I love this place. I go routinely like every few days when I get a coffee or tea craving. I recently walked out with a box of 8 egg tarts… oh man! They were heavenly, and everyone at work was so excited to have one. Thanks New Flushing Bakery!

I don’t get the hype about this place? I love egg tarts and i am seriously an egg tart addict, so when i saw this bakery filled with all different kinds of Egg tarts i seriously freaked out and was like omg i need to come here. Maybe its the reason that i came at night around 7pm but I don’t think that should affect the quality of the egg tarts too much. they had cheese tarts(new product) too and i was going to buy that but everyone raved about Portuguese egg tarts and i decided to get that. Bear in mind i had like egg tarts like thirty times in my life lol but these were honestly pretty mediocre. First i would’ve given three but the customer service was HORRIBLE i mean HORRIBLE the lady that worked there got so unpatient just because i stood there for like two min deciding what i wanted. i also asked her whats in the cheese tart and she rolled her eyes and just said IDK its just cheese. When i told her to heat it in the mircowave for me she just walked there with a straight mad face. HORRIBLE Chinese lady The egg tart was soggy and i know its heated in the microwave but it was so soft it almost fell apart and the crust is not the most crumbly i had. I have had egg tarts with WAYYY flakier crusts than this and the crust just blew off. The egg filling itself was creamy but thats all it tasted like. Very bland cream and a little bit of egginess and it wasn’t sweet at all, its that weird place between sweet and not sweet but not medium sweet either. If they had added more sugar it would’ve been better. Honestly so disappointed with the egg tarts here. The best I have had here in flushing is Tai pan bakery’s egg tarts, they have SUCH good egg tarts without even having to reheat it. Won’t be coming back again, these egg tarts are worse than mediocre

My top destination for egg tarts(there’s also another branch right by the train station around the corner from CoCo’s). Fairly priced at $ 1.50ea, the egg tarts here are so comfortingly soft, buttery, and flaky. I always get the 4 for $ 5 deal, which is an extra $ 1 saved[ ;) ]. If a flavor attracts the attention of my taste buds, then I’ll get that as well. My favorites are the Portuguese, Hong Kong, Green Tea, Lotus Seed, Mango, Sweet Potato, and Coconut egg tarts(that’s almost everything). The egg tarts here are always straight out of the oven and taste best when it’s piping hot and fresh. If you let it cool, then you’ll be in for a soggy surprise. When the egg tarts are warm, it’s like they’re alive and full of energy. When the egg tarts are cold, the egg tarts taste«lifeless.» The flavors and texture will still be there, but won’t taste as good as when they’re eaten hot/warm. Timing is important when consuming these. Try it and you’ll know what I mean!

Simple and great at what they do! Their Portuguese egg tart and coconut egg tart are not to be missed! Stop in here often either on the way into or out of the subway.

Food: a large variety of egg tart flavors, something for every egg tart lover. I always get something new and some thing old. Which for me is always a Portuguese egg tart. They have a great deal so you can try as many flavors as your heart desires. Brew: go upstairs and into the mall. There’s a lot of different drinks and options you can get. My preference is to wash down my sweet egg tart with even more sugar like a bubble tea. What else is insulin good for?

Egg custards galore. We bought a whole bunch to take home to Manhattan. They have a variety as well as one with a white color. I believe it was coconut or taro. In any case, the egg custards were standard. It’s good to heat up once you get home. There is available seating inside but it’s a bit crowded. Not a place you really want to stay too long.

These were so delicious! I grew up eating the egg custards in Chinatown(NYC and Boston) and always considered those my standard. Even after making my own a few times(they were pretty good, if I don’t say so myself), these were on another level! We bought 4 for $ 5(2 Portuguese, 2 traditional), and the inside was the right amount of sweet, and the crust was perfectly flaky and buttery. The best egg custard I’ve ever had! I have to say I was sorely disappointed in the bake goods here except for the egg tarts. The pineapple buns and pineapple buns were dry dry dry! I sent my gweilo boyfriend to pick some stuff up while waiting in line for dim sum, and if I knew that this was all dry and unappealing as it was, I would have sent him elsewhere(always take Unilocal reviews with a grain of salt!) The milk tea was fantastic nevertheless, but I would suggest sticking to egg tarts only and say no to the char siu and pineapple buns.

This place is super tiny. More than 4 customers and you will be rubbing elbows with others. This place is best for its egg custard tart! I think the best compared other bakeries. Their standard egg custard tart, coconut flavored egg tart and Portuguese egg tart is amazing!!! If you love egg custard tarts than this is a must try!!! My fav is the Portuguese egg tart! I can seriously eat 3 in one sitting! Don’t bother with the other items they sell as it is ok. I have tried them all and not impressed. The texture of their bun/bread items were a bit too crunchy. When I bite into a red bean bread or custard buns I want it to be soft. So, my advise is too pass on this. Better going to Tai Pan Bakery or Appollo Bakery for typical chinese bread/bun items.

Limited pastry selection, but doesn’t matter when you have the best egg tarts around! Portuguese Egg Custard Tart: $ 1.50 (Fragile — handle with care and eat it before someone else does!) –More on the expensive side, however I haven’t eaten anything like these before… I’m in love! –Unlike the other ones I’ve had at other bakeries, this one has a cinnamon bite to it. –The custard has a pudding like texture so I give you my WARNING… be careful whiling biting into this to die for goodness because you may find your shoes a new shade of yellow. –The crust is flaky, but soft to bite into. Not too thick and quite moist. Sponge cake 3 for $ 4.05 –These were nothing special and not as moist as others that I have had.

The name of the game is egg tarts(as evidenced by the main photo). Get anything else and it’s probably ok to decent but you should be coming here just for those. The shop is pretty unimpressive, they have a few displays and seating for maybe 7 or 8 people. The shop is one narrow long space right next to the subway and it’s on a busy street so you can probably get some good people watching done while you nom. The crust is super flaky and the filling is the right balance of sweetness and egg. It’s firm and not a weird gelatinous form like some places’ custards take. Bottom line — don’t be put off by the look, just remember egg tarts and value and you are golden.

I came in just for the egg tarts. They had two kinds so I bought both. I would say the original one tasted better, but my sister liked the other one better. Next time I go Im going to try the other pastries they have. Or just buy more egg tarts haha The only downside was that the cashier woman was in a really bad mood and gave such a bad attitude when I asked her about the egg tarts. Maybe she was just having a super bad day…

New Flushing Bakery’s small emporium at the corner of Roosevelt and Main in Flushing may not be much in the way of comfort and visual attractions, but they make and sell the finest mini custard pies that I have tasted in a long time. At 4 pies for $ 5, it is an excellent opportunity to try several varieties without breaking the bank. We grabbed two open stools that sat along the front window counter, ordered coffee and the custards, and watched the world go by for a few minutes as we kvelled on the uniquely light, airy, creamy, sweet, and oh so decadent pies. The Portuguese Egg Custard is at least as good as those found in the Portuguese bakeries in Elizabeth, NJ(Maybe, they are their creators?). The Coconut is more traditionally cake-like, but carries the same subtle texture and flavor found in the Egg. The coffee itself was better than expected, strong without bitterness. Next trip, the Mango version comes up for tasty review.

This ‘vintage-looking’ bakery has some of the best Portuguese egg tarts I’ve had in NYC! It was fluffy, creamy, and flaky! The custard itself feels smooth and light as air! Yum! You have to try the Traditional-style Portuguese egg tart among everything else.

Awesome little bakery next to the subway stop. Grab a couple of egg custard tart before heading back to the city in the subway. I much rather prefer the Portuguese style than the Hong Kong style(too eggy) but a great stop for sweets after a long day walking in Queens.

If you really don’t like the tarts from here, and attempt to flush them down the toilet, they may not go down the first time. Which is why I recommend a second flushing, or «new flushing», to make sure you get rid of them for good. Hence the name«New Flushing Bakery.» Honestly though, they’re really not that bad at all. What to get: Portuguese Custard Tart What else: Keep your head down. Danny Trejo just came by with a sawn-off shotgun I’ve been here three times. The first time, they were about to close, and had already run out of all kinds of tarts. The second time, it was late in the day, so they didn’t have Portuguese tarts. I got a Hong Kong-style custard tart instead, and it was pretty good. Probably around a 4⁄5. The most recent time, I came in earlier, and they had Portuguese-style tarts. I fell in love with them at the University Bakery(not to mention when I was in Portugal), and was hoping for more of the same. They were good, but not amazing. They fell short of the standards that other places had set. They tasted a little chemical-y and not as fresh and crispy as the ones I’d had before. Not as flaky, either. A little more squidgy and doughy. Not as much love gone into them, perhaps, I’d say. Later, I found another place in Queens(Starry Bakery) that makes absolutely amazing Portuguese Custard Tarts. So I recommend trying those, if you like these — or were underwhelmed here. Service isn’t great, either. They tend to shout at you and hurry you, even when they’re not busy. However I can’t give them less than 4, because the prices are a bargain, and even if they’re not the best tarts I’ve had, they’re still pretty good. Plus this place is open insanely late at night, until Midnight some nights, I think. And if the bathrooms here(actually there aren’t any, but bear with me) had newspaper instead of toilet paper, then after you did your business, it would be the«News Flushing Bakery.» Unless they had one of those signs: «Please Do Not Flush Paper Products.» I don’t think the NY Times should be used for that, but the NY Post — I’m all for it.

Best place to get pastel de nata! Yes, practically every Chinatown bakery makes them but this bakery makes the best ones! They make other flavors aside from the original Portuguese style as well as the Hong Kong style but I recommend starting with those two first. Their tarts are made with perfectly flaky pastry and the custard is cooked just right. Definitely coming back here.

So Delicious. There are a couple things that set their egg tarts above others: First, their crusts are not traditional pie-like crusts on other dantats. It’s a buttery and flaky outside with layers. Yum. Second, something about their Portuguese egg tart filling that is so creamy and rich. Sometimes a mediocre dantat or potat will have the consistency of an almost«jello» like texture. But not these babies. Oh no, creamy, flaky little cups of crack, my friends. I thought I had tasted the full extent of goodness of egg tarts until I came here. Once again, paradigm shift. For those not from the area, there’s no where to park. You will most likely have to take public transportation in, or pay for street or garage parking a ways away. It’s very much a hole in the wall like many Chinese bakeries in the area, not your cute place to catch up with a girl friend. Cash only. If you’re in Flushing, cash is pretty much the only way to purchase things.
