History

Established in 1978.

Sun Deck was launched in order to provide Fort Myers with a rooftop beachfront restaurant for travelers, vacation goers and local residents to enjoy. Opened early at 8am to serve breakfast overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and closing long after Fort Myers Beach sunsets, Sun Deck offers a wide variety of great food and fun! Live entertainment during happy hour 4pm-​7pm provides a live entertainment venue prior to enjoying a fantastic dinner on the ocean during sunset. Our lunch is filled with excellent beach fare and cocktails to help beat the mid day sun. Visit us on the 6th floor of the Lani Kai Island Resort and enjoy the beach!

Chef Pedro’s Italian/​Asian/​Hispanic culinary background is evident in the restaurant’s new design and menu. It features a fresh take on Italian-​American cooking, utilizing fresh seafood from the Gulf, as well as made-​from-​scratch recipes that have been passed down through years of experience managing restaurants on Fort Myers Beach, including Sun Deck and the new Sabal Palms Restaurant on the first floor of the Lani Kai Island Resort. «We’re offering great authentic Italian dishes that are reasonably priced in nice, large portions. All recipes are original, well prepared and continue to bring seafood purveyors and Italian cuisine searchers back to Island View.

The Sun Deck has the BEST PRICES and the food was EXCELLENT. THE SUN DECK HAS THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Each person who works at the Sun Deck is very friendly and hard working. The view from the roof top looking into the ocean was awesome. The tables on the rooftop are a combination of a picnic table and a swing and it can be difficult to enter or exit out of the table. Well I was having an issue exiting from my table and my waiter was right there he gave me his hand to hold on to so I would not fall. That was so simple but it impacted me that a person who needs to wait on other table took the time to helped my friends and i to exit the table without any mishaps. Thank you for the GREAT SERVICE!!! i am looking forward to my next visit to Sun Deck.

Worst customer service I have ever had, also food was terrible. I would never bring anybody there. Bartender told me to figure it out when I asked what was good. I definitely would try the sabal Palm beach bar and grill on the second floor instead, their food was absolutely amazing.

Okay for a roof top bar with bar food. Go for the view but don’t expect too much more than that. The staff were very nice, friendly and good at what they do.

This is the third time i have grabbed a bite to eat here. Location location! Amazing view of one of my favorite beaches and beach communities I’ve been too! The baskets are a great way to get a grouper fix at an affordable price. The sun deck has cool swinging booths and pavilions to sit under while watching the sunset. Bring your shades and sunscreen. It gets intense. We came in between shifts so all the waitstaff was lost. But there was an exceptional server that stepped it up and took care of us. Actually one of the bar tenders. It seems like they go through alot of employees here which is never a good sign to me. As far as location, view, and price go it’s hard to beat anywhere on this island that can compare. The customer service could be better and a more expierenced wait staff. A must go to in my opinion.

The food is delicious ! and when you park at lani Kai parking for $ 7.00 you get $ 7.00 off of your order! Fantastic! So often times my boyfriend and I will chill on the public beach — then go up to the sun deck for lunch — which is always fabulous. Once we went for breakfast and that was phenomenal as well! He ordered mouth watering pancakes and I had an omelette with lobster. Devine!!!

There have been a few times I have been less than thrilled with the service at the Sun Deck, but our last experience was exceptional. I had to take one star off though for the volume of the filler music in between sets of the very talented musicians that were there last Saturday night. My husband and I sat out in a porch swing and had the best waitress, Kat. She was sweet and attentive, kept everything coming, and even though 8 months pregnant and very busy besides, she kept her cheerful attitude all night long. The food was great, good portions, and the drinks were phenomenal. The only thing that let me down was the taste of the key lime pie that had a play-​doh taste. Otherwise, the little neck clams were delicious, the sweet potato fries were the best we ever had, and the ribs were excellent. I had the (real) crabcakes, and although they had plenty of blue crab in them, the meat was so shredded that it gave no bite to the cakes. Instead they were a bit mushy and even over seasoned just a tad. But the fabulous view and fresh air were perfect
We sat there for hours and got some great photos of the sunset.

Will update this review upon the arrival of our food. We just had our drink order taken after sitting here for over 20 minutes. The restaurant is pretty empty, but, upon inquest, we were told our server is on a smoke break, so they’d get a server over to our table. That was 15 minutes ago… I’m hoping the food is worth the wait, but with the amount of servers present compared to the amount of patron, a 20 minute wait to be seen by anyone is absolutely horrid.

This restaurant has jumbo wings and good oysters on the half shell. They run daily specials 4 – 6 pm which are a great price. The view is not matched in any other restaurant we’ve been to in the area. You look over Fort Myers beach and the Gulf of Mexico! Spectacular! Services were outstanding and always with a smile. Service was also very quick. Parking is free if you show your parking receipt they take it off your bill. We really enjoyed this restaurant and you do have the opportunity to sit inside with A/​C if you prefer. They have an adjoining restaurant that has table cloths etc but we prefer the area with the view. I’ve heard from several friends that the classier restaurant has great food as well but we haven’t tried it yet.

Good food, fair prices. Cheap kids menu $ 4.95. The view is beautiful. The Greek salad was delicious, calamari was ok. However, the fountain drinks on bill were $ 4 a pop (even for the kiddos), ouch — but free refills. Parking is tough, walk if possible.
The hotel itself looks run down and could use a good cleaning… but its laid back vibe makes it sort of ok. Nice place to look around, use the beach or eat a meal. Prolly better to stay elsewhere, and stop by here as a guest.

So, we thought it would be pretty cool to go to this place since it is on a roof of a building and might have a pretty cool view. When we got there we had to find the hidden elevator inside. It slowly took us up to the sun deck and I knew it wasn’t going to be so nice. It didn’t smell so good when we got up there. The seats up there are old and dirty. Once we sat down we waited about 10 – 15 minutes before someone could go to us to ask for a drink. The place was dead and had barely anyone there. This place really only has the view going for it. Makes me wonder what’s happening at the restaurant next to this place called island view.

Amazing view, making breakfast that much more enjoyable. Bloody Mary, crab cake & cheese omelette with potatoes– pretty damn appetizing & visually appeasing. All other omelettes look just as delish & where very well spoken of as well.

Came here with a friend. Thought we’d try it out since it am was close by. I like how the outside was set up and the table. Very hammock/​gondola look. We ordered a couple dishes. Pizza, ceviche, boom boom shrimp, coconut shrimp and spicy fish tacos. Our server was nice but I didnt like the fact that people can smoke outside. They should have a separate space for smoker and non smokers since the table next to us kept smoking. Which ruins the dinner for those that don’t smoke… Our food was good, however, the spicy fish tacos weren’t spicy at all. The boom boom shrimp was good along with the coconut shrimp. For the ceviche I felt like there wasn’t enough seafood in it…
