Poor service at breakfast. Hard to understand when there was only one other customer. Restaurant was filthy. Food on floor, divider walls filthy, booster seats dirty. Need to bend down and look under booth seats.

I would give this zero stars if I could. On our last and final visit his evening, the floors were a mess. There was not a clean table to be had.(The floors and tables remained this way during our visit.) I did see someone clean a table but he was busy talking on his phone, and other employees were busy texting on theirs. We had our food and were done and ready to leave before our malts arrived. We had to ask for them twice. They did not have any malt in them. One had so much chocolate we could not drink it. I could go on but I think you can figure out to stay away. Go to Five Guys instead.

This is your basic chain fast food restaurant specializing in burgers, fries and milkshakes. They do have some healthier grilled chicken and entrée salad choices which are quite satisfying. I’m not a fast food guy, but my 88y/o mother-in-law is a Steak & Shake regular(really! 3or 4 times per week) so I go on occasion and am happy to find workable options. Service is spotty but the place is friendly and the food is consistent. Even though the décor is a 50’s theme, this location seems a bit worn and could use some updating. Today, the single urinal and one(of two) toilets in the men’s restroom were out of order. In addition, the facility appeared to be less than pristinely kept. I’ll come back because my mother-in-law likes it, but for no other reason.

Steak and Shake is such a love/hate thing… you love the food and shakes, but the service is so spotty that you hate going. But let’s face it… you are paying roughly $ 8 for your order. And thus… you get service commensurate with the cost. What cracks me up are people expecting to get the full server hand and foot treatment… for 8 dollars. It is a sit down joint with fast food prices. Mostly it is younger kids working and I tend to cut them some slack. I was young… once. Overall this location is exceptionally slow but I have never had a bad food experience here. And people have been nice.

When they are properly staffed, this location churns out hot and tasty burgers, fries, and breakfast items. The last time we went, they were down some cooks and servers, so people were walking out because they were being ignored, while others were returning dishes that must not have been cooked well. My family just dealt with the bad service because it’s basically just teens working there, and we were having a nice family day anyway. That said, we waited 30 minutes for our food, our burgers were cold, and we never got water — even when we asked a random waitress. We observed workers just chatting with their friends or boyfriends(I never thought I would see that, but the same waitress we asked about getting us water said«sure» to us and then walked over to a guy and just kept chatting with him). We actually laughed about our experience because it was so bad. The table next to us was there before us and were served 10 minutes after us. But they had water at least. Ha. We went to Five Guys across the street for dinner later that night, and it was a million times better.

Worst experience I’ve ever had. I don’t expect the beat service ever at a steak and shake, but this was downright awful. I ordered a cajun burger with cheese. It came out as a ketchup and onion with no cheese, when I addressed the waitress about it, she told me I didn’t know what I was talking about, and brought me a cold piece of cheese on a plate. After multiple attempts to explain that this was the wrong burger, she finally took it back. The rest of the table ate their food while I sat there. 25 minutes later, and still no food. The manager finally realized there was a problem, and brought me my burger within a few minutes. The waitress was as rude as can be, and blamed us for the errors she made. As a former food service industry employee, I try to give people some slack, but this was just the worst. I will never return to this location.

The staff at this location is always super patient and nice. I am the mom that comes in with a toddler and I am impressed with the price and friendly staff. My child loves the grilled cheese and a milk shake afterward it’s a real treat for her.

Went through drive-thru at 1 am, nobody in front of me or behind me. Nobody answered the drive-thru for a full minute. I said«hello,» nothing for another 30 seconds. Was about to leave, then a girl answered. Ordered a frisco melt, got home, and find the melt is literally burger and sauce between two slices of white bread that appear to not have touched the fryer; they are not crisp like advertised, they are dry and floppy as if straight from packaging(uploaded video here). These people clearly don’t give a shit. The girl at the window was thin and had very short, white-colored hair. Maybe she or a coworker will read this and care more next time. Probably not.

I would not typically choose steak ‘n shake as my first choice in fast food restaurants, but my mom, who is a huge fan wanted to go there. I’m so glad we did! She had her usual steakburger and large order of fries, with extra pickles on the side. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and fries. Our food was presented quickly, hot and fresh. Our young waitress, Lindsay K., was courteous, pleasant, and attentive. And the cashier/manager allowed us to use three of their coupons, saving us just under 6 ½ dollars on our $ 23 order! The caramel apple shakes that we got«to go» were delicious! I would recommend this steak ‘n shake location to anyone.

This steak and shake is excellent all-around every time I visit it to the food that’s hot and fresh all the way to the drive-through people that are very polite and courteous

I’ve been going here for a couple years every now and then. Worst location ever. Orders can sometimes take 30min-1 hour, even for just a shake. The place is often dirty. To top it off, one of the employees(new driver) nicked my car and had the manager(who was actually a family friend of the employee) lie about what happened to the cop. Cop didn’t buy it though, but it was a pain. I hope this place goes out of business.

I hate to say this, I really do. I am a major fan of Steak and Shakes far and wide. Im just hoping the manager or owner of this location sees this and steps up to the plate. This place is seriously filthy and needs a deep cleaning. If my grandchild hadn’t had his heart set on it I would have walked right out. The floor was sticky, the menus were sticky and the bathroom was gross ! Although our server was friendly even her uniform was badly soiled and there were stacks of dirty dishes and cups on at least a third of the tables for the entire 40 minutes it took us to get our small simple order after it was placed. None of the employees seemed to care. Even though it was not a busy lunch crowd I had to stand at the cash register for almost 10 minutes just to pay my tab and I was the only person in line ! Another customer commented to me on the way out that ‚“they need to get their act together«and she wouldn’t be visiting here again. Clean up your act guys !

Such slow service here. Sometimes understaffed, other times plenty of people and it still goes so slow.

What is so hard about ordering a hamburger and a shake and not getting the shake? 2 tables with customers in the whole place and they can’t complete s simple order? I quit going to Steak ‘n Shake s a year ago because of the same problems. I’m done with them for good. I mean how ironic is this; its steak and shake and they can’t do the shake part?

Food was fine but the manager was not good. It took him like 5 minutes at the drive thru to figure out how to add an extra patty. You’re the manager. Then at the window he tried getting me to pay twice. Probably not organized.

I normally love Steak ‘n Shake, but not this location. I have been to the drive thru on two separate occasions and waited over 30 minutes for my food! No one should EVER have to wait 30 minutes in a drive thru. The employees seem rude. They are also extremely stingy on ketchup packets, which is annoying. I’ll take my business elsewhere because this location isn’t worth the hassle.

Normally I dig on Steak n’ Shake but this particular location provided horrible service! We came in around 1am and despite the fact the sign said ‘please wait to be seated’ no one approached us for several minutes so we sat ourselves. Then a young server appeared and she looked downright disheveled — hair a mess, smeared makeup, bloodshot eyes, and talking 90mph. She proceeded to tell us tonight had been a crazy evening for her — that there was some sort of physical altercation between a cook and a bus boy.(information that did not make me want to stay and eat at this establishment, but I was buzzed and hungry so whatever) she then brings out our drinks and our shakes(that were $ 4 a piece) in a just above half filled to go cup. When I asked why we received such a small portion when the shakes usually come in tall glasses she advised their dishwasher doesn’t work after 9pm so there aren’t any clean dishes. Cool, so I pay full price for a half filled to go cup because the place of business cannot provide clean dishes?! The mistakes continued: I asked for no tomato and received two juicy slices on my burger. My boyfriend asked for onion rings and instead received fries. Our to go drinks were never refilled. And we had to walk back to the kitchen where we could hear her loudly complaining about something or someone just to ask for our check. Overall very poor experience. Just because you work the night shift does not mean you can give piss poor service!

I tend to frequent this restaurant when I am working night shift and always have a consistent and speedy meal when I go through the drive thru. Today I went inside and had a much different experience. The food was still the consistently good meal I have come to expect love but the service was just slightly higher than poor. We were seated right away by a young hostess who mentioned that it was a very busy«first day.» We then sat for about 10 minutes before we were met by a waiter. He then took our drink and dinner order and disappeared for a while. Upon returning, he had our food and our drinks at the same time. The order was wrong and I had to ask multiple times and multiple waiters for crackers to go with my chili. Guess I’ll have to stick to the drive thru.

Normally I’d give them five stars, especially for«Captain Danger,» the superhero who mans the drive-through on weekend evenings! The last couple of times I’ve been there lately, I’ve had to wait an extremely long time in the line just to get to the window, and then had another long wait after pulling up to order. I know that they take a little longer than your average fast food joint, but I had to pull out of line yesterday after waiting for close to 10 minutes.

I fell in love with Steak ‘n Shake’s chili when I moved to Indy in the late 90s. I grew up with Coney Island restaurants but I guess I only got chili on my dogs there. I don’t remember having chili 5-way until I ate at Steak ‘n Shake. It’s a good, greasy treat. Their burgers are solid and so is the grilled cheese. I like that Steak ‘n Shake is generally quick and cheap but a nice alternative to fast food restaurants. Note that, if you’re on the northside, there’s this location and also one on 96th St in Fishers, so be sure to specify to friends which one you’re going to if you’re planning to meet people!
