Yup, it’s a hospital cafeteria alright. It has a lot of options that are kinda ridiculously expensive but high quality for hospital food. I rather enjoyed the deli sandwiches but the calzones and chicken fingers were hard to pass up after sitting with a patient for hours on end.

If you have absolutely no choice then I think this is the place to get greasy fries and burgers. Wilted salad and god knows what’s in the chili.

I’ve visited this cafeteria a couple of times over the years. Most recently today. It’s tucked down in the basement of Inova Fairfax Hospital. Follow the green coded signs to the elevator that takes you down into the uttermost depths of the hospital… Lots of food options: hot and cold sandwiches, pizza, soups, salads, hot entrees, burger, fries, onion rings, beverages of all sorts… Their Chicken Gumbo is pretty tasty! Here is the web site URL for the Cafeteria: Skylight is open 24 hours a day. Only thing I will ding them on is I could not find any AC outlets to plug my laptop into. I did not conduct an exhaustive search, but a cursory glance around yielded none…

Here’s a cafeteria you’d rather not visit. Of course, nobody in their right mind dines at hospital cafeteria; but if you must refuel after 6+ hours of exhaustive waiting, then feel better knowing that there’s somewhere to eat on this medical campus. Prices are rather reasonable($ 8.00/lb for the salad bar and $ 0.50/lb if you were an employee). A 12 oz. chili is just $ 2.79. Sure, the food instead the best in the world but neither is it the worst. Overall, it’s A-OK. [Original Visit: November 16, 2010]
