The salon is under new ownership and has been renamed Urban Cuts and Color. Anatoli does both my color and my cuts, and he’s wonderful! In fact, last week, I got a rush color job at another salon(which I won’t mention) while I was out running errands, and the color didn’t come out well. I went to Anatoli this morning, who was able to squeeze me in at the last minute. He fixed my color, and was a total sweetheart about having to fix another salon’s goof. The prices are reasonable, and everyone there is very friendly and professional — no more«cheating» on UC&C from me!

Under new management — and renamed #UrbanCutAndColor — Sal and his team are still running strong. Service is quick, courteous and at the top of the trendy scene in terms of hair, make-up, mani-pedis, etc. If you haven’t been there yet, you should definitely stop in. Full mani-pedi, wax/threading, cuts, styling, etc. services at great rates. They just did a great job on hair and make-up for a few very formal events. Check out their work on Instagram under their new name.

I’ve been going to D&L for over a year now. I’m always happy with the cuts I get from Virginia. I’ve been dabbling with color and Brazilian straightening with really great results. I wouldn’t do anything that drastic if I didn’t trust her with my hair. The whole staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

I have been going to Cindy for years and I have to say she is the brunette and CURLYHAIRQUEEN!!! 1. whenever she colors my hair I get compliments galore. It is shiny with dimension, and the color is natural with hints of red and I don’t need foils. 2. I have curly hair and she gets it. I have gone to many stylists in my 40-some-odd years and she cuts the best long layers. 3. BLOWDRYING… no one needs to tug and pull your curls when blow drying curly hair. It’s curly hair. Some of us need our hair completely dried, some of us need it to be slightly wet. I’m a girl who has to have her head completely dried when I leave. Cindy dries my hair completely while letting my curls do their thing, she doesn’t tug or pull my curls. She lets them make perfect ringlets to go with her amazing cut. Cindy’s amazing color, cut and blow dry always make my day… and it lasts and lasts, so I’m good for 3 months! I have head turning curls!!! Think the girl from the movie«Brave.»

I absolutely LOVELOVELOVE this place & have been going to them for years. The staff is AMAZING. Anatoli has been doing my hair for years & I swear, this man is an artist & a perfectionist. I will never see anyone else to do my hair. Rosa will be the only woman that gives me my eyebrow wax. She is incredibly sweet & the whole ambience of the salon is TOPNOTCH. I have recommended many women to this salon & will continue to do so. This place will always get ranting & raving reviews. Thank you D&L Salon for always make me look & feel like a DIVA :)

I really liked this place and plan on going again. Cindy restyled my hair with a fresh shorter ‘do’ and glazed my gray away — my first time. It looked very natural. The change looked great. Cindy was very professional and had good ideas. She was supportive while I was nervous. Change is hard. High marks for a local salon. Recommended. A cut above. ;-)

I guess this salon has new owners because the bad review before me is from 2007. I am EXTREMELY picky about hair salons because I used to be a beautician. I was recommended to this establishment by a loyal customer of theirs. I went to get the Keratin treatment with Linda. She sat me down first, consulted, and was honest. She did a wonderful job and I am very happy with the results. They were clean and followed every State law I know of. I also thought they were very friendly. I would highly recommend this salon.

I do not know why this place was given bad reviews. Anotoli has been cutting my hair on and off for a few years. I had gone in there for the first time with a terrible hair style and he told me it was not a good look for me. I am the type of person that appreciates honesty and he is the type to tell you. Some people cannot handle that I guess. I have great conversations with him while he cuts my hair, and I appreciate that he takes his time and gives me a perfect haircut. As for the rest of the staff I am offered water, coffee, pastries from numerous employees and numerous times. They are extremly friendly I am really surprised by the bad reviews. It almost makes me wonder if there is another agenda behind them

I went there ONLY because i had a living social deal for the brazilian hair straightener well the girl at the front desk was about the only thing nice about this place. The stylist was running late which annoyed me she never acknowledged it or apologized for it now maybe the service is different when a voucher is not involved but i cant say it enough if you are not prepared to give the same service or better then please STOP using vouchers to attract business. my stylist who’s name i don’t remember because the only person who said her name was the girl at the front desk. she was dry had zero personality she asked me NOTHING! i mean nothing about my hair did the service and well lets just say i’ve been doing this treatment for years and she did the worst job ever!!! my hair is not straight nor is there evidence of it being treated by a good brazilian treatment i will never go back which is sad because i live in the neighborhood and i’m looking for a «home salon»…again the girl at the front desk was the only thing positive abt my experience there.

I have been regularly going to D&L for at least 6 of the 7 years since they have opened. I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results and have NEVER had a complaint. Anatoli cuts my hair(he is truly and artist and I have gotten so many compliments) and Diane(the owner – who knows how to create natural and head-turning effect) colors it. As a matter of fact, Diane has always created beautiful blonde highlights in my hair. When I decided I wanted to go red, she really took time to consult me about it and gave me several safe alternatives. When I finally decided to just go for it, she did a wonderful job!!! I have always felt welcome and my wishes have always been paid attention to. In my opinion, this is the best salon to which I’ve ever been, both in and out of Manhattan, and I hope D&L stays a part of our community for a long, long time!

I was coloring my own hair for about one year, and the result was hair that was too dark, color that was flat and dull. I made an appointment with Cindy, who took such care and time discussing my color and what we could achieve. I love my hair color now, it’s shiny and exactly what I envisioned. Cindy is a breath of fresh air in her expertise as a colorist and stylist. The salon is the best find in Forest Hills, offering top notch services with elegance and highly professional friendly staff.

I gave Anotoli a rather glowing review in February and when I returned for a second cut, his demeaner and attitude were appauling. I made an appointment for a Thursday with Anotoli only to be called wednesday night and advised he would not be in thursday and could I move it to Friday. Thursday I received a call that there was a mistake and I needed to move my appointment to Saturday. I advised them that I needed to leave the city at 11AM on Saturday and they gave me the 9AM appointment. I arrived a few minutes before opening time at 9AM and waited until 9:15 when Anotoli finally came in. At 9:20, he called for me, and we quickly learned he also had a 9:30 there waiting. I could not reschedule again and the nice man who had the 9:30 offered to come back. This was not until AFTER Anotoli stopped off in a diva-like act and demanded to know why the receptionist squeezed so many appointments so close. Anotoli did not even recognizing me. He advised that he had been out sick with the flu and would not be able to chit chat, which was fine since it was early in the morning. After I said I wanted the exact same cut as last time, he went to work, quickly and rather rushed. He very hastilly ripped through my hair with a comb and cut without clipping the layers up. I did speak up once just to ask if he knew about the glowing review I left him on Unilocal and he said: he did not read it but a friend told him it was there. Not even a thank you! My hair cut was awful this time– Instead of keeping the long layers in the back, he chopped off 3−4″ and made the length into a blunt straight across cut. He chopped my bangs into a strange upside down V shape where the part above my nose was atleast 2 inches too short and the sides were long. I asked him to fix it and he got very rude saying it was straight. Clearly his cold was interfearing with his perception of straight. I walked out upset and he knew it. I still paid the $ 65 for the cut and tipped him $ 12. A week later I returned to have my bangs straightened because I could not stand them any longer. Anotoli was there and refused to come out of the employee room. I was told he’d be right there and after the receptionist went to advise him I was there, she came back and said he was in the break room and it would be a little while. I waited 15 minutes and finally asked if someone else could fix my bangs. A woman named Priscilla I believe attempted to straighten them and thin them out, but they were still so short above my nose there was nothign she could do. I left there and went to get hair extensions in my bangs! I will not be returning!

I’ve had good experiences myself here, and I started bringing my daughter to see Virginia a few years ago. Virginia is great — patient and friendly — and always gives my daughter a great cut. It’s a little on the pricey side, but I’m happy to take her here because a cut lasts months, it’s so well done.

I was a little hesitant to go to this salon at first because of the negative review and it looked expensive. I expected the staff to be unwelcoming but when I came in to inquire about their services, the receptionist or manager was very welcoming and patient with answering all my questions. I called to make a reservation with Rosa for a wax based on a previous reviewer’s recommendations and they were nice. When I finally came in for my appointment, Rosa was super cool. I felt embarrassed at first but I soon felt comfortable as Rosa was very chatty and took my mind off things. She was very professional and super good at her job. I was done in like 15 minutes. The place is clean and well-maintained. I went back after a month and had the good same experience. I had to change my appointment one time but they didnt give me any problems. So I would highly recommend it for a wax. not sure about their other services. I only give it a 4-star because it is pricier than most.

Because I use this salon solely for its waxing services, I cannot speak to how well they do the hair on your head. Now, as far as the hair elsewhere, I have been more than satisfied. I visit Rosa, and Rosa only, for a Brazilian wax every 3 – 4 weeks. She is great! She does fast, efficient work, and it’s not too painful once you get used to it. Plus, she is extremely friendly and easy to talk to, despite the high potential for awkwardness. My experience with the salon itself has also been positive. The receptionist is always friendly and the rest of the staff always seem happy. I never have to call more than a day in advance to make an appointment, and I have made same-day appointments on a number of occasions. Overall, I am always satisfied with my experience and the results, and so is my boyfriend ;-).

Seriously, this salon doesn’t even deserve 1 star. The minute I walked in I received the most unwelcoming greeting with an uncomfortable stare down by the entire staff, ESPECIALLY the manager. I had to repeat myself several times as to how i wanted my hair done as if the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and even 5th time were any different from the 1st description. They marked up the price after giving me a specific price the 1st time I enquired in person. That’s not even the worse part, the manager for some reason kept pulling my asst. hair dresser aside for small conference talks, which was VERY ANNOYINg! Finally i got up to ask where they put my coat cause i had just about enough of the B.S. i was dealing with and before i could say anything the manager walks over to me and says that she’s going to have to cancel the appt. because«I’M BEINGTOOPICKY!» Manager should educate herself with a few courses in business ethics for the sake of her rude unprofessional what she considers«business». Don’t bother wasting your time with this salon, unless you like feeling that as the customer the business is doing you the favor in giving their service.
