As an avid biker who moved into bayside, I was super excited to have a bike shop near me. One day I had the misfortune of having a slow leak in my front tire. Not having me tools with me I decided to just shell out the money to get someone at this shop to just replace my tire.
When I got in they looked at my tires and said it would be about an hour. No complaints there, I had time to kill and didn’t need my bike back too quickly. Before I left they checked my back tire and said there was too much air in it. My tires say they should be at 80 psi, I had them at 70. He deflated my back tire a bit and took my bike in. I thought nothing of it.
When I picked up my bike, it was $ 20. Pricy, but not enough to really complain over. Before I left o asked if they filled the tires, the guy said yeah and that I was good to go. 2 miles into my ride my front tire was flat again!
My guess is they never actually filled the tire up properly. To top it off after a little examination I realized I had a small leak (pin hole size). After fixing it up myself, I have nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. I paid $ 20 for a tire with a leak in it, and had to bike home on a flat.
If your looking for a repair shop, keep looking. Roberts is NOT the place.

This bike shop has great bike not to expensive prices good quality bikes I purchased a bmx bike it is really good no problems so far we always got bikes at Walmart they have bad quality bikes and the tires lost air as soon as we got the bike we took out of the car and we realized the tires were flat this bike shop is really good and the prices are not bad you can get a good bike for 200 $ a electric for 560 $ a bmx 250 $

Always service my bicycles here. They are reasonable and local for me. They will make that extra mile to have a satisfying customer!

Long story short — my spokes needed truing and two replacements as the wheel went out of alignment. They «fixed» it.
Two weeks later spokes fell out again. I went back and the older man with the handle bar moustache and another very old man (his father?) accused me of hitting something which caused the spokes to fall out. They were so rude and nasty. I told them no such scenario happened and, after a very heated discussion, they fixed the tire gratis.
A week later the spokes broke again. Needless to say, I went elsewhere to get it fixed.
Rude rude incompetent people.

I was looking for an adapter for my electric unicycle wheel and I found it here! Richard was awesome and showed great customer service. The store was also kept really neat and clean. Overall I had a very good experience. I would definitely recommend this place :)

My boyfriend and I (both bike noobs) walked in with the sole purpose of browsing. Half an hour later, we walked out of the store as proud owners of 2 new hybrids. On our visit, we had the pleasure of working with Craig, who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He helped us select the bikes most suitable for each of us, and didn’t pressure us to buy at any time. We made the quick decision to buy because we liked what we saw. The only gripe I had was there were limited hybrid options to pick from.
Overall, I’m happy with the service we got and the fair prices. Another bonus is each bike comes with a 1-​year warranty. Thanks Robert’s, for my first real bike!

Just purchase a specilized sirrus carbon bike from Roberts bicycles and I can not tell you how happy I am. The knowledge and comfort level they provide assures you that you are being taken care of properly and the price is very competitive. I worked with Craig and he was great. If you are looking to get a new bike, do your research and then visit Craig. Game over. You win.

Was really great experience when purchasing a bike for my six-​year-​old. They found a bike that would fit him and he liked and were able to add training wheels with no problems. They called the next day that the bike was ready to be picked up as it was built for us. He was so excited it was made for him special. All bikes are ready to be picked up after you place an order

The best bike shop around. My grandfather brought me a 12 speed there in 1984 and I have been buying bikes nowhere else since then. They just made my oldest son’s year with a new BMX that was priced much better than those big sporting goods stores. And those guys put it together so you know its done right and I also know they will stand behind everything they sell.

I’ve lived half a block from this place for 5 years and have never bought a thing from them. I’ve tried, oh have I tried, but they make it impossible.
First bike I bought, I stood in there for 20 minutes with one other customer in the whole place and no one even acknowledged me. Then when I finally got helped they were not friendly or informative and acted like I was inconveniencing them. Second bike I bought for my wife, we went in together and again stood there for more than 20 minutes without anyone even looking at us Talked about price because we found it cheaper and they were not the slightest bit negotiable. Both times we ended up driving 10 minutes away to make our purchases from Bellitte Bikes and Peak Mountain Bikes because they were both way more friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating.
Today was the last straw. Walked in to buy a bike lock. They had a coupon on their website for 15% off accessories so I went in, showed it to them on my phone and tried to buy the lock. They wouldn’t take my money. Coupon had to be printed and handed to them. I understand if its a 3^rd party coupon and they need it physically, but this coupon was ON THEIR WEBSITE! How would you rather me walk out of your shop and buy somewhere else, then let me pay you cash money on the spot with a coupon that is ON YOUR WEBSITE.

Tldr; 2 stars because of poor customer service and a transparent bad attitude that was unnecessary.
Brought a bike that needed a new crank and brake cable. Charged me $ 60 bucks only to get the bike back completely unusable. After they switched my pedal to the new crank it became lodged and doesn’t allow me to pedal.
Never had a problem with the pedal before. Only when they changed it to the new crank did it become unusable.
I went back and explained to a person (who I will only refer to as the stache) how it got stuck mid ride and how it forced me to walk 2 miles with a bike I apparently just got repaired.
With a disgruntled face he took the bike back and said he’d look at it and to come back in 20 min. I come back he says it’s all good now. I’m assuming he did nothing because I can’t even get to the end of the block before the pedal locks up. Go back again, and tell him to actually do something this time. With a snarky attitude he takes it back but I guess he tried a little bit cause after I get it back the second time I can ride it around the block a few times.
I take it home, and wait till the next day to ride to school. Gets locked up again mid trip. Sonofabitch. Another 2 mile walk. I hate that guy.
Long story short bought another bike from a different shop. Glad I didn’t give them anymore business.

I wasn’t very happy with the service I paid for. The person who took my bike in was not friendly, I had some detailed questions about my wheel and tire and they spent negative time answering my concerns. Yes… as I expected… when I picked up my bike from a flat repair with them, it went flat again in 30 minutes. Just poor workmanship and why I will never return. I brought it to a different bike shop and unlike Roberts, they took the time to diagnose my problem and fix it for real for me. Instead of taking my bike in and herding me away. The reviews are true for this place. Some are happy who buy a bike and never need to come back… Others have been treated poorly and I understand why. Won’t be returning.

i’m a bike virgin so needless to say i could be taken advantage of pretty easily when it comes to getting a new bike. but then again, i have the power of google and internet reviews. and we all love reading reviews by unqualified critics (amiright Unilocalers?)
i already had my mind made up with a cannondal quick 6. they’re currently having a sale and that was at my price range.
for a quick comparison in bicycle stores: this was my third stop among bike stores. the first was metro bicycles in hells kitchen. they were knowledgable and friendly enough but didn’t carry cannondales. tried to sell me on a trek 7.2 which is very similar and not on sale. they did let me test drive my bike tho. next stop, tony’s bicycles in astoria. they were not friendly at all. plus their prices were higher than roberts because they didn’t have anything on sale.
so on to roberts, the salesperson was super friendly and knowledgeable. he only does this part time as he is normally a teacher. he didn’t try to push anything on me and i felt comfortable leaving the store without buying anything after talking to him for over half an hour. that says a lot. but i was there to buy. somehow i talked myself into buying a quick 4 instead for about $ 180 more because of the color.
the only negatives i have was that they didn’t let me test drive the bike. how you gonna sell bikes without letting people know how they feel on it?
nevertheless, great friendly bike store and great sale prices. roberts popped my cherry.

I want to be clear right from the beginning that I’ve received very good service at very fair prices from the two guys who work at this shop. They’ve treated me very nicely, too. The 2-​star rating is a result of the way I’ve seen them treat other customers, especially non-​white younger males.
A woman walks into the shop, no problem.
A man walks into the shop and he’s not white or, even if white if he’s not 40+, and he’ll get ignored, or watched suspiciously, or treated brusquely and rudely. I’ve seen this happen every time I’ve been to Roberts. The owner isn’t as bad as the slightly older guy who does most of the wrenching, but he’s bad enough that it makes me uncomfortable to be there.
The shop itself is small with a fairly limited selection of bikes and gear. I like that it’s not jammed to the hilt and there’s room to walk around and browse. The workshop area is through a door behind the service desk and they don’t like customers going back there.
If I had a major breakdown that I couldn’t handle myself and I happened to be right nearby, I’d go in and get my bike repaired. Other than that unlikely eventuality, I won’t be going to Roberts again. Those two guys need to get over their prejudices and pay for some customer-​service training.

Awesome customer service! I found this place on craigslist while browsing around for local shops to purchase a decent road bike for a good price. Once I went on Robert’s site, I saw that they were having a discounted sale on top brand road bikes. I walked in the next day and walked out with an amazing starter bike; Specialized Allez. Two days later I sent two of my close friends to Robert’s and they purchases their bikes there as well!

I have been using this store for the past 6 years and their service never disappoint me. I am a hugh fan of Bianchi bikes which they always have wide selection of. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable to help you to select the right bicycle depending on your riding style, purpose, body type, etc. When I visited the store because I got flat tire the store was packed with people, but they took me right in and put the new tube in within 10 minutes! Wow. I cannot wait for purchasing my daughter’s first bike from them.

This place has been a neighborhood staple since I was a kid and thats along time ago :). I just recently went in there to buy my daughter and gf a bike plus I needed a bike rack. I dealt with an older man who was very business like and had the bikes set up within a half hour. Plus he assembled the bike rack and installed it on my car. Dont know what other ppl are talking about but to me thats great service. He didnt even want to accept a tip.
I then went in the following day to look at road bikes and they have a decent selection. I dealt with the owner who was friendly and knowledgable. I had my eye on a Bianchi which was 1600.00 but he pointed out that the cannondale which was 1300.00 was just as good. I was a bit skeptic and unsure but I took his advice and went for it. What even better is he knocked the price down to 1190.00 and threw in some freebies. The way I look at it he could have made more money by selling me the Bianchi but he didnt and steered me in the right direction. To me thats customer service and thats why this place has been around fr so long. By the way I did some research on the bike he sold me and he was right, its considered one of the best road bikes under 1500.00. Thanks again.

I found this place on craigslist originally looking for a specific bike on clearance. Turns out the bike was sold already. Since i was open to different models, Robert was able to assist me and answer all the questions i had about specific model. He was very honest in his suggestions and even worked out a phenomenal deal on a brand new 2014 Giant Revel 29″. Very satisfied with my purchase, the prices are unbeatable. Highly recommended bike shop.

I was looking to purchase a new Mountain Bike and found that Roberts was fairly close to my apartment so I stopped in one night after work.
From the moment I walked in I felt no pressure to make a purchase and the sales associate was very helpful even after I told him honestly that I was just doing my homework. I noticed that they had the bike I had my eye on for seventy dollars less than I had seen it in any other stores and decided to jump on it.
When I went back the next night to pick it up they had placed cardboard on the frame to protect the paint job which I was very appreciative of and even threw in a water bottle holder.
When I voiced my concern that my small Nissan Sentra wouldn’t fit my new Giant Revel 1 I suggested that maybe I just purchase an inexspensive bike rack. The gentlemen ringing me up said «Let’s see if we can’t get it in there before you have to spend more money.» I was shocked and appreciative that he did not jump on the chance to sell me more merchandise and he even put it in my car for me and showed me how to easily remove and reinstall the front wheel.
The store has been open for more than 50 years so they must be doing something right!

Growing up in the area, I’ve bought countless bikes here; everything from a GT BMX bike to a fairly expensive roadbike. All-​in-​all, it’s you’re average neighborhood bike store. They’re good with common fixes, such as tune ups, tube replacements and wheel alignments along with doing more major work, such as truing my rims. The service here isn’t the most friendly, but like previous posters have mentioned, they’re straight and to the point and get most jobs done quickly and without a problem.
