Lockheart Gables Romantic Bed & Breakfast

There’s a reality TV show, «Hotel Impossible,» where an expert finds a struggling hotel and coaches the owners on basic hospitality. Lockheart Gables needs that help. We stayed 2 nights FRI-​SUN, so it was after work before we could get there – in typical DFW traffic. I called the B&B about 5:30pm and Bill, the owner, acted like I was totally putting him out by arriving after 6:00pm. «We like to have everybody here before 6:00pm.» I’m sure you do, sir. But I’m paying a very steep price to stay at your B&B, so I think you could act like you value my business. We arrived about 6:10pm and both Bill and Kelly met us at reception. Smiled but had clipboard ready and seemed very awkward – not «homey» like a B&B yet not «businesslike» like a standard hotel. Just awkward. The TV expert would definitely work on both their phone manners and the check-​in process – after explaining that they need to be more flexible about check-​in times.
If you’re staying at a historical home you expect rough edges, and Lockheart Gables has plenty of rough edges. Water, electrical, and TV all worked flawlessly, although there was a prominent drip from the shower onto the wall and when I reported it to Bill (expecting concern because of the risk of long-​term damage) he seemed as though he knew about it already. I’m sure it’s difficult to keep up an ancient house, so he chooses his battles. But at least pretend for the customer (another thing the TV expert would teach them). In any case, be prepared for creaky, drafty, leaky, slanted, and everything else that comes with a 120-​year-​old home. The mattress (Forever Yours suite) was so old and worn that there’s a hole in the middle into which my wife and I both slid all night long. Romantic, I guess? Just uncomfortable. Excellent sheets, though. The décor was amazing if you’re into that style. Honestly, I kept thinking how nice a modern hotel room I could have purchased for less money. But I’ve never liked antiques, and you might. By the second night even my crafty, antique-​loving wife was ready for a room at the Marriott.
You could tell they put a lot of pride in their food. Breakfast delivered to the room was nice. It was as hot as expected for room service. Not gourmet, but you could tell it was «made with love.» I think the TV expert would work with them on quality and on choice, which could be done inexpensively and make a big difference for guests. They definitely are trying.
There’s a massive Tupperware display in the living room. Not sure why. No sales effort was made (thankfully) but it was still odd to have it there.
Like I said, the TV expert could, in one weekend, turn Lockheart Gables into a winner – assuming the owners are willing. I wonder if, for them, it’s too late. They have done as they’ve done for 20 years now, so unlikely that they’d change. Too bad, because a few key fixes could save their business. I wish them luck.

My brother-​in-​law got married here recently and I was not impressed! When they had signed their contract for the wedding here at Lockheart the owners made them all these promised and whatnot and after they signed the contract the owners started changing the agreement– that itself set the whole thing off poorly to me. The owners were not dressed the part to be attending a wedding– just basic clothes with their logo on their shirts. The owners were overlooking the whole set up process and were less than helpful. While my brother-​in-​law was standing at the alter the owner came up to him and was complaining about how many guest were there– I didn’t think that was an appropriate time to be discussing business. The owner was in the way while the bride came down the staircase taking photos– she had told my brother-​in-​law that she would take professional photos, the camera looked to have cost about $ 50 from Walmart. Before the ceremony started she told my cousins, who had little kids with them, to go put the kids in the back room and shut the door so they wouldn’t disturb the ceremony– SHE WANTED THE KIDS LOCKED IN A ROOM! The whole night the owners were watching and acting like security. My fiancé and I stayed at the B&B and the room was comfortable and the bed was nice but when we went to use the tub the water was lukewarm. Breakfast was a thin waffle and 4 pieces of bacon– which my mother-​in-​law requested to not have but still received. My fiancé said the coffee was very good though! Overall I was not impressed with this place and not happy with the staff.

Supporting this venue is supporting discrimination and homophobia! My partner and I have been looking for wedding venues in the DFW area. We scheduled a tour at Lockheart Gables through
and drove two hours round trip from where we live to see the venue. We were in contact with Kelly from the venue and I emailed her my fiancés information before the tour. She obviously didn’t look at the information I sent her beforehand to realize we are a same-​sex couple. Instead, when we got there, we were escorted inside the doorway and then asked if it was a same-​sex wedding. When I replied that it was, I was informed that the minister on staff «does not do that», and there is no option for renting the venue without said minister. There was nothing on the Knot page for this venue or on their website that said it had such strong religious affiliations and opinions on same-​sex marriage. If we knew it did, we would not have scheduled a tour out of our respect for the views of some people of faith not to perform same-​sex marriages. I left the venue in tears, without a tour, feeling extremely offended and devalued. Any wedding venue asking for thousands of dollars for booking should be up-​front about their refusal to serve same-​sex couples, and risk the loss of business that this stance might bring. For my fiancé and myself this experience was absolutely horrible. We have never before been made to feel so discriminated against. I would encourage same-​sex couples to not schedule any tours with this venue. Also, heterosexual couples who have any gay relatives or friends that will be attending your wedding, or if you consider yourself an ally to the LGBT community in any way, I strongly suggest that you take this venue’s stance into consideration when deciding where to spend your hard-​earned money.

was also shocked by this behavior, and she will be informing her director of this experience. TheKnot supports same-​sex couples in their wedding planning, and I do not consider them to be at fault for this venue’s actions.

After posting so reviews on multiple sites is when they contacted us.
We questioned her response by stating «Now to Address your response to my review. You stated, „Upon departure, guests were asked if they were satisfied with the suite and said they were.“ We were satisfied with what we had to settle for. There were no „mechanical issues“ in the new suite. But that doesn’t mean we were satisfied with the stay. We assumed when you asked if we were satisfied with the suite we were discussing the one you moved us to, not the one you moved us out of. You also state, „When asked the reason for its issuance, husband said he did not remember.“ That’s a false statement. My husband immediately told you all that it was because the AC. In fact, that’s when you made the comment about us not having to worry about the AC this time because we had just had the cold front.»
Her Response to us: «We also apologize that you felt uncomfortable when redeeming the gift certificate. While I don’t remember the details of that situation, please believe that neither of us were thinking or feeling what you interpreted. My comment upon your checking out was in no way intended to offend you, and I sincerely apologize that it apparently did.»
i found it disturbing that she states she doesnt remember the details of our conversation but she posts on her and other reviews as she does. Nor has she taken the time to correct her rebuttle statements on any of the review sites after I corrected her.

Spectacular :-) I had my wonderful wedding here last year. The owners are very nice. The place was beautiful. The room was beautiful. I wish I could’ve stayed there longer. My wedding was perfect. I’d totally recommend this place. The building has character and it has a vintage feel. I’d like to thank the owners for making my special day a memorable and magical one:-)

I had my wedding here. It is a great venue and great price, but the owners are a nightmare! They are overly casual, they forgot our appointments, and were rude to our family members. I asked the owner (wife) not to be with me the day of the wedding because she was such a pain to deal with during the process. Also they stayed in the back of the wedding area to oversee everything but were very casually dressed. They wore clothes I would imagine people wearing to clean out their garage, not to oversee a wedding. They did not plant fresh flowers before the wedding and the place looked green, but not colorful. Our pictures turned out great and they did not ruin our wedding, but they tried to. I have so many stories about the owners and what they did/​said. Thankfully my family helped out with the wedding and everything worked out. If you really like the venue I recommend you have your own wedding planner to deal with the owners so you don’t have to deal with them.
