This is a great place to buy a bed! Both mattress quality, and the sales personnel, are far superior to local corporate stores. These beds are made here in CA from high-​quality, natural materials. And the mattress can be unzipped to show you what’s inside!
The sales people were very knowledgeable and were a huge help in selecting the right mattress. After visiting several of the local «big box» mattress stores, we were very impressed with European Sleep Design, and we purchased a fantastic bed.

I wrote a review on November 3^rd that indicated my dissatisfaction with their product. I had neglected to contact them with my complaint but they were nice enough to allow me an opportunity to try a firmer spring set and that really helped me get a good night’s sleep. Jill and Chip could not have been nicer to deal with in trying to achieve customer satisfaction. In addition, I failed to mention previously that I bought their wool pillow and I’m very happy with it. Also, I recommend their mattress cover as it keeps the bed cool on hot Summer nights.
Bottom line: Please disregard my original review.

In these days of big chains with inconsistent service and toxic products, we are very happy with ESD. Their products don’t contain all the chemicals that you find elsewhere. There’s no out gassing of harmful fumes laden with chemicals that aren’t good for you. Their products are all natural and their furniture line is made in America.
The mattresses are incredibly comfrotable. We have purchased now four beds from ESD and are very happy with the quality and comfort of the product. And they have great customer service. Jill and Chip are top notch owners that truly care about their customers.
My advice: stay away from chains that sell cheap toxic crap from China. Go to ESD you will be very happy that you did.

We were completely impressed by the quality and service at ESD. My wife and I looked a couple standard mattress stores first, and while we found some options that might have worked, I knew from reviews online that I wanted to check ESD last.
The sales experience was completely different… no pressure at all; Chip took his time explaining all the different options. We ended up going with the Baltic Interactive (latex over pocket springs). The all latex and micro-​coil models were still very comfortable, just felt different. We preferred the mattress over a firm base, rather than the sprung slats, so we only purchased the mattress and the cover.
Once delivered, we found that if felt too soft on our cheap flexible Ikea bed slats. We replaced it with solid slats (rather than flexible), and the bed feels perfect! Just a tad firmer than what I remember from the store, which Chip said is to be expected for the first month or so.
We’re already sleeping better than ever, and are very pleased with our purchase. We spent a few hundred more than we might have on a Sealy, but the comfort and quality is a completely different level. Highly recommended!

Jill, Caitlin and Stephanie are awesome! They really listen to you and find a mattress to fit your needs. We bought the Meditteranean XP with adjustable slats, mattress protector and 1 Oxygen pillow. After about 30 days I ended up with neck and shoulder issues but they worked with me to find out if the problem was with the mattress or the pillow. It turns out the pillow wasn’t high enough for me since I’m a side sleeper. I love these products; they are made in CA, use organic material and are not any more expensive than many other name brand mattresses. I highly recommend them!

I’m so glad that we found European Sleep Design! My husband was very skeptical about spending 2000+ on a mattress, but he is a believer now. We got the Mediterranean XP with adjustable slats, mattress protector and oxygen pillow and pillow protector. Every single thing has been worth all the $$ and more. I’m 7 months pregnant and sleep better than I have in years. They gave me a free pregnancy wedge when we came in the first time and it has been awesome! We’ve had our mattress system for about a month and I’m so thankful for it every night!
The staff at ESD was amazing. Every time we talked with them I felt like they were knowledgeable, considerate, and never pushy. We got the year of interest free financing and it’s been working out great. There was a little math discrepancy but after talking with the staff again, we agreed that the math was a bit off the first time it was calculated. I understood all of the charges and there was strange charges that didn’t make sense. I love this type of business and I wish other businesses could be so straightforward and easy to communicate with.

Highly recommended. I got hooked by the Oxygen pillow, but the Mediterranean XP delivers the sleep of the gods! Go see Kelly; she is very knowledgable and understanding of the products and individuals needs. I was in several times and spent time evaluating the beds. Kelly listened to my questions and concerns. I couldn’t be more happy with ESD service and products.

My husband and I had 2 bad experiences with buying memory foam mattresses, had to send them both back for 2 seperate reasons. We heard about ESD through a friend that highly reccomended them. We went in to ESD w/​both of our young kids one evening and they were so helpful and even had toys for the kids to play with. Kelly helped us and showed us all about the beds, how they are different from traditional mattresses, etc. Even though we ended up leaving there about 20 mins after the store had closed, there was no pressure to buy, they welcomed us to come back another time or call with any questions. We had just had a bad experience at RC Willey buying a tempurpedic bed, where the salesman was pushing us to buy a $ 3500 bed just 10 minutes after looking at them. We really liked how genuine Kelly was and the other staff there. Very nice people!
We did go back about 3 weeks later to look at the beds again and we ordered one. Again, got excellent service. We were told that it would take 4 weeks to receive the mattress & slat system, and we got it in 3 weeks. The delivery was perfect and the bed is amazingly comfortable. I day dream of sleeping on my awesome new mattress.

We started out looking in the usual places for a mattress. While looking for reviews comparing two big brand names I ran across a forum talking about local mfr’s and how to get not only better value for the $$$ but a better mattress as well. ESD in Folsom just happens to sell one of these lines. The product itself is great, but of course this is a business review.
The staff at ESD is great. They absolutely take the time to work with you and figure out what you need. Unlike the big name stores, these guys really know what they’re selling. Not just the talking points of the features, but they actually understand how their product works and that helps them get you the right product if you decide to purchase. If you’re in the market for a new mattress, you definitely need to put these guys on your list to check out.

I too decided to treat myself by purchasing, what I thought, was the top of the line as far as mattresses were concerned. It was between the individual coil and an Tempurpedic. I chose wrong. I have spent over 7k between mattresses, the motorized bed bottom, two pillows that we cannot use, the mattress topper, covers, the whole ensemble. What a waste! I wake because of shoulder pain, my arms fall asleep, we had to remove the motorized bottom because my husband’s back hurt so much and ended up with a Tempurpedic boxspring, go figure.
I too am stuck with something I cannot afford to replace.
If there is a next time, I will make sure that there is some type of money back guarantee if not satisfied with the product.

We received our ESD bed and matress two days ago and are in love with both. We both already sleep better and wake up relaxed and without all the little aches. Chip at ESD was so helpful, patient and knowledgeable, we never felt rushed and know that we purchcased the correct mattress and oxygen pillow. It can be a bit overwhelming with the various choices of mattresses and pillows, and all feeling similar. Bed arrived a week earlier than expected, which was an issue since we were also replacing our flooring. Their delivery company was very flexible and stored the bed at no charge for a week before delivering it. All around a great experience.

I decided to treat myself to one of Sleep Design’s Oxygen pillows. These pillows are quite pricey so it’s important you choose a pillow that is right for you. I thought I knew what was best for me, but apparently I chose the wrong pillow (you can choose firmness and height levels). I took advantage of the comfort exchange and walked out of there with yet the wrong choice, again.
When I came back to exchange this pillow a 2^nd time, Jill, one of the store’s owners, realized I needed some serious pillow fitting. Jill spent probably 1.5 hours with me helping me to find the right pillow for ME. Jill educated me on all things pillow. Some might now think pillows are a big deal, but when you have serious back issues like I do a pillow can make or break you.
Here’s the icing on the cake: Jill can’t resell the pillows I took home. Also, obviously a pillow is a mere fraction of the price of a bed. And yet, Jill wanted to insure I was happy with my purchase. I am incredibly happy. And I am incredibly grateful to Jill for understanding my frustration and my need for proper alignment. I am SO grateful to this woman. She is an angel! Oh, and my new pillow rocks!

My wife and I are very happy with our ESD mattress. After a month, I can report that I sleep better, wake up more rested, and look forward to sleeping more than I did on the prior conventional mattress. Unlike Temperpedics, the other mattress we were considering, it stays cool and breathes much better. I really like the way it cradles my body but still stays firm.
I really like the sales process too. No hard sell. The salesperson was very patient and acted more like a consultant; asking good questions and responding with thoughtful, and truthful, answers. It ain’t the hustle you’ll get at the chain stores. Delivery and setup was very good too.
Definitely worth the premium price but you’ll have to be someone who values quality and service over price alone to appreciate the difference.

You pay for what you get. Naurally, there is going to be some place out there where similar products are less expensive, but if you are in a situation like mine, where I have precious little time and immediate need, you couldn’t be more satisfied.
Floor people Elizabeth and Ashley could not have been more accomodating and time-​taking with all of my (and my Mother’s) many questions and my hopping from bed to bed to see, and re-​see, and then see again, how they all really felt.
I ended up buying the top-​of-​the line set; a Baltic coil mattress and a Legra base (German-​made adjustable slat system), *which they arranged to deliver and install in my Santa Cruz Mountains home!*
I have no doubt that I will love this bed, and that it truly will change my life.
I am happy to have gone the extra financial step, and to have pruchased this most amazing adjustable bed/​mattress.

When the bed comes, I expect nothing short of excellence and delight. Should this be different, I shall change this review to suit the experience. I don’t expect to have to do so.

We were dreading shopping for a new mattress because of past experiences, but it was time. At European Sleep Design we were greeted immediately, and received pleasant, helpful service, no hard sell. We got exactly what we wanted, and actually enjoyed the shopping experience! The delivery company they use is excellent, too. They were careful coming in and out of our house, and took extra time to make sure our bed was set up exactly how we wanted it.

My wife and I have now purchased 2X from here. Our first purchase was nearly 10 years ago and is still our primary bed mattress in our home. 3 weeks ago I purchased a second mattress and had it shipped out of state to a vacation home. I was a little nervous knowing that it might be a real pain to deal with any shipping issues such as damage or returns… that said,. the mattress arrived today the shipment was perfect, the mattresses were boxed and protected well and were delivered without a hitch. Honestly, the best part of the mattress system is the adjustable slat support that my wife and I can custom for our unique needs. I will definitely purchase again in the future.
Basics: high quality bed, natural construction, no chemicals, solid build. medium and fair price.

The bed is very good; very comfortable. I have severe spinal arthritis and have tried every other mattress available — sleep number system; tempurpedic; heavenly bed; and so forth. So, we are happy with this «slat system» and the softness that I require in the mattress.
The service was good when they were SELLING the bed. But, there is no follow-​up service and you have to pay $ 75.00 to have the bed delivered. We found this to be actually «snooty» when you consider most places pay for the shipping due to the exhorbitant markup price of the bed itself. Of course, they didn’t tell us about this charge until we’d made our selection (which was lengthy), put all of our emotional effort into the purchase and then at the paper signing, we got the news.
Also, they have an A and B side of the Queen bed (if you so choose) — A is for a soft mattress and B for the firm. I lay on the bed the first night, and it was painful … that’s because the B side (the firm) was mismarked I suppose at the factory … we figured it out and had to rotate the mattress. It was then that we also realized that the slats were pretty much the same on both sides except for 1″. Funny, cuz this doesn’t make sense since my husband is 6′ and I’m 5’2″. I.E., my hips aren’t as far down the bed as his hips. We still need to call and get advice on how to set the slats; perhaps I’d have no pain in my hips if this were set correctly.
The other thing the owner told us is that the bed was «made just for us», hence, waiting two plus weeks to even get the bed. (We figured this is because they wait until they’ve sold so many beds in a two week period and then deliver to all.) The bed isn’t exactly «made just for you» …there can be a soft side; firm side; or all soft, all firm. This does in fact require different putting together of the bed but this is all that this company does. It’s not as though this is any different than Mary Sue’s bed down the street.
So, all in all, the bed is pretty darn good to sleep on. I still have pain but so far, it’s the best I’ve had (but I want the slats set correctly.) But, if you are looking for a really good customer service experience, I think it’s kind of disappointing so be prepared for these things.
A follow-​up call from the company would be a good start when one has spent nearly $ 3,000 for a sleep system. Wouldn’t ya say? And, for God’s sake, throw in the delivery — pleeeeeze! (There are no perks of any kind at this place.)
Final Verdict: Good bed; so-​so customer service.

Well, seeing that a 5 star rating was given by two people who haven’t even purchased I felt the need to chime in. We purchased. Very sorry we did. Very expensive and now we’re stuck. We tried everything to rectify the situation but I’m at a point now where I look forward to sleeping on a hotel mattress when I travel!!! The bed doesn’t work for either my husband or me. I’m sure there are people out there who love their bed… kind of hard not to when your into a bed for 3k, but we would get rid of ours today if we had the money to buy something new…

I purchased a mattress from them over a year ago and it is the most comfortable bed I have ever had. I had back and shoulder pain for two years before getting this mattress. What a difference it makes! Plus I love knowing I can breathe easily without all the off gassing from conventional mattresses. Really this mattress is a must! Plus it doesn’t cost more than a regular mattress, unless your buying it from Costco or big-​lots!
I bought a mattress from Sleeptrain before this mattress and it collapsed within 18 months and they did not stand behind their product! I am comfidfent European Sleep design will stand behind their products! Oh, by the way, I got the oxygen pillow… OMG, the best!

I had originally purchased a sleep system from European Sleep Design about 5 years ago. This bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever owned!
Lately, my son has been complaining about the «brand name» mattress that he is sleeping on. He recently asked me «Why can’t I have a bed like yours; mine is uncomfortable?» I guess I never really gave it much thought; that if I had a nice comfy mattress, why shouldn’t I want the same for my son? After a few minutes, I told him that I have decided to get him one as well. He is very happy. My son has asthma, and I think that the natural materials are better for him; no chemicals and funny smells.
Jill and Chip are friendly and very knowledgeable and always give such wonderful customer service! They are very concerned about their customers and want everyone to get a good night’s sleep.
If anyone reading this is thinking about going shopping for a new mattrress, I would suggest stopping in and taking one of their sleep systems for a test spin! I think you’ll love them as much as we do!

I havent purchased a bed from European Sleep Design yet, but I am impressed with the product after spending over an hour there trying them out.
I have major back issues and have ruled out tempurpedic and the mediocre products of simmons, sealy, and the rest.
The sales person Jill was very helpful and me and my partner were really conflicted about firm or soft and the varying degrees in between. But the patience and information she provided was definitely a plus.
The beds were fantastic and it was really only a matter of finding the sweet spot in comfort, I have no doubt this is a quality product.
I will update this post after we buy our bed and report how it ended up.
I am very anxious about this purchase as most people are but I need relief and as soon as possible.
In the meantime, please check this place out, you wont be sorry.

So I’m walking through West Coast Green (awesome green building/​lifestyle conference) and find myself chatting with European Sleep Works, then sitting on their model mattress, then laying down and trying the BEST PILLOW EVER… not that one too many glasses of wine the night before had anything to do with taking a wee break!
Anyway, the Oxygen pillow, sigh, was really amazing. So amazing that two days later I found myself at European Sleep Design in Folsom, buying my Medium+1 (yes, they even fit you for this bad boy). Jill and Jane, two lovely and incredibly knowledgeable ladies were awesome help and I walked out knowing full well I’d be back for the entire sleep system… mattress, more pillows and lovely organic sheets.
Highly recommend this great sleep design shop. All eco-​friendly and good, right here in the greater Sac metro area! Check ‘em out!
