OMG and I don’t mean in a good way… this place needs a saving and i mean a saving ASAP. it’s re-named to Railroad Chinese Food or something hideous like that. i mean who the hell names their restaurant with the word«railroad» lol it was just terrible. inside needed a desperate make over and i was even nervous to order because i knew it was going to be shitty. I had the basic beef and broccoli and disgusting really. i think i had 6 bites and i just quit that shit. shudder. even my sweet, kind mother-in-law who really tries to find the best in everything was like this is awful. she got the chicken and mushroom dish. this place used to be decent years ago and I now they sold it to some Korean couple/family or something and it’s just nasty. They need to really wake up to reality…

It’s a sad day in FB… Ancient China is no more! I have been frequenting this place for years as I work right down the street. Owners were very nice and funny. The food was always good and reasonably priced considering the portions. I concur with the other posters that the new owners«Railroad China» is no comparison to Ancient China. Figured I’d give them a shot and I was very disappointed. The food is nowhere near as good and its way more expensive(not to mention the service is non existent). Got the combination fried rice and IMO basically paid $ 9(no egg roll included mind you) for what turned out to be a bunch of rice with a few tiny pieces of beef, chicken and shrimp. Wish the owners of Ancient China a happy retirement but will be scratching Railroad China off my list for future lunches.

Awww… So sad about this place. It was actually really good before the old owners retired. I came in today for lunch, not knowing about the change. I can live with having to order at the counter, having to pick up my own food when they call out that it’s ready… Even the plastic trays and forks that make this place more like a cafeteria now. But they completely lost me with the change to the menu. The food is just not good anymore. Such a disappointment from what it used to be. The food now is literally frozen chicken nuggets that they’ve cut in half and cooked in whatever sauce you choose(orange chicken, sesame chicken, etc.) I’ll be looking for a new Chinese restaurant now… I won’t be back here.

You’ve been warned! Ancient China is under new ownership as of yesterday. The Railroad China folks moved down the street and took over the place and the old owners retired according to the new owner. The food is ok. I like the egg rolls. My chicken lo mein had some chicken, about 4 pieces of broccoli, some carrots. It also had something very undesirable in it which makes me never want to go back. I’m not too picky, I moved it aside and finished my meal. Gone are the friendly former owners, the broader menu, the complimentary soup, fried wontons, and egg roll with lunch, and the table service. Two lunches(entrée, egg roll, ice tea) came to over $ 23. If you want take out counter service(«Broccoli Rice plate is ready!!»), plastic forks, ice tea with no discernible flavor, condiments in those little plastic ketchup containers then this is your place. I wish the former owners happy trails and best wished on their retirement. Thank you for the wonderful restaurant you gave us.

This place is quick, cheap and has OK food. Went here because my work is 5 minutes away Pros: My takeout was ready in under 10 minutes Offer lunch specials on Saturday(Mon-Sat) Get egg roll with lunch special(pre-made/frozen) Lady was really nice Cons: Found a foreign object in my rice, nothing too concerning as I continued to eat Left out my order of Miso Soup Orange chicken tasted like cheap, elementary school chicken nuggets and orange peels were burned adding a gross taste to the lightly flavored sauce Tacky décor —(classic fast-food chinese place, almost a pro)

I might be biased as I grew up going to this restaurant but I love it. They have the best egg rolls around! The food is deliciously consistent and the family that owns the restaurant is very friendly. If you go enough, they’ll remember your name and your order! I’d highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Farmers Branch(Dallas) area. Also a great place to get delivered! :)

I have been going to Ancient China for 6 years. The food is wonderful and the price is very cheap. The owners are a married couple that couldn’t be nicer. She always teases and jokes with us when we go in. The egg rolls are my favorite out of any Chinese resturant I have ever been to. Ten stars!

The Kung Pao chicken is my favorite, consistently awesome every time. The couple that owns the place is always super friendly and quite comedic. I can always rely on speedy service on my lunch break.

The food is really good here. It is a family owned business that has been here a long time. Really good lunch specials. Select for tons of choices with rice of choice. Soup and eggroll included. The owners remember you here and are really nice nice people. Introduce yourself to some good food and some really nice people. I go every week for lunch here; sometimes twice.

Great service, but sadly bland food. If this is what passes for three and a half stars in this area, I would hate to see the 1 star place.

First thing I noticed is their name is appropriate, it’s ancient-looking. That’s not a good thing. A lot of people I know would have turned and left when they saw the sagging ceiling tiles and wallpaper peeling off the walls. I didn’t even let the slight sewer odor stop me. Who knows, maybe someone had a knarly issue in the bathroom? I give these hole-in-the-wall places a little latitude. This is one time it did not pay off. Food was below average and median priced. The owner lady was yelling the same thing in her asian-accented spanish at this waitress over and over the entire time I was there. I will not be going back.

Not a bad little Chinese restaurant. They stick to the classic Americanized Chinese fair(think sweet and sour, lemon chicken, orange chicken). Staying in to eat your lunch will get you a bowl of soup. Ordering the same meal to go will arrive without the soup(not entirely sure why that is). I typically order the crispy spicy beef. Not too terribly spicy, but still very tasty. It’s also better to order straight off the menu with no modifications because too many of those might get you kicked out.

My co-worker gets Chicken Fried Rice from this place all the time. And I gotta tell you, its AMAZING. Never had such good fried rice. They make it as spicy as you want it and still have such a good flavor to the dish. The reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is cause the other dishes are great too… but they use too many fillers. I ordered the Kung Pow Chicken. and the plate was filled with more Celery than anything else on it. The dish was still good. But too many fillers. I am going to continue to get fried rice from this place and other dishes were they dont use any veggies. Works for me.

this is probably the only Chinese restaurant still open in the area and there’s a good reason why… the food is DELISH!!! …despite it’s sort of hidden between a big lot and auto zone. it’s owned by Jim and Anna a lovely husband/wife team that cooks/serves the food themselves most of the time… this is a very traditional looking and relaxing place although it’s non-traditional Chinese food they can sometimes provide authentic dish that’s off the menu if you ask for it… it’ll be seasonal /off the menu price of course… like most older Asian restaurants this place lacks a modern furnish and décor and it’s BYOB but their attentiveness and the fresh /quality food makes up for what’s lacking the price range is really reasonable for their portions… lunch usually starts from $ 5.50 to $ 6.95 and are served with rice and an egg roll and a cup of soup and there are over 40 items to choose from(if I remembered right) my favorite is the beef and scallop and their schezhun beef also their combo fried rice and hot & sour soup they provide really fresh meat/veggies and the cuts are nice not like some of your lower end Chinese fast food places… there are just too many to list at this hidden treasure you’ll have to try them all to figure out which is your favorite I only wish this place was closer to Richardson so I can visit more often and maybe change up the oldies that’s always playing on the radio

We tried this place based on the above average reviews we read here and were sorely disappointed. The food was not good. However, the couple that owns this place were extremely friendly so it pains me to write this review. I just don’t want others to have the same experience. Both my girlfriend and I couldn’t eat more than a couple of bites of the egg drop soup. The fried food(egg rolls and my honey chicken entrée) had a bad aftertaste that reminded me of cigarette smoke. My girlfriend got chicken with broccoli and it was okay. However, the fortune cookies were the highlight of the meal! The grammar was hilarious.

Don’t let the location or the fact it is tucked away in an old strip center with Auto Zone and Big Lots deter you from dropping in for a really good lunch or dinner. I have both dined in and had take out. I often forget about this place(shame on me !) unless I happen to be in this part of Farmers Branch.(Located in the Northwest corner of Josey Ln and Valley View Ln) I so luv the Prawns Rouge; glazed with wine, finely minced pork, green onions and their«house sauce»; wish I knew what that was. I’d order a cup of that just to drink !! It is delicious, has a little bit of a kick(which you can ask them to bring up a notch or two if you enjoy really spicy). Served with a crispy egg roll and fried or steamed rice. HUGE portion, with plenty of medium size shrimp, not those tee tiny salad size ones that you often see in this dish. Their combo fried rice with chicken, shrimp, bar-b-que pork, beef is excellent.(You can specify any combo of the meats, or all) The dish is moist & tasty with the green onions & egg. Lots of meat unlike some chinese restaurants who skimp on this part of the entrée. Again, HUGE portion, I can get 3 meals out of one order. Served with an egg roll. And, possibly the best hot and sour soup I’ve had anywhere. Again, large portion even for a cup, so flavorful and spicy. Lunch specials daily range from $ 5.50 to $ 6.95 and are served with rice and an egg roll. 46 different choices to agonize over for lunch !! Oh, they also deliver for those who live in the area, and provide easy in and out for pick up orders. Owned by a husband and wife, who always greet you with a big smile and provide friendly, courteous service. You can tell they really appreciate your business. I’ve never had an unpleasant experience here. Décor is simple, not impressive, but restaurant is sparkling clean and tidy. Okay, now I’m starving… but they are closed on Sunday. Arghhhhh !!!

My office gets lunch from here about once a week. It is a solid choice in our neighborhood. They have decent cuts of meat and the food is not greasy. I like my food spicy, and it is never a problem for them to bump it up a notch for me. I am a picky eater who modifies my order on a regular basis. This place is owned by a husband and wife team. She is always kind about my many requests, while he tries to tell me they aren’t possible. I try to place my orders through her because it is just easier. Yummy egg drop soup. I also like their hot and sour soup. My favorites on their menu are the chicken with mushrooms or the beef with scallops. Take out and eat in are both fast. Very dependable restaurant.
