Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies

My visit to Dr. Trumper was the worst visit I’ve ever had to an orthopedist (and I’ve had several). His office was running 45-​minutes behind, and by the time I saw him he could not have cared less about my injury. His PA examined me (and was very nice), but Dr. Trumper didn’t so much as look at my knee before telling me that my injury was unfixable, and that I would just have to live with this injury the rest of my life. He literally shrugged and told me I was out of luck – there was no treatment or testing whatsoever that would help me. I saw another orthopedist at Colorado University THE NEXT DAY who looked at the same film, saw a possible problem, and has scheduled me for further testing and procedures. Dr. Trumper didn’t care at all, and I do not recommend him to anyone. Go check out Colorado University – they will actually try to help you.

Dr. Rocci Trumper is the best. Honest, knowledgeable with a great bedside manner. I recommend coming to him with anything having to do with your knees.

As many of the reviewers have said, the phone receptionist isn’t the friendliest person in the world, but the rest of the staff has been wonderful. Kim in MRI scheduling was fantastically helpful and Michael (Dr. Trumper’s PA) was exceptionally knowledgeable. I’ve worked in medical offices before so I know how stressful they can be, but having a grouchy phone receptionist is probably not a smart financial move for OSCR. Maybe something for them to consider!

Not impressed with the office or the Dr’s p.a. very unprofessional but dr. & facility are great. Staff was more concerned about them self than the patients. Couch & chairs are super uncomfortable.

My husband had Alder Nerve surgery done by the ortho center and 2 years later he is NO better. We went back and the doctor told us just to wait longer, but we can’t, he is miserable with tingeing and numbness in his hand. They have no other suggestions whatsoever on the next step, we had to ask for PT and be our own advocates. So far the PT is not working and we’re wondering if he had surgery for the wrong reason?
On another note, our daughter went in for scoliosis and they said to wait until she was done growing and hopefully it wouldn’t get worse in the meantime. Again, didn’t recommend any therapy or tell us about the Spine Correction Center on the other side of town. If we had listened, she would be in a brace facing surgery. Awful.
The Physical Therapy is in the same building, yet you have to ask for them to refer you.

Years ago it was excellent care; good employees, docs actually took time consulting and explaining. Recently though, two words to describe it are: Money vacuum. They won’t talk to you unless you buy an office visit. Do not expect any phone call returned or any sort of follow up unless you buy another office visit. Do not expect to spend more than 5 minutes with the physician who likely will rush through the exam and then will start selling surgeries to you. If you want more information you’ll need another office visit. It’s only comprehensive care when you can hemorrhage lots and lots of money and time. No one is terribly interested in your pain or rehabilitating you unless it involves surgery. After surgery you’re pretty much on your own. Would not use in house PT dept. as I had not so good results due to the fact there isn’t much focus in healing or rehab at this practice. Most of the employees are friendly. The surgeons are friendly but seem rushed or bored. They are very good at billing insurance. Big business health care money maker, I imagine they spend more time and energy with their shareholders than their patients. So sad, it used to be excellent.

While I was in Fort Collins, I sought help from OCR for a minor problem I was having with my cast, and I felt the staff could have been more helpful. I was told I needed to wait a few days for a full evaluation with a surgeon before the cast team could take a look and troubleshoot the cast. All I needed was for them to check a pressure point. My orthopedic surgeon was even willing to call them and explain the situation. When I called the office manager back to discuss, the number I was given was disconnected. This was frustrating.
For a few bucks, I was able to see a local orthotist that day who fixed the problem with some foam padding.
I am not sure how good their orthopedic surgeons are, but I was a bit put-​off on how unhelpful the clinic was when I needed help.

Completely inconsistent. The nursing staff for Dr. Anderson is either overworked or needs to pay more attention to detail. You have to go in prepared to advocate for yourself and make sure that you leave with what the doctor prescribed or is going to give you. I left one voicemail that was never returned. I had to ask for exercises that the doctor said he was going to give me. I left another voicemail the following week, letting them know that I was not going to have something done only to receive a voicemail 3 hours later letting me know that she had scheduled my appointment. This was also 3 days after my initial visit which leads me to believe that she forgot and then didn’t even listen to my call but instead went ahead with what she forgot to do in the first place. I have seen 2 different doctors here and they are hard to get into and are very rushed with you. You have to be direct at asking questions and make sure they sit and listen to you. The PT staff I had from this facility actually made my condition worse and offered no support or help so I had already paid for 8 sessions of PT only to be left to find another solution to fix my injury.

I have mixed feelings about this place and I will list both…
The good: Rocci Trumper (Orthopedic Surgeon). I have had seven (7) ACL repairs and Rocci is as good as they come. If you don’t like Rocci’s personality, you may need your head examined. He is easy to talk with, doesn’t come across as you are lucky to be having HIM look at your injury and more than anything he takes the necessary time to ensure you are diagnosed correctly. I have had my share of Orthopedic Surgeons, and yes… they make more $ when they do more surgeries — but what business DOESNT? Would you rather have the Surgeon who does Colonoscopy repairs normally but since its «your knee/​ankle/​shoulder» it will only cost $ 99. I would rather have the male or female MD who does this all day everyday. So from an MD standpoint, I would certainly use Dr Trumper again.
The Bad: The receptionist is a wreck. Tuesday I called and asked for medical records — left a message for a return call. I suddenly felt like I was dealing with AT&T again because that «we will call you back» never happened. OK… not that big of a deal and that department has always been very kind. Today (48hrs later) I call again and ask to be transferred to the records dept. Receptionist says «She is out but she will just call you back». I chucked and replied «um-that’s not accurate bc I left a vm 2 days ago».
*click* (insert dial tone here)
–I called back (now I am getting annoyed but hoping (for her case) what I think happened didn’t just happen. I call, she answers.
Me: «I’m sorry, did you just hang up on me?»
Girl who hates job, or boss. Or both: «possibly, How can I help you?»
Me: «First off, can I get your name please and second, please send me over to the medical records dept.»
Girl who hates job… or boss… or both: (mumbles «whatever»)
*click* (yes — I am fairly certain hell DID just freeze over) That’s the 2^nd hang up. (And BCBS has spent over $ 200,000.00 at this facility for me alone… I wonder what THEY would think of this?)
Me: AKA: glutton for punishment
I call back 3 more times, she will not answer at all. Rings and rings and rings and rings. Eventually it just answers and hangs up. (which means she is answering and hanging up). Which ALSO means she has caller ID.
Management: If you wish to see who was working the receptionist area at those times, my area code is 713 (Texas).
Sadly, I really respect Dr Trumper. I am ok with people having bad days — I am not ok with blatant disrespect. Albeit 3x.

I actually liked Dr. Rocci Trumper on first visit; however, my experience with Orthopaedic and Spine Center of the Rockies has been awful. I left my first knee surgeon for various reasons but especially because of his callous office staff. I had a bone scan ordered by Dr. Trumper and as I tried to contact the his office to find out my results I not only got the phone tag run around, but I also got the self-​important, pretentious appointment jockey who left me in phone loop hell for twenty minutes. When I asked her to not send me back through the loop for another round because I had been on hold my entire lunch break, she had the audacity to snarkily chortle at me that it had not been twenty minutes. I may not be very smart, but my phone does keep track of the minutes. To her chortling, I snappishly replied «fine, I’ll find another doc.» she said, «you do that» and then I promptly hung up the phone.
To me, the specialist support staff, especially the receptionists, are a breed in and of themselves separate from all other human forms of life and occupation, singularly alone in the world, detached from every type of pleasantness. They are simply put, mortuary cold without any semblance humor unless it is to mock patients. My experience with the staff made me feel as though they were looking down their noses on me as if I were more of an impediment to their lives rather than the conveyance by which they are employed.

The worst medical experience of my life. They drew blood, then called me the next day to say I needed to come back for another poke because they forgot to fill a vial. Two weeks go by before I call them to get results. «Oh, we didn’t call you? Whoops. I think everything is fine, just take Aleve everyday for the rest of your life.» Wow, thank you for nothing. Still in pain.

Are you looking for doctors and nurses and staff that care? Well then you probably shouldn’t go to the Orthopaedic Center of the Rockies.
I broke my foot about 5 weeks ago and was referred to the OCR by the doctor at the urgent care center. My break occurred on a Saturday and when I called OCR on Monday they were able to get me in the very next day, I thought this was nice. Well come to find out there are like 27 doctors there and Fort Collins isn’t that big so of course they were able to see me the next day!
Here is how I felt about my visit:
Hurry, hurry, hurry get this girl in and out of here as fast as humanly possible — but go ahead and forget about her for a little while when you stick her in the room in back though, that’s ok.
Why the hell is everyone so pissed off here — is there something I should know? You didn’t like amputate a wrong limb today or something did you!!!
Why didn’t I get a private room to have my doctors visit? Why did you place me in a room with 4 other people (2 adults and 2 children)? Is this a HIPPA violation? Should I be listening to all of this persons medical history, treatment, and diagnosis?
Why is this angry nurse walking so fast? I am on crutches for only the second day you twit!
Am I invisible? Can’t they see me sitting here? Do they know I am a patient? Wow, you really shouldn’t bitch about your job and staff where the customer can hear you, yeah, and I am pretty sure you are physicians.
Am I inconveniencing you? Really I can go.
Hey, doc, nice to meet you too? Oh wait you didn’t even introduce yourself, oh, that makes me feel so special.
Oh, no don’t worry about it, I don’t need any information about what is going on with my broken body part.
We’ll see if it needs surgery later!!! Wait, WHAT? More information please. I know it is not your foot so it is not really important to you but it is my foot and it is very important to me!
Ok, bye, see ya later, make an appointment in two weeks, we’ll take more of your money then and not care about you some more. Yeah, freakin’ right I won’t!
Seriously they could at least act like they care — I felt like a non-​human in this place. Just a faceless, soulless body that they were forced to take through the motions. I have been to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, a huge, massive establishment and I received the best care of my life — so it has nothing to do with the size of OCR it has to do with the quality of employees. I had to give them two stars because at least they didn’t hurt me or make my foot worse, hell it was already broken!
Really as a society we have to stop accepting medical care like this. It is not like it costs a dollar! We don’t put up with customer service like this at other establishments so why would it be acceptable for health care!
