Chinese vegan place. Super weird experience.
On Sunday morning, we come in here to pick up some baked goods and to see what else they offer. I was super curious about this place. We tried coming here on a Monday for dinner, but they recently decided that they would not be open on Mondays.
The place is a schizophrenic mess. I mean, seriously, their pastry case was filled with not only pastries, but also entrees, and a hodge-​podge mess of things and nothing had any labels on it. Good luck maneuvering through the mess if you don’t speak Chinese.
We were able to ask about the items, but the staff here seemed to be a bit schizophrenic also. No one could really tell me what cakes were what, or if the savory dishes were what I thought they were. A total clusterfuck.
But luckily, the lady owner was super nice. She kept trying to give us samples of things she made. And didn’t seem a rush at all to help us (too bad we were double-​parked and needed to move). She even gave us a sample of small sweet potato balls she made. Tasty and a nice free treat.
Everything here is VEGAN, so no worries, I was home free and could eat anything! I picked up an order of «oily rice,» which is a traditional dish of Taiwan. I usually can’t eat this because they put dried shrimp in it. This was really good. I devoured this in no time for lunch today!
I also picked up some five-​grain man tou, which was 6 for $ 9. A bit pricey, but well worth it. We also ordered a slice of carrot cake and a soybean drink. The soy bean drink was fantastic, it was a bit pulpy and not too sweet. The carrot cake is not what you think it is. It is not like the American version. It tastes more like a spice cake which has some raisin and walnuts in it.
I would like to come back and try their weekend buffet, it costs $ 15. A little on the pricey side, so let’s see if I can coax my family here!

Food was very good. I ordered the S&S Chicken lunch special and everything was very fresh and really good. The only weird thing was that since I ordered the lunch special, I was expecting to get a spring roll included but they failed to bring one to me. When I inquired about it they said it would cost extra. I would have to look at the menu again but I was certain it came with one as stated on the menu when I ordered. I didn’t really want it since the food was so good and the portion so large so I let it slide. I was so glad to find this place while I was traveling on business. I will come back next time I am in the area.

Ive never had vegan miso soup before and was SUPER excited about ordering it. It was bomb. And mad cheap too. I also ordered the steamed dumplings. They were pretty good but they had soy inside and my stomach cant handle soy very well. So first having the miso soup (trying not to eat the tofu pieces) then the dumplings was a risk that ended with a not so happy stomach. I’m gonna stick with regular chinese food steamed vegetable dumplings with just veggies inside.
As for dessert, I got the pineapple cake and a small bag of (i dont remember the exact name) oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (?). Idk what they were but they had a lot of texture with chocolate chips. It may have been a bad batch but the cookies really werent that good. They had a chalky/​baking soda taste. I at them at home after dunking them in tea so they tasted better. But the pineapple cake was delicious! It was hard on the outside and filled with pineapple. Only down side was how small it was for $ 3. If you like pineapple desserts, I suggest trying it at least once.
I dined in and the servers were very friendly. Also, the woman baking behind the counter was nice. She told me which things were vegan.
All in all I had a good time and pretty good food. Def going back to try other menu items.

This restaurant is sort of trek even though it’s in Flushing but well worth the trip. All you have to do is walk towards Target and then make a left for a few blocks.
On to the food… I’ve recently started a strict vegan/​no additives/​no preservatives/​no sugar diet. The food was so good that I actually felt like I was cheating. I had the pumpkin soup with mushrooms which was sort of bland but I liked it because it had a creamy texture which was a nice treat since I miss the texture of dairy.
For the main dish, I had fried rice with cedar shoots which was spectacular. It was extremely light and flavorful. The lack of salt in the soup was made up for by this rice dish which gave my mouth shots of various tastes awakening my taste buds. Heck, I didn’t even know what cedar shoot was but whatever it was, it was tasty. Not sure if it was the tofu-​like cubes or the actual herb-​like sprinkles they mixed with the rice.
They give you huge portions too. The soup came in a cereal-​size bowl and the fried rice came fully loaded on a medium-​sized plate. I couldn’t finish the whole meal even though I wanted to.
And to boot the staff was really nice. Definitely going back to try other dishes.
And I took a look at the pastries on my way out but it didn’t look that appetizing to me. Well, can’t eat them anyway because I can’t eat sugar so that’s fine.

This small joint that has become a restaurant with Lunch Buffet and Dinner. THIS is one restaurant that serves HEALTHY FOOD. The Owner is also a very good person keen on promoting health Dining.

really like the people here. soon as you walk in you can feel the pleasant buddhist vibes. the best thing though is the organic vegan chinese pastries. so yummy. none of that disgusting overly sweetened stuff you get in the standard shops.
the entrees and noodles are healthy and so cheap. could be a littel more flavorful but i’ll take it either way.
the grocery section is really great. lots of healthy powder mixes and in the freezer they have frozen cedar shoots. oh boy, yummy yummy now i can make my own cedar sauce fried rice at home!!!

This is a lovely little bakery and café in a non-​veg-​friendly area of Queens. Bread A is not all vegan but they have many vegan options, which they have clearly marked. I really liked that they have both traditional Chinese sweets (like red bean and mung bean buns) and Western sweets (like chocolate mousse cake), in addition to pre-​made salads, sandwiches, and sides.
I tried both the red bean, which was pretty good if you consider adzuki bean-​stuffed dough to be a dessert, and the chocolate mousse cake, which was so-​so. The latter wasn’t particularly sweet and tasted very healthy, so I’m guessing that this was a healthy and less processed version of the delicious vegan cakes NYC is known for.
Bread A bakery/​café has a good assortment of refrigerated/​frozen, and bulk items to chose from but some of them aren’t marked so you’ll have to ask the staff. I got two bags of unmarked veggie meat and was told that one is like chicken and one is like beef and that I am to soak them for 15 minutes then boil and season. We’ll see how that goes. For about $ 3.50 a bag, they are much cheaper than veggie meats elsewhere.
I also got this «homemade vegan fish» sort of log that was FANTASTIC! It was clearly made of soy (lots of tofu skins) but I found a few chunks of carrots in it, which were unexpected but good. Its consistency was soft and it crumbled with a fork and it was wrapped in seaweed and tofu skin which held it together. The log/​filet thing was $ 9, which is pretty expensive, but it was fresh and homemade and had a great flavor. I sliced it up and pan fried it with greens, although it’d probably be good microwaved or on a sandwich.
