I ran this 5K over a year ago, but continue to run this stretch periodically because it is a nice course, and its JUST long enough for me. It is fairly flat, and doesn’t offer a whole lot of variation, but is good for leisure runners. The trail is always tidy and well kept. It is also very well lit, so it is safer for dusky or early AM runs. There are a large amount of bikers on this particular stretch, so if running around bikes isn’t your thing this would annoy you.

This is a nice, local 5K run by the Friends of the W&OD Trail. Even though it’s a low-key race, it’s got a lot of the perks of larger races: chip timing, tech t-shirts, good food at the finish. This year(2011) it seemed like there were around 300 runners and they had prizes for the top finishers in each age category. Falls Church police blocked the intersections where the trail crosses a few local roads, so there were no problems there. My only(minor) complaint is that the trail is pretty narrow, so the first ½ mile or so was pretty congested before the field spread out. All-in-all, a very good race.
