History
Established in 1981.
The origin of Hair Lounge began in 1981 as Shear Dimensions and sister salon Brassfields built their teams and reputations. R.J. Jones heading up Dimensions with a dozen stylists including our own: Marv Smith and Helen Piatt. Rick and Dan Brassfield, with their namesake salon, Brassfields began building the same, again with a dozen stylists including the expertise of our Patty Seaver. Then the two salons combined forces… on stage… In Korea, the first American hairdressers to tour the country, it was broadcast nationwide. The staff continued to be hired by numerous major hair companies, while also working movie sets, television shows, runway and fashion shows. Traveling worldwide, annually for 27 years (Italy, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Guam, Korea, Japan, Bahamas, Australia, Canada and the United States) performing hair shows 40 weeks per year. Training over 1 million hair dressers begining in the 80’s. We continue today, though spending more time at home and in the salon.
Meet the Manager
Marv S.
Manager
Marv has been in the industry for over 36 years, working literally around the world year after year. Movie sets, magazines, television, runways and photo shoots, performing to audiences of hundreds of thousands world wide, yet always returning to Federal Way WA. Most guys didn’t grow up cutting their G.I. Joes hair, dreaming of becoming a famous stylist one day… neither did Marv… Then a high school notice to skip 3rd period (Geometry class) & attend a seminar on Cosmetology (what is Cosmetology anyway?) then a scholarship… he was enrolled. Winner of every student haircutting competition in the state, he thought he was pretty cool. It didn’t take long for him to discover he had a long way to go to be cool… Marv is currently hired by several different major manufacturers as a spokesperson and consultant. His travels have slowed, so he can spend more time with his family. Monthly jobs still take him both nationally and abroad for photo sessions, editorial work, and shows.
