History

Established in 2006.

In 2001, Finnie moved to Boulder and began studying under Professor Amal Easton, a Renzo Gracie black belt. From there, he managed the Easton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Boulder for three years while competing and training in BJJ and MMA, earning first place at the 2001 American International championships. McMahon’s success culminated at the 2009 Pan American championships where he won the gold medal in the Brown Belt division and was awarded his Black Belt on the podium by Professor Amal Easton.

Tessa McMahon began her search for the most realistic form of self-defense as a senior at CU in 2001. She found it at Easton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Boulder, where she quickly flourished in the art of BJJ and was the first American woman to win the Pan-American gold medal for two consecutive years and was ranked the #1 female in her weight class in 2005.

In 2004, Finnie and Tessa were married, and two years later, decided to dedicate their lives to BJJ through opening McMahon BJJ academy.
