Specialties
Thoroughbred Power Systems is the new name our Automatic Standby Power Systems company that has been in business on Long Island for almost 30 years!
Standby power system design, sales, installation and service have long been offered by us as one of many services performed by our parent company, Thomas C. Gumbrecht, Inc. (Electrical Contractors). Our new name reflects a new commitment to a growing demand for a knowledgeable, insightful and experienced provider of automatic power standby systems on Long Island. It represents a new level of commitment to the security of our clients.
History
Established in 1985.
Our principal, Thomas Gumbrecht, began his career as an apprentice in the electrical field in 1972, becoming a journeyman electrician in 1975. In 1985 he became a master electrician and began doing business on his own account as Thomas C Gumbrecht, Inc., engaging in residential, commercial and industrial electrical work as well as specifying selling and installing automatic standby power (generator) systems.
In 2012 a new division, Thoroughbred Power Systems, was formed, which obtained sales and service dealership qualifications with the major generator manufacturers and adopted innovative service strategies in order to provide their generator clients with the same unrivaled service they had become accustomed to on the electrical contracting side.
Meet the Business Owner
Tom G.
Business Owner
Tom’s work life has been devoted to the electrical industry for 35+ years, and he has demonstrated a penchant for establishing and nurturing long term relationships with both employees and clients. His quest for knowledge brings him several times yearly to the training facilities of the major U.S. generator manufacturers in the Midwest to keep up with the rapidly changing technologies.
Tom shares a home in Fort Salonga NY with his wife Mary, daughter Samantha and grandson Daniel. His passion for the generator business is only equalled by his passion for horses and riding. One special horse, Lola, an off-track Thoroughbred rescue, is actually the namesake of Thoroughbred Power Systems.
