Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza

Had the house salad and the Capone Carne pizza. Both were very good. This is a popular place and usually very crowded. Don’t be fooled by the chain-​like name. This place is very good. Try Mama’s meatballs as an appetizer, you won’t be disappointed.

Decided to try Capone’s on a hot Saturday night. It was quite crowded outside but we entered and were immediately seated. It took the waitress a while to get to our table. I ordered a Margherita pizza and my friend ordered rigatoni and meatballs. We both ordered unsweet tea. The waitress told us they were brewing fresh tea so it would be a minute or so. Unfortunately the «freshly brewed» tea tasted like they used an old tea bag because it was Really weak. The pizza was quite delicious though the crust could have been a little crisper. My friend enjoyed his rigatoni. His only comment was the meatballs could have used a little more garlic. I would have no problem returning.

The whole family really enjoyed Capone’s, the theming was so fun and detailed and the pizza was delicious. Only disappointment was the appetizer and desert choices. I had seen on here the «cookie pizza» and went to order it, and they no longer make it. They only had two other choices each of which did not sound good to me. The apps were average, just wish there were some garlic bread or breadsticks on the menu.

Decided to try Capone’s on a Thursday evening after taking a walking tour of downtown Fort Myers. Although we had the option to sit outside along the street we opted for the a/​c inside as it was an exceptionally humid evening with the rain storms passing thru…
We were immediately sat in a booth (our request) and looked over the menu and the surroundings of the restaurant. Seeing that this was our first time we really enjoyed the ambience of the brick columns, black and white photo’s of Al Capone, the themed attire of the staff, and the music of the Prohibition Era playing in the background. There are a few HUGE black boards on various walls throughout the restaurant with the menu displayed so that you can get a look at what’s to offer without having to read the fined printed hand menu, nice touch as it worked at bringing my eye’s back to the menu and what I wanted to try! We settled in with a dirty martini for me and a vodka rocks for him, both drinks were made well and were fairly priced. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with answering questions pertaining to the menu. She even steered us to sharing a smaller salad knowing we were ordering a pizza; I liked that she was not trying to «push» anything on us just to «up-​sale». We decided on splitting a house salad and The Italiano pizza for our meal.
We were very surprised at the crisp freshness of our salad! We had come into the restaurant an hour before closing and weren’t too sure as to how things would be received; very surprised. Crisp romaine, garbanzo beans, Kalamata olives, tomato wedges, parmesan cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing; extremely good. Our Italiano pizza came with crispy crust, gooey mozzarella & parmesan cheese (not overly loaded), a nice thin layer of tomato sauce and piled pretty good with a quartette of prosciutto (Italian cured ham), Soppressata (Italian dry salami), Capicola (pork cold cut from the neck muscle) and pepperoni (sausage). This was a pretty darn good pizza! My guy likes pizza you can «fold over» and eat like a taco, this pizza was pretty successful in those regards. My own personal preference is that it’s not too saucy (which it wasn’t) but this sauce had no flavor, seasoning or salt. And although the meats on this pizza flavored the entire slice with a salty cured taste, that’s all you could taste, cured meat. Not bad, but I wanna taste the herbs in the sauce, and the «stink» from the parmesan while the mozzarella swirls around in my mouth wrapped among the crispy crust. Now, don’t get me wrong, this was a good pizza but not the best I’ve had around Fort Myers and there are plenty to try!
Stop in to Capone’s and give it a try. You’ll enjoy a good cocktail surrounded by an ambience of when it was illegal to have alcohol and enjoy a decent pie to wash it down with.

Came and ate… wasn’t the wow I was expecting. Pizza wasn’t crusty as I thought .very chewy… Did try there chicken buffalo soup and it was good. .first time I heard of it. taste like buffalo chicken just no bones .:)nice environment a lot of capone memerbilia..

Looking for a lunch spot in Downtown Fort Myers stopped in while walking by. Pizza is ok. It was more of a gas oven pizza rather then coal oven. Pizza did not have the charred smokey crust of a coal oven pizza. The cheese didn’t have the melted gooey texture but rather it was kind of gritty, crumbly texture almost as if it needed to be cooked longer. It could also be a sign of a lower quality cheese that doesn’t melt like a good cheese. The sauce was a bit too acidic and almost sour. The crust was cooked nicely. The Baby Spinach salad was good and a very nice size portion that is more then enough for 2 people. The dressing was delicious but it was a little too much. Our server was a bit frantic and busy but her service was spot on and she still manage a smile.

Crap, has to be the worst pizza I’ve had. Downtown pizza is way better don’t waste your money here if your looking for good pizza.

Went to Capone’s on a busy weekend night, when either Art Walk or Music Walk was happening at the same time.
Got immediately sat.
My boyfriend and I only ordered regular fountain drinks, a pizza to share, and a pasta to share since it was our first time there. All food seemed reasonably priced. Both the pizza and pasta were absolutely delicious. No complaints whatsoever. It was so good I couldn’t help but blurt out «Fucking amazing!!!» when the waiter came by to check up on us. Drink glasses always kept full. We had a waiter with a wonderful personality and he was very very attentive. When told it was our first time there, he was very ready to give us his recommendations on what to order. He talked to us more than a normal person waiter would and kept us happy and laughing also. We gave him the biggest tip we have ever came close to leaving for anybody. Hands down the best waiter I’ve ever had anywhere. I would come back to this place just for him.
Restaurant has a cool atmosphere. Awesome display in the middle of the restaurant under the floor. Loved seeing the pizza makers spin the dough in the air. Restaurant is clean. Bartender was wearing strange attire though.
Overall a wonderful restaurant!!!

Another great meal at Capones. Tonight my wife and I opted for pasta dishes rather than one of Capones fantastic pizzas. My wife had the Cajun spiced chicken and shrimp over ziti and I had meat balls and linguini. Both dishes lived up to the reputation Capones has of fantastic food. Service was good both in the bar area where we had an appetizer of meat balls and rocatta cheese and a couple of drinks while waiting for our table and the great service continued with our server outside as we opted to dine outside since the night was enjoyable. We’ll be back soon. This is becoming a favorite of ours. Plus the live music in the common area across the street was just loud enough to enjoy without having to elevate your conversation to talk over it. Great all the way around!

Really cool place, kinda loud but it is a big open room so expect that. the pizza is really good, according to my wife and son, no too expensive either, a medium was plenty for two.
I went with a recommendation from a fellow Unilocaler and that was the Cajun chicken and shrimp. oh my was this really good. Just order it. Lot of shrimp and chicken. good service.good night out!

This place was amazing. The Al Capone theming was fabulous. I had bruschetta and my daughter had the white gluten free pizza. Both were very good. I would have given 5 stars but two pizzas of my bruschetta were burned black on the edges so they had a burnt toast flavor. Other than that the meal was amazing.

The wait was short for a Saturday nite and so worth it. The pizza was amazing and one of the best I’ve had in Florida. The staff was super friendly.

The atmosphere is awesome! The bathrooms are SUPER COOL!
The food is excellent. We’ve tried the pizza (which is delicious and coal fired), the chicken Alfredo (which is made with homemade pasta) which was incredible, and the appetizer meatballs which were large and tasty.
This feels like classic Italian in an old world setting. The price is great for the food and the staff is great!
Always a stop when I’m in town!

Lame. Loud. Lousy service. Caesar salad was dismal. Wine was mediocre, but hey ~ what do you want for $ 7/​glass. Pizza was great, but not great enough to make up for the rest of the experience. Mgmt is barely paying attention and the staff is unpolished, unprofessional and running amok. Hostesses were rude and high school freshmen. Miserable dining experience but great pizza. All things considered: you’re better off at Grimaldi’s. Skip Capone’s or get the pie to go.

Have not dine in Downtown Fort Myers in a while.
Five of us went to Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza on Sunday around 5:45 PM. The place is not full but because number in the party, we have to wait for a booth in the backroom. It was simply too chilly to sit outside. So we walk around for 15 – 20 minutes and did some windows shopping until text message indicating our table is ready!
This is a theme restaurant next door to Ford’s Garage so we have door handles in the shape of machine guns. Huge pictures of Al Capone, and huge wall menu. Of course it is not complete without the underground vault. It is nicely done!
We shared a large House Salad. The garden vegetables were fresh and well mixed with Garbanzo beans, Red onion, Olives, Tomato wedges and just the right touch of wine vinaigrette.
We ordered the Mama’s Meat balls as appetizers. The meat balls were huge with Marinara sauce and Romano cheese. Well prepared and tasty!
Next we have the Rigatoni a la Vodka. We did not add shrimp or chicken but the Prosciutto tilted to salty side. Nevertheless, the tomato vodka cream sauce makes this a hearty dish!
We also have an extra-​large pie half with cheese and half with sausage. The edge was crispy but the slides are foldable. Next time, we have to try the Tommy Gun Pizza with Pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham, onion, peppers and mushrooms.
The staff in their Capone era dress are very attentive and friendly.

I give the food about a 3 and the place a 4. So, consider this a 3.5 kinda place.
So the food. The bruschetta was great. Get that. They aren’t playing around with that. Except, bruschetta, I feel, is kinda hard to mess up. The chicken wings? Not great. Kinda bland. Kinda felt like regular heated up chicken wings. They need a sauce, which I hate, or more seasoning. We ordered the Italian pizza with all that meat on it. It was ordered well done so it would «crispy» but it was still floppy. The crust at the end sometimes was crispy aka burnt but the rest was hard to eat. I like to fold my pizzas like everyone else… this pizza wasn’t really foldable.
The place itself was nice. The location is a smart location and the décor is well done. The bathroom looks like a jail cell for the men’s bathroom and the floor/​vault/​see-​through thing is very cool.
I may or may not come back. I’m not sold on this place yet.

This place was good, upon arrival staff was very friendly and prompt, drinks arrived a little late but service and food time overcame that. :)
the location is great. If you sit outside you will get quite a pretty view from beautiful downtown historical buildings.
I wll go back.

I’m generally weary of theme-​based restaurants, as the amount of effort put into the décor and ambiance vs. the food can sometimes be disproportional towards the former… but this is very much not the case (check out the drop floor, you can’t miss it).
Checked out the menu, checked out the pizza on the outdoor tables, decided this was a solid option. We were given a 45 minute waiting time, meh, no big deal. Took my cell for the «table’s up!» text, which came a very real 5 minutes later from a New Jersey based number. Now I know Capone was born in Brooklyn and lived in Chicago, but something about seeing a «201» made this place feel just that much more authentic.
Look left, look right, look up, down, upside down. There is a menu hanging everywhere. Since it’s not huge, it’s legible… so you can ALWAYS be deciding what you want to eat.
I was doing my best to manage a craving for a salad a la red wine vinaigrette hours before we ended up here, but that’s what I got to start and I fully recommend it. Very simple, much like any similar salad i’ve had at home.
We got one large red and one large white, both with chicken and spinach in addition to the normal toppings. The pizzas checked all the boxes — crust, toppings, sauce, thickness, excellent on all fronts.
Washed that down with a few pints of Lagunitas and called it a night.
Dinner? Yup. Lunch the next day? Yup. Four slices left that came on the plane with me 3 days later that I proceeded to consume while waiting for my luggage at baggage claim 6 in terminal A of EWR? Yup.
Still delicious? YUP.

Two words: «Seems legit».
Well, it’s «been legit since 2014»… says part of the slogan of the establishment.
Imagine you’re back in the roaring 20s and need a chill place to go. Your stomach is hungry and you want a low key meal where the atmosphere allows you ample room to partake in «classic Italian» food. just like the boys back home used to make… after watching their mama for half their life.
Enter Capone’s, a coal fired pizza joint. Sure, they have salads and pasta, but the thin crust pizza pie is all the rage. Prices seem competitive for all entrees and the service is quick.
Vegetable pizza (medium) is big enough that 3 people were able to share it with no problem. Throw in a medium house salad and you’re looking around to make sure there won’t be nobody watching you… cos you’re about to feed everyone with this bowl. One of the people I went with, had a craving for the Chicken Pesto sandwich. This was after she ate 3 pieces of pizza and half the salad. Was she satisfied? If I told you she literally ate half the sammy before asking to take the rest home, would you break my knuckles?
The cool thing about this place? The center piece. Rather, the drop floor in the center of the room. It’s a clear plexiglass floor that looks down into a vault. A set of stairs (like 4 steps or so) would take someone right down into what would be a hideout office. This vault is deep enough that there is a desk with (fake) money strewn all around it. Some is on the stairs, some on the floor. An ashtray with big ol fatty cigars are on a corner of the desk. A skeleton is hanging out in a corner, with his spats next to him. Who is this, and why was he so comfortable he took his shoes off? Is this his hideout? Is that his money? Who knows.
The only thing I can say, is next time I’m back in the downtown area, I’m heading into Capone’s for another round!
