Marc Alan Day Spa

I was gifted a certificate from my boss around Christmas and decided to book my first appointment after having it almost 3 months. I decided on a Shellac and was booked with Beata. I was impressed with the staff and the facility as a whole. Beata was very sweet and took her time while doing my nails. But it was something when she got to the very end of my service and took the lotion to massage my hands. Oh my goodness!!! At that point, I started dozing off. That feeling was absolutely AMAZING! I even decided to book a spa party there for my birthday… I absolutely love this place and HIGHLY recommend it…

It had been several years since I had been to Marc Alan and since I was in the market for a new stylist I thought I would give them a try again. When I scheduled the appt I requested a stylist who was familiar and did African American hair. After first scheduled appt mishap and coming back the next day and finding out the stylist was no longer with the shop I was ready to give up. This is where they get 5 stars in my book. The desk staff was very apologetic and even offered me a great discount on my services. They then suggested I see Leslie and assured me she was great. Well they were right, she was wonderful. She was very nice and sweet. She was able to color my hair and get rid of some very persistent grey and the cut is beautiful. The layers are so perfect that I only have to use my fingers to style it. I will definitely be seeing Leslie again… she better not go anywhere.

I have been a customer of Marc Allen for over fifteen years and in those fifteen yrs. have had two complaints. What has stood our most, is the spa’s reluctance to resolve complaints. The 1^st. time I booked several spa services, a girls spa day, for me & my sister. When we arrived, I learn that some of my services had been canceled by the manager. When I inquired as to why, she said she tried calling me to cancel some of my services but got no answer and the spa was overbooked & I had booked to many services. I said excuse me but isn’t clients booking services how spas make their money? The manager became angry as if I had said something wrong.
The second time was two weeks ago and I won’t be returning this time! I came in and got an ionic foot bath, pedicure, facial and body wrap which were excellent. I tipped all the people that serviced me as I usually do. Before leaving I thought get your hair colored and flat ironed. The stylist that waited on me went on and on about being a master stylish & knowing all there is to coloring & maintaining the hair. I told her I want my hair colored brown & platinum blonde but she wouldn’t hear of it. Keep in mind my hair is natural (no perm). She was relentless in telling me why I was wrong about the colors. I was so exhausted that I jokingly said, «why don’t u just pick the colors». She decided or brown & red! The 1^st time she colored my hair black instead of brown. After that, she solicited the help of another stylist whom she asked throughout the process if she thought the color was ok. I was there several hours while the stylist colored & re-​colored my hair. I allowed her to blow it dry before saying that’s enough. Stood up & put my hat on. Walked to the front desk & informed the checkout person that I was not satisfied with my hair. She said she would talk to the owner & get back with me.
While enroute home, I received a call from her saying the owner said I can come back on a different day & she would have another stylist do my hair. Once home, I looked at how badly done my hair was plus it immediately began shedding. So the next day I called Marc Allen to say that I didn’t want my hair recolored & would be willing to except $ 100.00 in product instead & was told no. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. She continued by saying that I can’t buy spa products or use the money for any other service other then to get my hair redid. I tried several times to explain to the person that my hair has been colored several times & I do not want more color on it to no avail. She continued by telling me that Marc Allen is redo my hair for free. I explained that I paid for a service & the service was not rendered therefore ur not doing my hair for free becuz I have already paid for the service & to limit what I can spend my $ 100.00 on is taking my money & telling me how I will be allowed to spend it. Again, she fail to see the logic. Therefore, I asked her to have the owner call me. To this day I have not hear from the owner & if this is how the manager treats dedicated customers this is not a spa I want to do business with.

I love this place! I am willing to pay a little extra to have my brows waxed. The relaxing and professional environment is definitely worth it. Make an appointment to see Keri!

This review is about a week late, but I owe it to you guys so here goes —
Pros (THE ONLY REASON FOR 2 STARS): The ambiance of the spa — very calming, warm,& relaxing. While there, there were a few girls at the front desk, but they were all polite and smiling. When I checked out, there was a really sweet lady who assisted me.
Cons: Oh I came here for a brazilian wax. There was a snowstorm & I couldn’t get to the city to see my normal lady. This was the most awful, terrible, horrible experience one could ever encounter. First off, it took the lady (really nice too btw) about 50 mins to get the job done. I’ve been getting waxed for about 6 years now so I’m very familiar with all parts to it. Then they only had these tiny strips, which sometimes she was successful pulling off & other times she wasnt. The skill level, was not low, it was more like non existent. Also, soft wax was used.
All in all, after spending $ 60 for THE WORST WAX in my life, I never want to return. I was referred by my girlfriend & immediately threatened her life for the referral (I kid). Not sure how everything else is there, like I said everyone was nice & sweet but DONT GO FOR THE WAX. Thank me later.

I booked an appointment first thing in the AM so that I could take my son to a class. (Appointment was scheduled for 830am on a Saturday.) Late Friday I got a call that said that time wouldn’t work, but that 10:30 would. I reluctantly said it would work, as long as they were on time since I had to take my son to his class at 11:30. I showed up at 10:30, was told that the person was «a few minutes behind.» Again I expressed my concern. 25 minutes later, I was finally seen and rushed through my appointment (upon my request so I could take my son to his class.) The woman who did my nails was great, but I would never go here again… the people who do the bookings obviously don’t know how to schedule peoples time properly, I knew this was not the tech’s fault, as she was running on time, they just crammed me in where they could. I would give zero stars if it weren’t for the nice woman who did my nails! They didn’t offer me a discount, nor any apology (though the nail tech did apologize on their behalf.)

I love Marc Alan. I have been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. People say the staff is rude, but not once have I met a rude staff member here. Perhaps I just come at the right times or am just lucky to have been paired with amazing people for my appointments. I have Chrissy do my hair and she is amazing. I have a colic and my bangs are always hard to manage, however, she cuts them in a way that makes them frame my face perfectly and not constantly stick out. I have Drea or Becky do my brows and they are both amazing. They fit my eyes so they aren’t too thick or too thin, which I have had problems with at other places. I’ve never had a massage there and got my nails done once (because it is ridiculously expensive) so there isn’t much I can say about their services in that department. I am surprised so many people had bad experiences, but that was not the case for me. You should definitely check them out for a haircut or wax.

Im writing this review in increments b/​c i want it to be as accurate as possible.
Pre-​visit: So, i have been meaning to get my haircut and full highlights for a while now and then i stumbled upon a groupon (how convenient!). 56 $ for haircut, wash, dry, style and full highlights. i jumped on the offer because it sounds soo good! So, despite some not so good overall reviews on Unilocal,i saw tons of good ones too. so i decided to go for it :) I paid on
, then called the spa and made an appt– it was quick and they had the time i needed So, made my appt and I believe i have Kelli as a stylist. (i just read a real nice review about her, so i hope that they dont change stylists on me now.) I have only highlighted my hair once in my life. and im going in on my 26^th birthday (¹⁰⁄₂₈ friday!). so im praying it goes well :)
Actual Visit: Receptionists are very sweet middle aged ladies. I arrived early by about fifteen min. Downside– i waited about 50 min till i got taken care of, yea thats right, 50 min. But, u know what, KELLY was uh-​mazing. She spent an hour highlighting my hair, and it breezed by in good conversation. She was never distracted with other customers, she pampered me and spent all her time with me. So, i spent an overall 3 hours at the spa 1 – 430. But when i left, i looked great!
My hair– well i will post a picture, but it is WONDERFUL. She did exactly what i wanted, gave me a color that looks phenomenal and a haircut that makes my face look great! A very low maintenance haircut and style is what i wanted, and i got it! She gave me recommendations for a good hair straightener and was so helpful with all my concerns with hair dye (mostly the bleaching process, which she did not recommend and i did not get done). She also informed me that their hair dye uses .25% peroxide and not bleach. which is apparently a lot more gentler on the hair.
I walked out of there looking, smellin, feelin like a million bucks. I was on a tight budget, thank you groupon and thank you marc alan day spa for treating me SO INCREDIBLY WELL despite coming in with a coupon. OH to those coming in with it, PLEASE TIP ON THE ORIGINAL PRICE OF THE COUPON. Your stylist is going to do a job worth the money.
All in all, wonderful experience. Im taking off 1 star for the amount of waiting i had to do. But it wasn’t so bad because Cara came and served me a mean cappuccino while waiting. Amazing service and amazing staff.

This review is for Kelli the stylish stylist only.
She’s terrific and funny, a real joy to spend a couple of hours with while you wait for your hair color to set. Some of her stories had me rolling laughing.
She also gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had. Strangers have stopped me to tell me how much they like it. I’m pretty terrible at styling my hair, so this is really something.
Kelli also cuts my mom and my sister’s hair. My sister is the pickiest person ever when it comes to her head and she loves what Kelli has done for her.
I’ll follow her to any location if she ever moves.

The staff at Marc Alan is professional, and yes, you pay for it. Shampoos include a wonderful scalp massage and are consistently a high point of my visit. My stylist, Daniel, is very sweet and quite competent. I know I can trust him to give me a good cut and color every time.

I was referred to this salon by a friend i used to work with. I am bi-​racial so my hair can be very difficult to deal with! She referred me to Jason who is SUPER! I love him! He takes his time and listens to what i want to be done. AND the prices there are very reasonable! I have recommended him to many of my other friends! I have not had one bad experience in this salon and as far as the staff they have been so nice! I wish them good luck with their new location where i will be following as a customer with Jason!
LOVE IT!

This used to be my salon. The sad thing is I really do love and miss my stylist. She was the best! I just can’t justify spending that kind of money when the reception staff is so rude! The 2 main reasons I stopped going… The manager? At the front who rolls her eyes at everything! Get over yourself honey you answer phones at a salon! And the owner who is only friendly to her clients and rude as hell to everyone else she comes into contact with.

I brought my mother here several years ago for a mother-​daughter Mother’s Day massage. Thank goodness, my mom’s massage went great, and she still sees the same therapist (who has left Marc Alan to open her own business) but I was unlucky. I got a really large, angry woman who kept complaining that I was too thin and that massaging me was like «massaging bird bones.» Talk about rude!!! The other day, I stopped by for a pedicure. They told me that the nail tech doesn’t come in until 1. Seems odd to not have one during all of the hours they are open, no? I went ahead and made an appointment at Jonathan Kane salon instead.

I came here for a wax while home visiting. Kari did a good job and was knowledgeable about skin issues related to dark-​skinned people. I ended up getting the latest gadget from the Bare Essentials line due to her excellent salesmanship and willingness to offer up useful information.
I would definitely come here again.

Whenever I come in to visit my parents and need a blow out, I go to Marc Alan and I’m always happy. I think the staff is so cute and nice, and I am always pleased with the results. I agree with Cameron you have to be specific about what you want, but that goes for many salons so I don’t think Marc Alan is any different.

Possibly the rudest staff I’ve ever run across. The spa staff are great, but unfortunately you have to deal with the teenage/​college age front house staff that have way more attitude then necessary for their minimum wage job!
Screaming «what» at a customer waiting to pay isn’t exactly the best way to get repeat business. Also, when a customer asks for help in purchasing additional items … the best answer is not «we’re closing soon»
If I was the manager of this place I’d fire them in a heartbeat… especially the Blond that needs to loose about 15 to 25 pounds; maybe that’s why she’s so angry?!?
Word of caution for those looking for a hair cut … I asked very specifically for a seasoned stylist and instead I got a child who has been cutting hair for 7 months at most; he was rude and rushed through the process. Be adamant about seasoned and check again before you sit in the chair; learn from my mistake.
Like I said — the back room where the spa services happen the ladies rock; the front of the house run by the children is a complete client kill. SAVE your dollars and go somewhere else!!!
