History
Established in 1982.
The Fig Leaf began life as a fabric store specializing in quality dress fabrics in 1982. The shop is owned by Laura Shotwell and her family. After opening the shop, The Fig Leaf’s quilting inventory grew at a rapid rate, and within 5 years was the bread and butter of The Fig Leaf. The dress fabric inventory was closed out and replaced with even more cotton fabric.
Today, The Fig Leaf offers approximately 5,000 bolts of quilting cottons, including flannels and batiks, baby and kids fabric, the latest quilting books and patterns, a full selection of notions, and Brother sewing machines. If you are new to the area or traveling through the area and want to stop in and see us, you will find a furniture store attached to the quilt shop. Have fun browsing or shopping, or find a comfortable sofa or recliner and relax while you wait!
Meet the Business Owner
Laura S.
Business Owner
The shop is owned by Laura Shotwell and her family. At the time the store opened, Laura was a dress maker, not a quilter. She was newly graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Textiles and Clothing, and had one quilting class under her belt. Being a quick learner however, her quilting inventory grew at a rapid rate, and within 5 years was the bread and butter of The Fig Leaf. The dress fabric inventory was closed out and replaced with even more cotton fabric.
