Rocky Mountain Raptor Program

RMRP and it’s staff /​volunteers are absolutely amazing. I have been part of this non-​profit rehabilitation program for five years now. Rocky Mountain Raptor Program currently operates at two facilities. The main raptor rehabilitation center and hospital is located at 720B East Vine Drive in Fort Collins Colorado. Although this facility is not open to the public, tours are available for a small fee. You may visit the ELC (Environmental Learning Center) located off of Environmental drive, found at Drake and Ziegler. Some of the Educational Embassadors live at this location full time, including the BAEA (Bald Eagle). Be sure to stop by the ELC during daylight hours. You will be glad that you did.
RMRP does host multiple open houses throughout the year, and there you will learn everything that you have ever wanted to learn about Raptors (and no, not the dinosaurs!). For instance, did you know that the AMKE (American Kestrel) is the smallest Falcon found in North America… and the males are even Broncos colors! Once you see one, you will notice just how many there are in Colorado.
RMRP rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured birds of prey, including Eagles, Owls, Hawks and Falcons; and through its comprehensive Environmental Education program, teaches the importance of preserving wildlife and wild places for future generations.

An outstanding organization started in 1987 that treats and releases hawks, owls, and even eagles back into the wild. Their release rate has gone from 50% to 88% by 2010. Volunteers are taught classes on multiple topics related to bird anatomy, physiology, nutrition, bandaging, and wound care. Birds that cannot be returned to the wild become part of the public education program.
