Sullivan Tire & Auto Service

Yesterday I had to have AAA jump start my battery, and the guy who came out recommended that I take it to a service station for a «deep charge» so I took it to Sullivan. Sure enough, Sullivan called to say that the battery wouldn’t take a charge and needed to be replaced (for $ 170). I chose not to do this and when I picked up the car, the guy at the desk told me again that the battery was no good — and that he had had to jump start the car. I then took it to another car repair place and asked them to test the battery. They gave me a printout of the test results — the battery was good! Never going to Sullivan Tire again!

When I lived in the Bangor are we always brought our vehicles to the Haley’s tire right outside of Best Buy and were always taken care of to the fullest extent and it seemed like a family type of environment that never tried to rake you over the coals when it came to auto repair (because we all know how sometimes it is tough).
Then Sullivan Tire bought them out and took over and it all went down hill from there. We moved to Falmouth, ME about 2 years ago and when we first got here it was still a Haleys and the second that they switched over, it was a different feel.
Today, I went in to get a simple thing done to see what it would cost to replace a mecahnism, change my oil and rotate my tires and I had to go back in 5 hours later to see that they had my entire vehicle pulled apart and they were showing me the rust in my oil pan, transmission pan, chassis and front axle … then they showed me the wear and tear in my wheel rims and the wearing on my tires … they also said I needed a new battery and plugs … also wipers and about 10 – 15 other things.
I was dumfounded … I stated that I just got the car inspected less than a year ago and they did not find any of these issues so, in 8 months these problems came up? When I told them I could not afford the $ 2,800 dollar expense that they were looking at charging me, I told them no thanks I will go elsewhere.
The young guy doing the work was nice enough to call me to walk me through his work but I will be taking my services elsewhere.
All I wanted was a oil change, tire rotation and my window fixed. Wow.

I used to swear by this place when it was under its old management. Now, not so much. It’s become a lot more commercial and less personal. They do fine work here but it can be hit or miss about how long you wait. They lost my paperwork so they didn’t even start until I had waited for 90 minutes. Then it took then another two hours to do an oil change and inspection. Not impressed.
