History
Established in 1947.
Built by Joanna Taylor, Jo’s Motel has been serving visitors to Crater Lake and the Wood River Valley since just after WWII. In 2003, Robin Hurt and Jim VanGrinsven began their project to save the property following many years of neglect by previous owners.
Leaving the original knotty pine, windows, and doors intact, they repaired it from the ground up — new foundation, plumbing, electrical, siding, kitchens, and bathrooms. They used plant-based finishes, marmoleum, porcelain, and other quality non-toxic materials throughout. In 2006 the store and deli in the motel/campground office reopened with an ever-expanding offering of organic groceries, wine and beer, and prepared foods.
