The best neighborhood bakery. Coconut buns with real toasted coconut flakes, delicious and large variety of everything. Friendly staff, clean shop and honest pricing. Perfect train food/quick breakfast.

The good news: in the morning, this shop sells special Taiwanese-style scallion pancakes coated in sesame seeds. If you love the more common form of these salty, chewy pancakes sold elsewhere, give this extra-thick, flaky-layered version a try. All of their other breads taste fine. Though there’s nothing particularly special, this is one of a few bakeries that keeps its doors open late(if you want a snack/dessert after dinner) – even better, the buns are sold at discounted prices in the evening(ask the kind lady about the discounts as it varies). Unfortunately, the bad news: I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten food poisoning from this place twice within a few months. The first time was from the chili bean curd and bamboo salads sold in a glass case by the register. Although the dishes appeared to be wrapped properly, there’s no temperature-control in that case, so I’m not surprised it turned out badly. This week, I also had trouble after a cream-filled cake I bought there. Both of these occurred as a result of purchases made in the evening, so it may be due to stuff left out for long periods of time(maybe those late hour discounts aren’t so great after all…).

Yummy pastries! My favorites are: coconut buns, coconut pineapple buns, ham and cheese buns, and the taro buns. Delightful! Less selection but definitely better and cheaper than some of the bigger places like Taipan and Fay Da imo. Also 2 pastries for $ 1 after 5:30pm is a steal!!! The people who work here are super nice and very kind too.

Had a baked taro bun and a fried donut today. The bun was pleasantly chewy, the donut not overly sweet despite being dusted with sugar. I’d gladly go back for both. These guys have been around for years, and are underrated. As one reviewer above noted, the selection and quantity is less than your chain behemoths; they’re also tons better.

I also love this place. After 6pm, the buns are all 2 for 1 dollar! What a steal =) The lady behind the counter is always so warm and friendly, and really proud of the buns that are sold. The selection and quantity is less than that of, say, Taipan or Fey Da. But, it is a small place. The bags of «bao» in the fridge are also quite tasty. They have a small display case for cakes. I would stay away from the pre-sliced cakes, as the slice that I bought was pretty dried out. However, I am sure that the bakery churns out good cakes, since I see lots of families order cakes for birthdays.
