Flowers To Go

A friend of mine was set to have his birthday while on a business trip to Fort Worth, and I decided I wanted to surprise him in some way, given I know what it’s like to have your birthday on the road. The tricky part was the fact that I couldn’t ask my friend any details about his trip; instead I had to hope he’d somehow volunteer the information I needed to know — he did! But it wasn’t until Sunday night that all the details came together. On Monday morning I began scheming, and by that afternoon, I had decided on flowers & cake! (Because who doesn’t like that pairing?) I searched multiple flower company options here on Unilocal,and selected Flowers To Go based on liking the photos I saw of their arrangements.
But here was the tricky part: I had never ordered flowers for a man before. Do men like flowers? Yes, I’ve heard this is true — from multiple male friends. But what do they like? Most importantly, based on hotel photos I’d found online, the interior design of my friend’s hotel room was not my cup of tea — how would I ever find an arrangement that didn’t clash with it?
I called Flowers To Go and spoke with Becca on Monday. We game-​planned about strategy, and then set-​up a call with the designer, Tara, for the next morning — the same day as my friend’s birthday (!). I talked through my three primary requirements with Tara as follows:
3 Primary Requirements:
— Masculine
— Complementary with Hotel Room Interior Design (bold, primary colors)
— Price Range Alignment
We then brainstormed multiple options and ideas. Here’s where we landed:
Front-​Facing Flower Arrangement:
— Tropical
— Birds of Paradise
— Ginger (Magenta)
— Sunflowers (ended up being out of stock :(but still beautiful!)
— Purples, Yellows, Oranges
— Greens: Flat, Palm Leaves
The final product turned out to be exactly what I had in mind. My friend loved them! His exact words were «they’re beautiful». I’m happy they warmed up his hotel room, and hopefully made him feel both special and more at home while traveling for work on his birthday. :)

I couldn’t have asked for a better arrangement! My mom had been in and out of hospitals for 3 weeks and needed some real cheer.
