The staff of the A Step Ahead Foot and Ankle Centers are dedicated to providing excellence in foot & ankle health care. Our new facilities have been designed to provide you with the utmost in comfort and convenience. The A Step Ahead Foot & Ankle Centers utilizes in-​house x-​ray services, eliminating the extra expense and inconvenience of having to send you elsewhere for these diagnostic services.

A doctor of Podiatric Medicine is trained to treat all ailments of the foot, ankle and lower leg. This includes:

Flat feet, high arches, heel pain, bunions and hammertoes.

Ankle sprains, fractures and chronic pain.

Nail problems including fungal infections, ingrown nails and thickened nails.

Infant deformities such as club foot, flat feet, intoeing and other congenital deformities.

Sports injuries and prevention.

Nerve problems such as neuromas, peripheral neuropathy and nerve entrapments.

Skin problems like athlete’s foot and other dermatoses.

Established in 1979.

We currently have three doctors who have over 60 years combined of podiatric training. We have two offices, one in Fort Collins and one in Loveland, and state of the art equipment such as electronic medical records and digital x-​ray machines.

Meet the Manager

Jack B.

Manager

Jack moved to Fort Collins over 20 years ago from Los Angeles, CA. He joined the practice in 1988 and has been with A Step Ahead Foot & Ankle Center ever since.

Along with being in charge of the daily operations of the practice, Jack handles the accounting for the corporation along with the company website and any IT work that may arise.

Jack enjoys golf and various other outdoor activities with his wife and their dog, Benson. His 14 grandchildren also keep him busy and broke.

Personally, I think Dr. Johnson is awesome. Unfortunately the staff is rude and horrible. I waited FOUR MONTHS for a pre-​approval for orthotics, which was never even submitted! First, they forgot to order them, then they claimed they were ordered but never were. They straight up told me they were waiting for the approval when they had not even submitted the paperwork for the approval yet!!! When I called to see if there was any news they told me, oh it takes a long time. Today, I get a call from their office telling me that they never even put in the paperwork to request the preauthorization because, and I quote from the vm message «it’s too much hassle» working with my insurance provider, but I could pay cash or use Care Credit (@ 30% interest)!! They would have been free to me, now, I have changed insurance providers and they will cost me $ 500. I have spent at least 6 months in almost unbearable pain (as anyone who has ever had plantar facitis understands), waiting for what is effectively the only effective treatment, and now find out that the staff over there couldn’t be bothered to submit some paperwork. If they were too lazy or unskilled to submit the paperwork they should have told me from the outset and I could have found another provider that wasn’t. This was unethical, unprofessional, and unconscionable conduct from any medical treatment facility.

Beware these con artists. I saw a Dr. Kate Johnson. They have a bio on their site that makes her seem like an experienced expert. She was inexperienced and clueless. She said «wow, I don’t know, gee, I just don’t know» a dozen times, put some tape on my foot, sent me out the door, the entire appointment took 15 minutes. She did not address the reason I booked the appointment (long term care/​solution) and opted for I don’t know/​tape/​out the door. For this, these scammers charged me a $ 35 co-​pay, another $ 97 from my insurance company and are now sending me threatening collection notices for another $ 73. ANOTHER $ 73? For what?! They didn’t do ANYTHING to help me. Even Dr. O’Halloran, the most overworked podiatrist in Fort Collins, put more effort into helping me — and my co-​pay/​insurance covered it. These people are lazy and just out to milk you and your insurance.

I just went in to see Dr. Knutson. He is friendly, funny, and knows his art thoroughly. He gave me expert advice on a subject I thought I had heard all about– plantar fasciitis. I walked out with less pain and more hope! I also got a cortisone shot. I was dreading it, but his expert technique was nearly painless. Excellent care all around! My kids go here too, so no worries if you are looking for an expert podiatrist.

This place is great~! Dr. Schulte is the doctor that did my foot surgery. From the moment I walked into the office I felt really comfortable there. All the staff are super nice to me and my two yr old (who has to come in with me at times, and he is busy =) And they watch him for me while I get x-​rays.) Just a nice, clean place with great people! I would for sure recommend this place to anyone that has a need for a foot doc. BTW: My surgery went very well! Almost zero pain and they called to check on me often.
