Edward McKay Used Books & More

I used to really love this place, but it seems to have lost all it’s greatness. They offer hardly anything for used books (2NC will offer much more, at least for what I have brought in) and the customer service is lacking.
Occasionally, you can find good stuff — but it’s not my favorite!

This is my favorite book store in Fayetteville. Their prices are unbeatable. I added 5 cookbooks to my collection for $ 16. Extremely reasonable & their selection changes everyday because they’re always getting new books.

I used to love this book store when it was on Chicken Coop Road. I am amazed at how much it has changed. Used books are a little higher. Trade ins prices are not good at all. Paperbacks used to be the main focus. Now it seems like DVD prices are higher than walmart or target and they are used. CD’S are just as bad. It seems like they have lost the footprint for their business. Sad. This was such a fun store.

I like going to browse around McKays. I have found many good reads from there… lately a lot of homeschooling books.

Nothing has changed. The trade/​sell staff clearly resents customers. Worse, I’ve heard them mocking books customers have brought in.

Love this store. Great selection and prices on used books and movies. They give decent store credit for the books you turn in. Just a good place to wander and see what you can find

The staff is very helpful. Always willing to assist in finding titles, or other items, and great at suggestions based on your requests. I’m not sure if they give the best dollar for books you bring in, but the staff makes it such a pleasant experience, I found myself not caring much.

I love this place and I come here regularly. Every time I walk in, I am always shouted a greeting by one or more of the staff. The product selection is great, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the store itself is pretty large and well kept.

Great used bookstore! I came here just to browse and was impressed how large of a store it was and how jam-​packed full of material it was. They not only sell books but also CDs, DVDs, iPods, kindles, and a few personal game players.
As far as books go, there are aisles and aisles of stacked crates stuffed with ‘em, all organized by genre and author. I myself love a good brain vacation, so I spent half an hour wandering the fiction paperbacks. Long story short, I walked out of here with five books for under ten bucks — a sweet, sweet deal. On my way out, I checked out the CDs for a good laugh and almost grabbed a TLC album simply for nostalgia’s sake. They really do have a varied selection: old George Strait and Willie Nelson records, some Beethoven, some Chingy, Eve 6, Metallica.
If you’re tired of Netflix and can’t bear to look at any more friends’ pics on Facebook, check this place out. I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like.

Not as good as the one in Raleigh, but still some good finds at times.

The economy is bad right now so people are looking for job below what they should be paid because of a college education and degree. Which is me. Well come to find out when they are hiring they will except your application but don’t bother if your not a friend of anyone working there.
Now for the you get a deal when you have books that you want to return for store credit… sometimes. With the price of the used books there it is a hit or miss on a good deal. I am ready a series right now and try to get as many of the books I can get my hands on with the series. Well they are charging $ 4.00 and some change. When I can get the same book for $ 2.00 at 2^nd & Charles.
The employee must feel safe at their jobs and may think they couldn’t get fired. Well I am here to tell you there are like four people that show lose their job because they are rude and act like they are doing a great service for me when I am the customer and should be treated as such.
I was excited at first that I found a used book store. But I don’t recommend this place to anyone until they get rid of everyone working there are and start fresh.

I gave up TV and the internet. The only time I watch TV or get on the internet is (shhhh) at work. I LOVE MY JOBS! So now instead of vegging out in front of the telly, watching Real Housewives or someone cooking something I will never eat, or some criminal getting justice served, I read. I make a cup of tea, wrap up in a blanket, and read. I read two or three books a week. Could be expensive, right? But noooooo! Not with Edward Mckay Used books! I can go in there every other week and come out with a grocery bag full of books for around $ 10.00. And when I’m finished reading them, I can take them back and get a credit for a few of them. I take most of them back, even if I don’t get credit for them. I want people to read, so if the store puts them in the free stacks (yes some of the books are free), I’m happy. They have hardbacks, paperbacks, audio books, videos (DVD and on tape), music, (CD and a few vinyl), even video games.
The folks that work there are super nice, too!

My sisters and I go there –way– too much, that the employees recognize us. haha But for good reason! We mostly go there for their amazing DVD collection. Call us old-​fashioned but we like to own the DVDs and whatnot. Plus, I’m a major TV boxset hoarder.
Although I go for the DVDs, they have a ridiculously large book, game, misc. section. Definitely go there if you get the chance! You might have to search for what you want, but you might find something there that you weren’t looking for that might be even better.

This place deserves 5 stars… but then I read a children’s book aloud to someone and realized 17 pages were missing. That’s a significant amount since the book is only 45 pages long. I was disappointed considering the book was almost in perfect condition and ‘ready’ to be given to a child who was inspired to read because of the series. My boyfriend convinced me it wasn’t the place’s fault, but I still feel ripped off. At least it was only two bucks.
Other than that, the place is HUGE compared to the mom and pop shops you find in Columbia, SC. Those going to Ft. Bragg to visit friends or family should stop by this place with a bag ready to fill. I left with 14 classics, a fun book entitled Cat (worth $ 8 at the store but valued at $ 17), and the defective book for $ 42. I saved 43% off of the regular retail value on the spot! I’ll return despite the defect. They have the largest selection of used children books and classics I’ve ever seen.
If you’re in need of fuel for your fire, they have two whole book cases of Twilight books.
3 stars to caution people to check their product before paying!!! Otherwise they would get 5 stars from me.

Great place, great selection, great prices. I found the Raleigh store first, but then went on a pilgrimage to all the others. I only managed to hit Fayetteville once (farthest drive from Durham), but it’s as big and awesome as either Raleigh or Greensboro — and better than Winston Salem.
Between books and DVDs I’ve easily bought 200+ things between the 4 stores. 90% were things I went in knowing I wanted, the rest were surprise finds (which are always great!).
In DVDs especially if they have a lot of stock the later ones will be priced lower, so if you see more than one check them all and pick the best price!
They also have a huge selection of video games, especially older games at good prices (not «this is a collector’s item» prices).
Expect to spend an hour or more unless you are *really* good at walking in, checking for exactly what you want, and then leaving. If you «just look around» it’ll take you a while!
They also purchase items. You bring in a box, wander the store for a bit while they dig through it, then go back to the check-​out to find out what they’re giving back and what they’re paying. They choose what to take based on demand, and their stock levels — so sometimes it’s hard to figure out why they take what they do, but they have a good system and it’s working so go with it :-)

Terrific place! you don’t get much for trade-​in (and can’t use it on electronics, audio books, etc :(), but the kiddie section is a steal, and they have great prices on paperbacks and cartridges for those dumb gaming systems to sent to deployed husbands. They always have a special, too. Good local business to support.

Love this place — the bargain rack is huge, and you can actually find good books on it.

I love this place! I just went for the first time on Thursday and I went back again Friday. It’s a really big space with more stuff than I ever have time to go through.
On Thursday I brought in about 5 CDs and a book and I was hoping to get at least $ 7 for all of it — they only took 4 CDs and gave me $ 10.80! I went back the next day and brought more and they again gave me a great amount for what I brought in.
On the 2^nd day, I went through their $.50 CD section and found some great deals. They also have a good size kid section.

Go here to browse. You may find a hidden gem. They have cliffs notes if you’re doing a book report, lots of random books organized by subject, some school text books, a large selection of Dr. Seuss and other children’s books, used music CDs, vinyl records, video games, and used video game equipment.
