The Barkan Method of Hot Yoga is the most popular Hot Vinyasa Yoga studio in all of South Florida. Jimmy Barkan, and the other Barkan Method instructors, combine the physical challenges and mental benefits of yoga in a way that is inviting to the beginner while also satisfying for an advanced yoga student.
History
Established in 1983.
The Barkan Method is a style of Hatha Yoga that originated from a lineage in Calcutta, India. The Barkan Method finds its roots from this lineage in Calcutta, but also integrates postures from other styles of Yoga to create variations and even greater range of motion. The yoga classes are practiced in a heated room to stretch and strengthen various areas of the body. The practice brings vital balance and restores all systems to optimal health. Consistency will create a physical, mental and spiritual harmony that will be felt in all areas of the practitioner’s life.

The nation’s première Hot Yoga teacher finds his roots in the tradition of Bishnu Gosh, the innovator in Hot Yoga and Bikram Choudhury, who brought this style of Yoga to the United States. Bikram taught Jimmy Barkan in California in the early 80’s and considered him one of his most senior teachers.
Jimmy has been teaching Hot Yoga since 1981 and opened his first South Florida Yoga Studio in 1983. His core teaching stems from his lineage in Calcutta, however James incorporates various postures from different styles of Hatha Yoga. The Barkan Method Hot Yoga and Hot Vinyasa sequences, set in the tradition of Tantra Yoga, continue to change and evolve as Jimmy unceasingly explores the Yoga Path in his personal practice and life. Barkan became a disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda in 1983 and continues to practice the ancient technique of Kriya Yoga.
Jimmy Barkan’s unique style of teaching encourages students of all levels to reach their full potential.
