her down, and eventually she turned around to help me. When I not only told her, but SHOWED her what I needed, she was clueless and referred me to the appliqué section. I showed her again, and she said she had never seen anything like that before — I was showing her a picture from the Jo-Ann’s website. Needless to say, I left the store without the items I needed.
If you are serious about sewing, my suggestion is to go go to the other side of the shopping center to G Street Fabrics. No, they didn’t have what I needed either, but I didn’t expect them to. G Street has its issues too, but at least it is clean, well-​stocked and has competent staff. Don’t waste your time with this place.

I recently purchased my own sewing machine and have been trying to get back into sewing things which requires fabric. This being the closest Joann’s to my house, I figured I would give it a try.
The positives: this is fabric paradise. Literally, there are so many different options here that if I could buy buy them all I would. The 3 stars is essentially entirely for their fabric selection.
The negatives: we went in on a weekday evening and there were 2 people working the entire store, one on the fabric station (although it took awhile to find her) and one on the register who didn’t seem to be all that knowledgeable on how to do much of anything other than a basic purchase (the woman in front of us was doing a 1-​to-​1 exchange due to a non working item and it took nearly 10 minutes). The single woman working the fabric station was overwhelmed between cutting fabric for everyone and answering customer questions on where to find items simultaneously. I understand that it was a weekday, not a weekend but you really should have more than 2 employees working an entire store. I also felt that their base fabric prices were really high, I found similar or identical fabrics at Walmart for ¹⁄₃ or ½ the price per yard. When I was there, nearly all fabrics were 40% off which made up for it but with no discount that’s a huge difference.
Overall, I would go back again for fabrics simply because there isn’t really a better alternative in the area if I want a good selection but if a better option were to open up, I would have no qualms not returning to the Joann’s.

Please clean this place up and update. The store always looks dirty and dingy. Presentation matters! They do have reasonably priced fabrics and notit ions if you use the coupons, but sometimes I go elsewhere because it looks so unkempt.

Jo-Ann’s retail stores carry a wide array of fabrics, sewing notions, general crafting supplies, sewing patterns (Butterick, Simplicity, Vogue, and McCall’s), seasonal decorative items, and storage containers. The Falls Church shop is no exception.
Sad to say, it gets this reviewer’s two-​star rating.
This specific store doesn’t have enough floor space to display its stock of piece goods, creating a junked-​up feel. The fabric aisles are narrow making it impossible for a shopper to navigate a small shopping cart.
The pattern table and file cabinets are placed near the middle of the sales floor where most of the foot traffic is heading for the cutting table. Customers fetching patterns have to look before they leap.
Buying sales items is tricky. Even with a coupon in hand, a customer has to pay close attention to all of posted signs noting what is, and what ain’t, on sale. It pays to have a calculator in hand, for figuring percentage reductions per yard, before heading to the cutting table with a bolt of fabric. Sewing patterns, when not on sale, are not cheap. So, before looking at a pattern catalog, it is good to know what brand of patterns are on sale.
On holidays and weekends, long lines of ladies with more than a few bolts of fabric in their shopping carts, form at the cutting table. So come to the store with lots of patience if you plan on buying fabric.
Moms might want to think about leaving the kids at home before heading out to this Jo-Ann’s. Junk food, novelty items, puzzle books, and small toys are strategically placed near the check-​out aisle to attract kids.

If I could give this place no star– I would. I really debated going here or driving the opposite direction to Woodbridge. I totally should have gone with the latter. I have worked retail and thank goodness these 3 employee’s working this evening didn’t have me as their manager. There would be a complete overhaul on those working that evening. By the way the store was not busy when my husband and I went in around 7pm on 01/​02/​2015.
1. The store looked like a tornado hit it. Not at all clean and no excuse for the presentation lacking.
2. I went up to the guy working in the area where one would cut fabric and I asked as to where in the fabrics do they place the PUL. The guy was CLUELESS! He asked what was PUL fabric, which I explained. Yet he had still never heard of it. I told him what it was and proceeded to ask WHY I needed it. He advised me that he does not think the company carriers such item. OMG Really… who hired him to work in a fabric store? I told him I was making baby training underpants and PUL fabric is used for outer lining. I even pulled up the website, JoAnn’s, to show him that the company does carry it and he should know his fabrics.
3. I called the the Jo-​Ann store in woodbridge, while standing near him, and asked if they know what PUL is as the employee and his counterpart helping him did not know, Surprise, surprise the ladies at the Woodbridge store knew exactly what I was talking about. The only guy working Falls Church store did not. I left very annoyed.
The 3 working this evening truly need better training because I ended up driving all the way to woodbridge to buy PUL and all the other supplies I needed rather than give the business to the Falls Church store. This place sucks all around while Jo-Ann’s store and it’s an employee are much better trained, friendlier and the store in woodbridge was much more organized and clean.

Love coming here for many different things. I recently redesigned my entire room and house and decided (being the crafty man that I am) to make my own custom made curtains. The curtain fabric that I picked was nice and thick with a layer of soft chiffon underneath. When you are ready to have your fabric cut, don’t forget to grab a ticket so that you don’t waste your time standing around in «line» for nothing. I decided to make my own custom made blanket and comforter. I wanted to customize because:
1. Way cheaper than spending $ 70 on the name brand curtains I originally wanted to buy.
2. I have the talent (and time) to make these things.
Overall, Jo-Ann’s is an amazing place to visit when you want to be crafty. It’s also super affordable. You get a lot of bang for your buck. And I still have some fabric left over. I may make a shirt!

Has what you need but there’s always a line! And I never understand why there’s only one person working the registers. On the plus side, I’ve never experience poor customer service.

I came in to do an exchange for a ball of yarn I had earlier purchased a while ago. First of all, the yarn section was totally disorganized. There were balls of yarn from different brands all over the place. It took me at least 10 minutes to find what I needed. When I get to checkout after another 10 long minutes of waiting, the cashier says I can’t do an exchange without a receipt. Yet it clearly states on the website that you can absolutely do an exchange without receipt. Who even keeps their receipts after three months? I will definitely not be coming back to this place ever again.

They treat like you like a criminal to do a return WITH THE RECEIPT. They smell the fabric, ask you if you’d washed it, dried it, made us wait in THREE different lines just to re-​measure fabric, ask you if you’ve cut it all this for $ 5 of fabric. CRAZINESS. I didn’t do a THING to the fabric it wasn’t even taken out of the bag, I decided not to do the project. Won’t be shopping there at all.

Okay, my Unilocalers; I know this is not a foodie review as I always do but I have to shoutout customer service at my beloved Joann’s as well as review a few items that I posted.
Okay, I visited on Labor Day Weekend. Who really wants to work on a holiday? The ladies were sweet, had great patience and were educated on fabrics and needs of my project. I do not know what it is about the people of the DMV but their patience and lack of compassion is horrific. Wait your freakin’ turn, be mindful of others and older people should be respected not pushed out of the way because your in a hurry. I have been noted to have the patience as a saint and am slow to anger. I admit this is true until I see someone just being out right RUDE to another person who is helpless to defend his or herself (ie children/​elderly). Ok off the soapbox.
Please people be patient and understand you get more with sugar than salt! Oh and always remember to say thank you after being helped. On to my review of products:
I love love love my Singer One. I am a self-​taught and
watcher seamstress. I have made several projects on my Singer One and should I get stuck I am always able to go to the Singer website and troubleshoot. Thank you JoAnn for selling quality products, staffing educated people in your brick and mortar stores and hosting awesome sales and coupons. As a native of Oklahoma City, OK and die heart Hobby Lobby lover, I must admit that I venture over and visit you more than I should (smile). Crafting, sewing and baking in Washington, DC for family & friends.

This is hands down, the worst joanns I have ever been to. The staff is rude and not educated on their stock. They are no sewers, so they have no idea how to help. They are also typically understaffed. The stock is usually low.

If you were to draw a Venn diagram showing fabrics that respectable humans would wear in one circle and fabrics that are carried by Jo-​Ann Fabrics in the other, the circles would not overlap. This location is no exception. Expect massive lines, slow paced service, and a selections of materials that range from «WTF is this?!» through «Too campy to be worn on Duck Dynasty.»
It’s not even a good place for halloween costume supplies. Really, this store is the worst.

I only go to Jo-Ann’s when:
1. I can’t find what I’m looking for at G Street Fabrics (located on the other side of the shopping center)
2. I find a 20% in-​store coupon from their ads online
A plus is that there are always sales on fabric, (buy 2 yards and get 1 yard free type of deals) but since this store is seriously understaffed, there’s always a long line at the cutting line and at the register. They don’t nearly have as much selection as G Street does in terms in fabric, but if you’re looking for your basic cottons, denim, rayon, knits, fleece, and other common fabrics, you should be able to find it here.
I dislike how they moved all of their seasonal items (Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc.) to the front, so whenever I walk in the store, I get punched in the face with the smell of the season. For example, during Christmas, all I smelled was a mix of cinnamon and pine trees… and during Halloween, the store reeked of candy corn.
The store is also unorganized for the most part, but the good thing is that there are often coupons that you can find online that are applicable on sale items and promotions so you can always get a deal here.
