History

Established in 1976.

C. Crane’s first electronics product was the «Select-A-Tenna», an antenna designed for long-distance reception of AM radio broadcasts. The company advertised on late-night radio shows, which served to increase business from AM listeners looking for better reception. Later in the 1980s, C. Crane began to distribute radios, such as the Sangean 909 and GE Superadio, to go along with their antennas. Following the 1992 Cape Mendocino earthquakes, the company expanded their catalog to include emergency radios and other disaster equipment, such as flashlights. Eventually, C. Crane began to produce its own radios such as the CCRadio-SW, CCRadio-2, CC WiFi and CCRadio-EP. The company has also expanded it’s product line to include the high-brightness, energy saving GeoBulb and PowerVivid LED bulbs.

Meet the Business Owner

Robert C.

Business Owner

Bob (Robert) and his wife, Sue started C. Crane Company at the kitchen table in 1983 with $ 300. He had owned a contracting firm in the Bay Area, but moved out to the country – Fortuna is about 250 miles away from Portland, Ore. He couldn’t get his favorite radio stations from the Bay area so he found an antenna for a radio and started a business selling them from his kitchen table.

C Crane now has approximately 40 employees and Bob and Sue no longer work out of their home. They have a store front in downtown Fortuna.
