Finally made it into Massey’s. It’s kinda been a goal to get there and eat and it’s considered an institution in Fort Worth. I wavered on 3 or 4 stars. The hot food was pretty darn good. The rolls and the chicken fried steak I got was really nice and obviously fresh. The salad, less impressive and the atmosphere was a bit of a let down. Honestly, I’d go again and eat it. Really. It was good, but maybe it was an off night as far as the crowd, since there was no crowd. It seems like any time I pass the place the parking lot is full, except the night we ate there. Either way, the hot rolls are awesome and the chicken fried steak is good, tender crisp on the outside and hot and flavorful on the inside. The mashed potatoes are worth the trip too as there’s no doubt they are the real deal.

I have been eating chicken fried steak at Massey’s for decades. Once and a while I order the fried chicken livers, but usually recommend them to my dining companion and then steal a couple from their plate. Really good yeast rolls, exceptional cream gravy. OK sides. BUTWAIT! Rolled into the parking lot today, Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. salivating in anticipation of that crusty CFS and guess what? Massey’s is now CLOSED on SATURDAYS! Makes no sense, especially on a TCU game day. Even more strange: Now open M-F from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. Please open on Saturdays again. FORTHELOVEOFGODPLEASE! It is the only day of the week I can make it out there.

Dear Massey’s, Why you do me like this? You seat me and give me a plate of heavenly rolls to snack on while I troll your menu.(Your menu with SUPERAWESOME cheap prices, btw). You serve me a plate of smothered chicken fried steak fine enough to serve God himself. I don’t think the okra had any survivors. You see, I thought I was going to fall in love with you. I thought I was going to write you a long-ass review, extolling all of your glories and, eventually, make it’s way to the Unilocal homepage as the ROTD. But no. You took this away. From BOTH of us. Your dessert completely and utterly sucks. I found it most disrespectful to have been served homemade banana pudding that actually falls past«Prison Food» on the Tasty Food Scale. And for the record, next time you microwave my piece of pie, make sure it is heated all the way through. I guess you couldn’t, seeing as how it tasted like metal it probably short circuited. Massey’s, we really could have been good together. The dream is gone, never having had a chance to begin. Regretfully, Christine

I went for Massey’s daily special: Chicken Fried Steak(CFS), two sides: green beans and mashed potatoes, dessert(banana pudding) and a drink for around $ 7.00 I was not a fan of the CFS. I found it to be pretty mediocre. I am a much bigger fan of Babe’s than Massey’s. Keep in mind though I don’t eat gravy on my CFS. Perhaps if you drown it in gravy that will make it taste astounding. The sides kind of had the cafeteria food experience(which actually, I kind of like). You can expect your green beans to be dark green and cooked to death and the mashed potatoes are nothing to speak of. As for the dessert, I don’t do bananas so I didn’t try the pudding. I did, however, order a slice of pecan pie and that delicious! The pecan pie had a massive, unbelievable, indescribable amount of pecans on it. The pie crust was the best I’ve ever eaten(I normally don’t eat pie crust). All in all, the lunch special is a good deal but I found the legend of the CFS to fall drastically short of the mark. I would grab me a slice of pecan pie though.

we went to massey’s today for lunch. every time my hubby says chef’s pointe has the best chicken fried steak, his mom always responds with have you gone to massey’s? so, we gave it a go today. located near the hospital district, this place looked like it’s been here for a bit, 1942, if i remember correctly. we walked in and were greeted and seated pretty quickly. the waitress was attentive and made sure our drinks were continually filled. we made it in time for the lunch special. for about $ 7, you can get beef brisket or chicken fried steak with two sides, a drink, and cake. yep, sounds like the sampler to me, that’s what i’m going with. i order the chicken fried steak with mashed potatos/country gravy and green beans along with the potato skins appetizer. my hubby ordered the chicken fried steak with fries. we both agreed that the chicken fried steak was pretty good. just your old fashioned chopped steak with a nice crisp crust. the sides tasted home cooked. and the potato skins were awesome. i saw a couple of pies walk by and got all wide-eyed but i was so full. the waitress brought by a piece of cake… banana nut. nothing special about it, artificial flavors… my hubby liked it. won’t go out of my way for the cfs. but it was solid experience.

This is the kind of place every local will rave about, but you would never find on your own. From the outside, the place has no flash or indication that you are about to experience some home cookin’ finger lickin’ good eatin’ that only comes from the one of the kind whole in the wall family restaurants such as Massey’s. With 47 years of history, and the furniture to match, Massey’s is a no-frills, no-nonsense place. The wait staff don’t try to impress, but they are efficient and attentive… and you get what you ask for. The draw to Massey’s is their famous Chicken Fried Steak… a mouth watering breaded delight accompanied by mash potatoes and half a bucket of perfectly flavored gravy… To be sure, Massey’s delivers the best Chicken Fried Steak meal you might ever encounter. On a scale of 1−10…it is a 9+ if it is anything at all. The melt in the mouth steak with the crunch of a perfected batter, all washed down with the flavor of a well spiced gravy… needless to say… everyone was highly satisfied and no one was hungry… for hours to come.
