Strictly Bicycles

I have been to Strictly many times over the years of cycling past on my way back to the GW Bridge. This shop is a regular stopping point for cyclists out on their ride. The great thing about this shop is that they are friendly to everyone that comes in, whether you are buying a $ 10K bike or just want to use the bathroom. That is great customer service as the guy who one day uses the bathroom may come back in for a bike and then come back again and again for service.
I purchased only a few odds and ends and had some minor mid-​ride services done here, but the staff here has always been good and they do a great job fixing little tweaks on my bike. That said, they have an amazing selection of bikes.
My most memorable experience here was over the winter, when I was out on a ride and a snow storm rolled into town early. I was soaked and cold and pulled into Strictly. They were very accommodating. I bought new socks and one of the mechanics drove my back to my apartment in Manhattan on his way home from the shop. These guys are great.

Conveniently placed bike shop on the way to Piermont/​Nyack.
The bike shop staff is available, and the coffee shop staff is always ready to fill your bottle with water which is very appreciated.
Unfortunately most of the bike equipment is expensive. I bought some bike tubes because I had a flat on the way bike home and it was way over an acceptable price, losing one star for that.

Do not shop at this store!!! I visited this shop on two occasions and not one representative ever said one word to me. So on the first occasion it was the weekend and it was busy. So I thought to myself OK I’ll give them some time… My roommate and I literally stood around for over 45 minutes perusing the selection and purposefully seeming very interested in making a purchase. Because guess what? My roommate intended on buying a bike that day! So this went on for 45 minutes and we finally gave up and left. We were not acknowledged. A few weeks later against my better judgement I returned. This time I was looking to get sized for a bike. Now on this day (Monday) the place was completely dead. 4 employees and 1 customer not including me. So I figure cool I’ll definitely get service this time, boy was I mistaken. I was not acknowledged when entered and walked in past three employees. Again I made sure to seem very interested in buying a bike (feeling the weight sitting on them etc.) One employee was helping the guy that was already in there and the other three were doing absolutely nothing. This went on for about 20 minutes and again I gave up. What really irritated me was that on the way out one of the guys was chatting it up with what seemed to be his buddy that arrived while I was there. They were standing in the doorway. I walked right up behind them and made sure my presence was known. I expected him to slide over but nope he just kept on chatting. «Dude! You’re in a doorway!» So finally I said excuse me and he managed to move like 5 inches to the right. I basically had to turn sideways and squeeze out between them. Again during all of this time on both visits I was never acknowledged once. I highly recommend not visiting this bike shop.

This place is everything I wanted in a bike store and more. I just found them by chance on my 53-​mile ride from West Village to Piermont and back. My seat was too high –after a very expensive bike fitting from a store in Manhattan– and it was killing me on this fairly long ride.
I went in and they were really friendly and knowledgeable and adjusted it to the perfect height. I have been in lot of bike stores and this place has a great selection. Definitely worth the stop on the way to Nyack or Piermont or anywhere. Good selection of bike nutrition, bike clothes and a much better job of bike fitting. Friendly.

Bought a Cevelo last Fall, have been happy as a clam since getting it. The people who work here are fine, Nelson, is terrific. Understand that if you come here on a Sunday or Saturday, it is the busiest shop in Northern New Jersey and you may have make it clear you want help and not just bask in the reflections coming from one of the best inventories of high end bicycles in the Metro area.
A lot of us come here to relax after a long ride and so there is a lot going on. But make it clear you need help and you will get it, even if its only to purchase some minor item.
As for shopping, there is a wide range of prices to fit most categories and the equipment here is of a high quality.
So I recently brought in a 24 year bicycle (the one I gave my son for his YMCA ride out West) and now use for riding to work in the Bronx. I asked about repairing it and whether it was worth it (I know it probably isn’t). Of course Nelson would have preferred to sell me an inexpensive Hybrid (and he’s probably right) but I am into sustainability. So its in the shop. And I know I will be happy for a while. And then I’ll kick myself for not buying the new one.
But that is life and guess what — at least I can pass it on to someone else when the new one arrives.

We have been to Strictly Bicycles several times.
Our first time was two years ago when we first purchased our bikes. As much as we would have liked to have purchased a pair of Cervelos from them, it wasn’t in the cards for us. We showed up at the shop with two bikes, in boxes, purchased online, looking for someone to put them together for us. We were treated with the same care and respect as someone who just purchased a high end road bike at the shop. They had our bikes set up for us quickly, and at a very competitive price. The sales guy was nice as could be, and even gave us some tips on securing the bikes to the car and where to ride. On the way out he told us that if anything needed adjustment just swing on by.
Fast forward two years, a few stops in the shop, and to this past weekend.
We had put god knows how many miles on the bikes, and were way past the point needing a tune up. A few experimental adjustments at home didn’t help their state, they were coated in dirt and some dried worms, and there was some mysterious rattling from one.
We scheduled a tune up, packed up the bikes and went to the shop. Nelson, who we found out after we left is the owner, greeted us. We told him what we wanted done, he gave us a very competitive price, and gave us huge leeway on pickup. Although the bikes would be done on Monday, we couldn’t come until the following Saturday and it was no issue.
We picked them up on Saturday and they were like new. We talked briefly with Nelson about local riding and he filled us in on, and invited us to join in on some local group rides, and encouraged looking into a Fondo and other long distance rides. It was a really nice experience, and got us even more excited about riding. On the way out the same thing, he reminded us that all the work is guaranteed, and if any issue arises just to swing by.
In short, we left the shop with no sticker shock, receiving great service, and more excited to ride than when we came in.
If you are in the area and need work done, do stop by. It couldn’t be a nicer place with nicer people.

Strictly Bicycles is an excellent bike store that provides year round support to avid cyclists looking for a place to rest (or avoid the weather). Whether you going to look at the Ferraris of bicycles or just want an espresso — this is your place.

After more than 10 years cycling in Barcelona, Miami, New York and San Francisco, I can say without reservation that Strictly is the best shop for road cycling I am aware of anywhere. They carry the best gear and they know their sh! t. The owner (Nelson) is awesome– knows his gear, shoots straight.

UPDATE: Recently Nelson contacted me about the mechanical issues and we had a really good discussion about it. I was really impressed with his follow up, other businesses would of ignored the issue. Great customer service all around.

The guys at Strictly are the best. Whenever I ride over the GWB from Brooklyn, Strictly is a stop on the way back. They have the best gear, espresso, fuel, and clean bathrooms. These guys have done quick fixes to save more than one ride, when I’ve had a mechanical, which my local Brooklyn shop would have taken days to fix. Also, more than once, they’ve done small fixes for me FOR FREE. These guys are really thinking long term, and big picture. They are a valuable part of the NYC/​Jersey cycling community. And if you are ready to make a big purchase — they have the big guns in stock (Pinarello, Colnago, etc.).

I purchased a Trek Madone five years earlier from a mom & pop shop with a great special and a lousy bike fit. I was a «newbie» and didn’t know much about the sport. I rode in pain but thought it was just natural. I made my own little tweaks over time. After a horrendously painful 50 mile ride, I was going to purchase my 3^rd saddle in a year. I stopped in to Strictly on the way back and finally decided to spend the money for a thorough fit. Paul asked me a few questions and strongly recommended a bike fit, as did my friends and just about every magazine.
Paul was very thorough and explained each adjustment. He didn’t just change things up and send me on my way, his explanations made me feel good about the investment right off the bat. Furthermore, he saved me money on yet another saddle which was not the problem. I have been riding for two months now and the pain is gone aside from the usual huffing and puffing on those steep hills.
Paul did an excellent job.

This is by far the best bike shop in the Bergen County, Nelson and Max are really nice and they helped me a lot. Without them there wouldn’t be a strictly bicycles. Trust me, buy your bicycle there!

Excellent bike store. Nelson does know how to run this place. Got a Cervélo P2 and fitted by Paul (included with the purchase and a must for any serious cyclist). Great detail orientation, good customer service, overall a very good shopping experience.
Any triathlete in NJ or NY should get their bike here. As for the price: Yes, is a high end store, but they also got deals on previous years models, and at the end of the day, this is not a cheap sport.

Love this place! I started out as your typical clumsy cyclist — yes, one that couldn’t clip into their pedals and made matchy-​matchy spandex-​clad cyclists rear like cats at my baby bike handling skills. Hey now, we all started somewhere ;) Started going to SB because of the location right off the GWB.
The staff here is great. Reading some of the reviews, people were griping about how they felt they weren’t given enough attention. To be honest, I think it’s a matter of perspective — I’ve never felt pressured or as though I’m wasting the staff’s time, like I have in other Manhattan shops. Just ask questions, be patient (it’s busy /​popular for a reason), and don’t be rude — some cyclists take themselves waaayy too seriously. SB has helped me w everything — from basic nutrition, to a bent wheel /​busted derailler before my first trip to Bear and my first carbon road bike. SB has always treated me the same — even when I’m honestly just stopping to use the bathroom. If only they had a dollar for every flush!
Nelson, Joanna and their team are well-​respected and well-​liked in a very picky cyclist community. You can see that the staff here is knowledgeable and have been here for quite some time — that’s a testament to this place.
I can’t comment on other cyclist needs (hybrids, foldable bikes, etc) since that’s not my thing. But, if you need anything for a road /​tri bike or are just passing through, I encourage you to come in and check it out for yourself.
Am always happy to give my business to SB and only wish it was closer.

I have known Nelson before he had the new store. I purchased my first road bike from him and I have never regretted it. He and his team have always provided me with excellent service and products.

Not my favorite bike shop. I have visited this shop a number of times in hopes that my opinion would change, but after numerous visits over the course of the past year my experiences have remained the same — poor poor service.
I first came here about a year ago when I moved to the area and need a new road bike. I came in looking and ready to buy a bike and was offered little to no help. I was just told that the bikes are upstairs and I could look around. The bike selection itself was okay, not exactly what I’m used to seeing in bike shops in San Francisco but it wasn’t horrible — I imagine that they can put in an order for any bike too but it’s nice to be able to see/​test out as many bikes as possible. After receiving inattentive service (basically no service), I decided to take my search elsewhere and ended up buying a great bike at Grove Street Bicycles in Jersey City — great prices, better service and 3.5% tax!
My other visits were during bike rides up to Palisades Park/​9W. I’ve stopped in here for random needs while on a ride and also at the end of a ride just looking around for gear or other items for the bike. Every time I have come in the service has been lacking, either no one is there to help me or when I ask for help they seem bothered and often times don’t know or don’t have the item I am looking for. The times I have found what I wanted and gone to checkout, it has been a slow and painful process as they employees act like I am inconveniencing them when I need to checkout — and afterwards, no thank yous or anything. Just not friendly service and pretty snobby place overall.
The parking lot of the shop does have a nice area for cyclists to stop and hang out, while I haven’t really taken advantage of that area, every time I pass by it looks like many people do enjoy it and I would say this is the best part of the shop.
I had high hopes for this bike shop and wanted to like it but it has been a disappointment. My advice — take your business elsewhere — there are so many more bike shops around that would be more appreciative of your business!

Simply put, this place is a cyclists heaven. Honestly, I’m a triathlete so when I want more knowledge, more gear, this is the place I want to stock up. If you are up and down 9w, this place is an oasis.
This is the north east Mecca for cycling. Everyone meets here. Nelson and Maxiim are awesome guys.

This is a nice shop and if your riding over the GWB it’s in the great location.
There is sitting outside and I have always seen people chilling there when I ride by.
There is also a small café bar in side if you need coffee and or a pastry.
They have tons of high-​end road stuff including the best clothing in the world Assos.
The prices are what you would expect and if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

If your a roadie and are all into carbon fiber high end road bikes this is the place for you. A staple for all the training rides up 9W or through eastern NJ and up to Piermont, Nyack, and Bear Mountain. Strictly offers the right casual space in the summers where there is a outdoor patio area for cyclists to rest and chill out before continuing in on their ride. Free water is set up as well outside. Love just rocking back in the rocking patio chairs after a hard training ride.
It’s a pricey shop for service and items but they do a good job at servicing and have a decent selection of items. You’ll find high end Pinarello bikes here which is a plush since you hardly see shops carry these in the metropolitan area. Has a great lil café for coffee and a quick pastry. Throughout the season you’ll even find bike clinics or other bike demoes taking place in their parking lot.
I wouldn’t stop by if your looking for a commuter bike though. A great place to hang out during a training ride or a bathroom break and also great for emergency servicing or on purchasing a high end bike.
