Their kalbi used to be my favorite, but it tastes off now. They probably changed owners. Sad.

My favorite korean restaurant! I love their kalbi and tell everyone that korean bbq is the sole reason why I can’t become vegetarian. Their seafood pancake is also really delicious and chewy. It’s filled with pieces of squid, oysters etc and not just batter and scallion. The side dishes are always good but my favorite is the steamed egg that is complimentary with each meat bbq you order!

One of my old time favorites. This is one of the oldest Korean BBQ restaurant in the Flushing area. I’ve been there from way back in hs/college years(approx. 15 years ago). I don’t know about the service since I haven’t really sat down to eat for the longest time…(I still order for take out), but food is definitely one of the best in town. Better than the bigger restaurants nearby. I would give it 5 stars, but I’ll keep 4 because I don’t know how the service is nowadays and by reading the other reviews, it seems like it hasn’t been good.

Foodgasm! The meat was flavorful and tender. I have been here a few times and they never disappoint. My favorites are beef spare ribs and the plethora of sides they give you. Make sure you ask for rice in the beginning.

Terrible service!!! I was kind of disappointed coming here after reading good reviews for this restaurant. The time I went was very slow, yet the waitress didn’t come check up on us. I had to ask the lady at the register to give us our check, since my waitress was too busy talking to the other waitresses. After the lady took the check back, we were waiting a while for our change, but was never getting it because she assumed it was tip when it was well over 20%, which definitely wasn’t deserved. They tried to steal our money!

I never came here for the BBQ so I can’t comment on it but the soups are awesome. I think I had the Duk Gook the last time I came here. It comes with small slices of rice cake, and lots of cabbage, I wish it had more meat though. Its a very spicy soup, more spicy then I would had liked. One of advantages this place on others is that the soup always comes out hot. In fact it comes out on top of a flame. The only place I know that does that. You can’t get any hotter that. Another thing is the amount of appetizers you get. The soups are a minimum of $ 11. The appetizers completely makes up for it. You are guaranteed to leave full and satisfied. They give you 8 different appetizers that they will always refill for you. You will never be bored of your main dish if you supplement with their appetizers. The environment is also very comfy. I really like the feel the wooden tables/dividers give you. The cherry brown color scheme they have going on takes you to another place.

I used to think their food is good and I’m not saying it isn’t. But I was craving Dwen Jang Ji Gae because I’m pregnant and when I went there to eat it, their tofu was DEFINATELY spoiled… regardless if your pregnant or not they should not be serving spoiled food to any of their customers… sorry NEVER going back…

I must say that this place may give Wonjo in Manhattan a run for it’s money with the flavor of their food. I went here with my girlfriend and didn’t order BBQ but the other dishes were awesome. We ordered a seafood pancake, beef broth with sliced beef, and special udon. Just looking at the standard appetizer selection offered to us. The udon was boiling hot and popping with tons of flavor. The udon was cooked to perfection and the seafood in the udon bowl awesome, filled with clams, a while shrimp, a slice of fish cake, mushroom, sliced seaweed, and half an egg. The beef broth with sliced beef was a bland soup flavored with the beef and served with salt on the side accompanied with a bowl of rice. Strange because the dish lacked flavor. The seafood pancake was filled with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. I’ve been to a lot of Korean restaurants and this is the first in a while that I definitely want to revisit as soon as I can.

I am a man on a mission to find the best and most affordable Korean restaurant this side of America. I actually frequent this place because its very close to my doctor’s office. Out of the multiple times I’ve been here… I’ve rarely had a good experience. Their banchan(side dishes) are fantastic and that is usually a good indicator of the food, but alas, the disappointment after disappointment make me give this establishment a 2 star rating First time… I came to eat some BBQ. I wanted to try«Gob Chang» which is … don’t cringe… INTESTINE. Yea… it tasted exactly how it sounded like. That was an epic fail, don’t do it. So I couldn’t use that experience to make a good judgment call on this place. I then decided to give it another go. I ordered«Soon Doo Boo»(Soft Tofu Soup). It was oily and tasted like water with gochugaru(red pepper powder)… failed again! How do you mess up this dish? It’s like a cardinal entrée for Korean restaurants. But I thought, maybe they were having a bad day. I went again and tried there«Yook Gae Jang». This just tasted like Shin Ramen with some shredded beef. If they can’t get these simple dishes right, it puts me on the cautious side when I have to start ordering the more expensive bbq. But yes, the wait staff is great, the banchan is amazing, but the food(which is what makes a restaurant) was way too below average.

I love Korean food and was looking forward to coming here on an impromptu lunch date with my mom. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit lackluster and overpriced. In all fairness, there was nothing about this establishment that was bad, per se. The waitstaff were friendly and the food was edible, hence the 3 stars. We ordered the bul ko ki to cook ourselves on the charcoal BBQ grill, and man do gui(fried dumplings). After placing our order, we were informed that there was a two-item minimum to use the BBQ grill; otherwise, they cook your food in the kitchen. This wasn’t really a problem because I wasn’t particularly in the mood to smell like Korean BBQ for the rest of the day, but I would’ve been bummed if I had been looking forward to grillin’ and chillin’ on my own. The banchan(small side dishes) arrived shortly after. This is always my favorite part of Korean cuisine; there’s something about having dish after tiny dish placed in front you, as if to say«Your meal will be a flavor explosion!» But I digress. There was a variety of pickled vegetables, fish, and what I believe were tofu skins. All of it was very delicious, but I wish the waitstaff had told us what each of it was. Not a big deal, though. Then came our food, and that’s when the disappointment set in. In short, it was farrrr cry from what I usually enjoy as Korean cuisine. The fried dumplings were dripping with grease, and the bul ko ki tasted like soggy stir-fried beef, completely lacking the signature balance of sweet and salty. Be it known that I have never been disappointed by bul ko ki before, including times when I’ve bought the premade sauce from a Korean market and made it at home. But it wasn’t ALL bad; the steamed egg thing that came with our meal was pretty good and the dumpling dipping sauce was delicious. As mentioned earlier, the waitstaff were very friendly, but overly attentive at times, such as in standing right next to our table waiting for us to finish a dish so they could clear it. «I love the feeling of being watched impatiently while I eat,» said no one, ever. This meal of one entrée and dumplings set us back $ 37 before tip. More than I would like to spend on mediocre food, I don’t foresee myself coming back in the future.

Best Kalbi spot in Flushing. This neighborhood joint has been open for over twenty years. Sut Bul Gui translates to ’ wood fire grill.’ As soon as you step into the place you could smell the smoky woody essence of what makes this restaurant so great. You don’t go to Jang Tuh for the noodles. You don’t go to Jang Tuh for a stew. You don’t go to Jang Tuh for bi bim bap, or the pork dishes. You go to Jang Tuh ‘wood fire grill’ for the Kal Bi or Korean marinated short ribs. The wood chips add a smoky flavor to the meat which will have you hooked. Why would you come to a Korean BBQ restaurant to order anything else? Would you go to a Peruvian Chicken place to try the Fish? Would you go to a Fish n’ Chips spot to order a Burger? At $ 28.95 per serving, the price may seem steep for the foodie with shallow pockets. However, if you go with three people with average appetites, two servings of Kal Bi should suffice. The waitresses frequently hovering over your table to tend to grilling the meat may make your dining experience feel a bit cumbersome. Hey it’s all part of the Jang Tuh adventure. The accompaniments or ‘ban chan’ are plentiful and fresh. When you order the Kal Bi you also get a complimentary steamed egg and a meaty stew. You should also order a free bowl of red bean infused rice or ‘jap kok bap.’ Sometimes they run out of the jap kok bap so you have to go with usual white rice which is steamed to a perfect sticky and chewy consistency. Can’t have meat without rice, right? The technique or execution of eating the meat is also crucial to maximizing the flavor. I’ll walk you through the process. Step 1. First you grab a lettuce leaf. Step 2. Optional: Then put a little dollop of rice in the center of the leaf. Step 3. Then gently place the Kalbi on top. Step 4. Put a dab of the fermented soy bean paste which has an orange and brownish tinge to it on top of the meat. Step 5. Then put some onions drenched in the miso, mustardy dressing. Step 6. Wrap up your lettuce wrap and stuff it in your face and enjoy.

Sad this place closed! The food was spectacular albeit expensive; however, the service is what garners a 3 star rating. Location Quite a hike to the end of the 7 train and then a 10 – 15 walk from the train station. It would have been perfect if I had a car, but you really need one completely open day to schedule this into your eating agenda and not feel rushed. Afterwards you can walk around and enjoy the boutique shops and drink a bubble tea! Food The jap chae is the best I have ever tasted! Definitely recommended. Expect to pay around $ 20 — 35 per person. Service bad experience with the service. rushed, repeatedly pushed to buy certain things on the menu, took out our food before we finished, gave us the bill before we asked in an attempt to let us leave the table and usher us out.

My friend recommended this place for kalbi and I’m so glad we came. The service was impeccable even though we were a rowdy group of 10 coming in on a Friday night. I made reservations beforehand just to be safe, but when we arrived the restaurant was half-empty and filled up as we ordered and ate. The kalbi was cooked over charcoal and it was juicy, plump and delicious! The waitresses there cooked and cut all the meat for us and I watched as she cut off the tiny burnt portions as well. As usual there were a lot of side dishes, so many that we had to layer them on top of each other. When you order kalbi they give you free extras like dumplings, soup and steamed eggs which made the deal better. We also ordered the seafood pancake which was crispy and delicious. They were really accommodating as well — I had brought in a homemade birthday cake and they refrigerated it and let us eat it there. The waitresses were all really nice, although once the restaurant got busier, we had to ask them a couple of times just for a water refill. This place is on the pricey side, but the quality was to die for. There’s no way you can get meat or service like that at other lower quality places. Definitely a splurge but recommended!

FOODCRAWLSTOP #15(THEGRANDFINALE)!: Do you love Korean Barbecue? Hell, do you love meat?! This is the place to go. Quick tip: Go with friends, get the Kal Bi. Mix in all the side goodies as you see fit. The raw beef strips were pretty good, too, with jicama and cukes(mmmm). Favorite side? The eggs — surprisingly delicious, since I’m not often an egg girl. Pickled sides were spot-on, too. Even the tea was stand-out, here, I probably had 4 glasses. Funniest moment of the trip and of the restaurant: the video cycling on the Korean news station while we were eating was all about how Korean men can keep their testicles cool in order to be fertile as possible and have little Korean chilluns running around. It got surprisingly graphic, but rather than being unappetizing, we just thought it was straight-up hilarious. An outstanding way to end the food crawling weekend!

Who doesn’t love Korean bbq? So i quickly looked at all the reviews before going here. Wood burning bbq!?! Damn strait i’m there. Ok so we ordered… way…too…much…but we ate it all… and were stuffed. 5 orders of Kalbi, 2 orders of Jap Chae(sp?), a Bi Bim Bab, and 2 orders of a few things i can’t spell or pronounce correctly. The Kalbi — obviously was the highlight. **The wood coals come out and instantly you feel that heat hit you like a wave crashing against your body — the meat is carefully toss on and starts to sizzle… your mouth waters… your eyes diliate… your pulse quickens… you being to sweat nervously… it’s like meeting your first love for the first time… all over again.** Yeah that’s how i felt… The wood coals gave the kalbi a wonderful aroma while we picked at the rest of the appetizers, rice dish and noodles. I really enjoyed the Jap Chae as it had a distinct peppery flavor. Some may find it overpowering, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. 5 orders of kalbi went quick against 6 guys. The ventilation system wasn’t the greatest — and — while being pretty hot inside was also smokey. That actually gave it a really cool atmosphere when you walk in. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and felt food coma set in quickly afterwards. TL;DR: Kalbi was the highlight on Wood Coals — Flavor was great! Jap Chae was peppery(i like!) Warm inside. Smokey atmosphere from the cooking made the restaurant cool to walk into.

This Korean BBQ place was a bit of a disappointment. Meh, I have experienced better. When the Unilocal reviews are 4.5 overall rating… I was excited. When I left, bleh. This place should really be a 3 star place for food. Minus 1 star for the service. TIP: If you do go here… do not go on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm. Bf and I found a group of loud drunk men sitting right in the front center of the dining room. Loud, obscene, and using profanity throughout our entire meal. We were seated in the back corner of the restaurant, but the guys were so loud that it didn’t matter where we sat. For those that know me and bf, we drink. The men were so drunk to the point that when they asked for another bottle, bf muttered under his breath to me «I think they’re done drinking». Yeesh! This is coming from a guy who drinks… YUP! BANCHAN: The steamed egg served with the Banchan was BURNT. FOOD: 1) Huk Sea Ji Sam Yup Sal(#6) — thin slices of pork cooked open grill The first time I had pork belly was at Hahm Ji Bach where the pork slices was thick and it was wrapped in white radish with a peanut powder — The pork here in comparison was thin and overly salted. The pork was wrapped in lettuce like Galbi instead of being wrapped in white radish. Also, the waitress that cooked the meat for us made the meat too overly cooked. Bleh. Here is the picture to show the pork, the meat isn’t as thick as Hahm Ji Bach’s version: 2) Kal Bi Gui(#2) — short ribs Because we ordered the pork, we could not get our Galbi cooked with wood charcoal. Boo. We went ahead and ordered it anyway using the grill. Boy, was that a bad decision! The waitress that cooked the meat for us certainly DIDNOTKNOWHOWTOCOOK. If you look at the picture, there was a lot of water(excreted from the meat)… and the meat wasn’t even seared. This defeats the whole purpose of cooking on a grill… I could have just thrown the meat into a pot and cooked it myself with my own rudimentary cooking skills. Notice the water in the middle. I purposely moved the meat to the sides of the grill. The waitress that cooked the meat then mixed everything together with the water that was in the middle of the grill. Notice that the meat is cooked but isn’t even seared at all. This sucks. Defeats the purpose of the BBQ in Korean BBQ. 3) Hwe Neng Myun(#18) — noodles with sliced puffer fish and veggies in hot & spicy sauce First time trying puffer fish. Wasn’t too big a fan of it. CONCLUSION: Do not go to this restaurant on a Sunday at 2:30pm. The servers will be very absentminded focusing on cleaning the floors and peeling garlic. They’ll send over the waitress to cook your meat that really doesn’t know how to cook and not fill up on your tea. If you go… get your meat with wood charcoal. Don’t do the grill.

Have been trying different Korean restaurants in Flushing but stopped after I have found this hidden gem! You could easily miss it as there is not any big English words on the sign. The restaurant was very homey and comfy. Very speedy service, even kinda rushy… we ordered kimchee chigae and grilled pork, which came out really really tasty. And the portion was big enough to feed 4 people. I checked the menu again and realized the price was even cheaper than the usual. Didn’t try the BBQ but definitely will go back with friends to try. This is the only Korean restaurant I recommend my friends now!

Hands down the best korean bbq in Flushing i’ve been to… and I’ve been to many in the area. Traditional charcoal bbq grill with good ventilation and good service. Ordered the kalbi… portions are very generous and pretty thick slices. There are several banchan — mini side dishes and my absolute favorites are the steamed egg and the Gaejang(Spicy seasoned raw crab). This place is small and gets packed during peak dinner time. Well worth the wait.

Has become one of my go-to places for Korean BBQ in Queens, although I admit my exposure isn’t extensive and the selection in Queens is mind-boggling. Located across the street from Flushing’s largest 2-level parking lot by Union St. Not a large place, nor one that openly caters to non-Koreans, but the staff are helpful and courteous. They do charcoal grilling here. On my first visit, I was redirected to ordering one of their beef short ribs(after choosing something else, forget what) and it was wonderful: among the most tender I’ve ever had with great flavor. The banchan(the assortment of small plates that often come as part of a Korean BBQ meal) included the usual, but a very nice bonus were two free stews. One is a lightly flavored egg custard/broth and the other a rich, spicy beef tripe stew. Both excellent and nicely complement each other. Haven’t sampled too much else. Ordered the jap chae once and thought it was a very nice version, with more layers of flavor than just tons of sesame oil, noodles that aren’t limp and a good assortment of added ingredients. Will definitely continue to come back here for my Korean BBQ fix, until I get a recommendation to try somewhere else.

The grill was fired up and the first up to be grilled was the BBQ Pork Belly(Samgyeopsal Gui). This dish reminds me a bit of unsmoked bacon. After the meat was cooked, we dipped the meat in a salt /pepper vinegar. It was then wrapped in a piece of lettuce with some scallion /lettuce salad. The meat was thick and had chewyness. Often when I have had this dish, the meat was too thin. Next to be grilled was the BBQ Short Ribs(Gal-Bi). This will be a true test to see if black angus meat was better. Oh it was very tasty and full of flavor. The black angus had a nice marbling to it and that marbling transfered to how good the short ribs tasted. The meat was very tender and juicy.
