Mathnasium instructors use our unique assessment process to determine (with great accuracy) exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, we design a customized learning plan for teaching the concepts the student needs to master. It doesn’t stop there — our encouraging instructors continually check progress along the way to make sure kids truly understand and retain the concepts we’ve taught. The results are transformative — kids will see measurable changes in attitude, confidence, and school progress.

History

Established in 2014.

Ruby and Benedict, the owners, are deeply committed to the community of Fort Lee and surrounding towns, having lived here for over 35 years, raising our children in Fort Lee’s public school, and teaching in the area. We are dedicated to bringing the best math learning system to this wonderful community.

We looked at several approaches to achieving this goal and after much researched, we discovered Mathnasium and never looked back. Mathnasium’s curriculum was started over 40 years ago by math educator, Larry Martinek, to find a better way to teach children math. As a classroom teacher, teacher-​trainer, and consultant in public and top private schools, Larry possessed a uniquely comprehensive view of education.

He painstakingly developed and assembled a blend of methods and materials. Instead of relying on traditional rote memorization and repetitive exercises, his work focuses on helping children understand math by honing their instincts and getting them to think like mathematicians.

Meet the Business Owner

Ruby Y.

Business Owner

Has a Bachelor’s of Economics from Rutgers University, and a Masters of Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickenson University. Ms. Yao holds a New Jersey Department of Education teacher’s certificate (K-​12), and is also a member of staff at Fairleigh Dickenson University. After nine years of working in the AT&T Bell Labs Finance department and subsequently at AT&T Headquarters, Ms. Yao left to raise her young family. While working with her two children and teaching in the public school system, Ms. Yao learned that children have individual needs and learn in different ways; and that teachers do not have the resources to cater to all children individually. Growing up in the East and educated in America, Ms. Yao wants to combine the best teaching methods from both Eastern and Western cultures — and teach children math the way it makes sense to them — the Mathnasium way of individualized curriculum and guidance.
