We are «residential» specialist, from very old homes to modern homes. We conduct «home electrical evaluations» to determine load distribution and perform load balancing for your house. We specialize in working with «lath and plaster» homes and Eichler style homes.

As our company name suggests, we are the «creative lighting specialist.» We can design and install indoor and outdoor lighting projects. We have many reference customers that you can visit and see their lights in action !

We can help install your high-​definition TV monitors, home theater and home networking wiring.

History

Established in 1984.

The Creative Lighting Solutions, Inc. was founded in 1984 in San Francisco under «Richmond Electric and Lighting Company.» Experienced in working with old Victorian homes and other homes built after the 1906 earth quake, the company excels in detailed electrical implementations.

Often, the older homes have a history of being touched/​worked on by many different people from different trade. Electrical wiring and projects can lead to Winchster Mystery House Syndrome where many implementation had no «over-​all» plan and installed hap-​hazzardly, thereby creating «spagetti» of wires running from junction box to junction box. Creative Lighting Solutions, Inc. can intelligently re-​wire and modernize your electrical system with new grounding system. The company has many years of working in the San Francisco Bay area homes and improving their safety and comfort one home at a time.

Fred and his team perform professional, neat and clean work. His team covers the floor and furnitures prior to work and cleans up after work. Fred is detailed oriented and holds very high standards.

Responsive and friendly, Fred’s passion is to help customers with their electrical projects, especially with lighting. Since Fred graduated from UC Berkeley, he will gladly extend «alumni discount» to verifyable UC graduates.

I reached out to Fred for a quote on a panel upgrade for my new home. Fred was professional and very knowledgeable about his trade. His prices are reasonable but I did not end up working with Fred simply because I needed to get the service upgrade completed sooner than his workload allowed. This review is long overdue.
I have one word to describe Fred and his crew — PROFESSIONAL. I first called Fred based on a friend’s referral and have been a delighted repeat customer. Communication is excellent. Customer service is excellent. Quality of service is excellent.
I first used CLS to «creatively» install some track lights in my raised ceiling, exposed beam living room. I wanted the lights to be installed on the bottom of the beams. Fred cleanly installed the tracks so that NO wires or molding are visible. He carefully drilled an 18″ long hole through the beam so that the track appears to be powered wirelessly!
I also had Fred do a «big» job — upgrading our electrical panel to 200 amps. Again his work was performed timely and meticulously.
An added bonus — they clean up after themselves at the end of each workday! A broom and vacuum cleaner are important tools for CLS.

Fred came highly recommended by a neighbor for a job to upgrade my electrical panel. I met Fred and discussed the work. I knew right away I was talking to a professional with a sense of humor. I was going on vacation and was confident enough to hand over my house keys to Fred. Fred kept me posted with progress and even sent photos of his progress to my phone. He made all arrangements with PGE and followed through with them well after he was already paid. After dealing with contractors, we all know once they’re paid, it’s almost impossible to have them come back to button up projects. This was not the case with Creative Lighting Solutions, he finished what he started. I already have plans to bring Fred back for smaller projects. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!-

This is my first Unilocal review. Fred and his crew just completed recessed lighting at my house. 20+ lights over 3 rooms. They completed the 1 room per day and left the house clean, almost as if nothing happened.
Fred was very responsive and personable. He came by at the end of every night to check on the lights and lighting levels.
Bottom line: fast, clean, and on budget. Would definitely use him again.

I can’t think of anyone else to perform my electrical projects. Since our move to Foster City, he’s been our go to Electrician. Prices are more than fair and work is truly exceptional. Canned lighting in all bedrooms and living room looks fantastic. Surely his work has increased the value of our property and I can’t thank him enough. On top of being good at what he does, he’s also an avid golden state warriors fan. That alone should persuade anyone to hire him! ;)

We hired Fred and his team from Creative Lighting Solutions to install a very heavy chandelier in our foyer, but liked them so much we asked them to install a light fixture in our dining room and rewire our hallway switches as well. Fred may not be the most inexpensive electrician, but he is easy to work with, reliable, and professional. He also offers a 10% discount to UC grads! He and his staff (Jose) worked quickly and cleanly during our two-​day project. They were both very conscientious about leaving our home in the same condition as when they arrived. Their work was meticulous and thorough. I was a bit concerned about the ability of our ceiling to support the expensive, 150lb crystal chandelier we had purchased from Restoration Hardware. Fred added additional support/​reinforcements to ensure the fixture wouldn’t come crashing down 30ft and explained to me each step of the installation process. He is responsive via phone, email, and text. I couldn’t be happier with their work! I would absolutely recommend Fred and Jose to friends and family, and will certainly be using them again for our electrical needs.

They are polite and quiet, listens to our requests thoroughly and give us a lot of options before starting a project, always on time for work, good communication, excellent workmanship and quality of work, never fail to clean up neatly after the end of the day every time… the list will go on. I have used Creative Lighting for ~ 8 years for projects as large as a complete power panel and wiring upgrade, to smaller sub plannel and circuit upgrades. Each time Fred and his team arrive, they are always on time and full of enthusiasm to get busy and always flexible with my last minute changes.
What I enjoy most about Fred and the team is that I can trust them, they do a great job, always clean up after themselves and they do what it takes to get the job done and in many cases it requires weekend work.

I had Fred and his crew install 4 can lights in my living room and replace a fixture on my front porch.
I had received a few quotes from other electricians for the job prior to contacting Fred and I was not very happy with them. I found Fred on Unilocal and decided to give him a try…
Fred was very flexible with my schedule — coming to review and quote the job at night (after my baby went to sleep!) He was very polite and did not try to sell me on additional projects. I told him what I wanted and he worked within my budget. He also gave me really good advice in terms of placement of the can lights.
I really cannot say enough good things about Fred. The job was done exactly how I had envisioned… even better! I am definitely going to use him on future electrical work I may need. And I highly recommend him to all Unilocalers out there!

I had Fred and his team come back for some additional work today. 5 fixtures were installed (2 wall sconces, a ceiling light for the house) and a ceiling fan and track light for the garage for the man cave.
Arrived promptly on time took the time to talk to me to understand what I wanted. I had the opportunity to watch Fred and his worker actually install the wall sconces.
I notice that great care was taken to ensure he didn’t track in dirty shoes while he worked. If there was a question, Fred answered it without hesitation. He even made suggestions on where to place the ceiling fan in the garage. Something I didn’t really thought out well.
When the work was completed, they took care to clean up after themselves and made sure all the fixtures were working correctly.
Definitely Fred will be called upon for other future work.

Bumped into Fred’s crew when they were doing a commercial installation while I was in old downtown Palo Alto. I asked for a card, then read up on all the other reviews here on Unilocal (thank you for the detailed and balanced reviews, btw).
I contacted Fred to have him install an elaborate blown-​glass chandelier, install some Lutron occupancy switches, and track lighting. He came over and we discussed various options and he set expectations of what the work would be like and rough and general pricing. Since he works by the hour, and the customer basically pays for labor and materials, the estimate is just that… and estimate.
It turned out that the pre-​wired housing for the chandelier didn’t look like it would carry the load on the entire chandelier, and the joists were in a unusual config. He proactively went and rigged up a sturdy 2×4 cross beam between joists and hard-​mounted the chandelier mount right into the new cross beam. Turns out, it carried his body weight on the beam (and probably can do more than that).
Both Fred and his journeyman assistant were extremely professional, extremely tidy, laid down protective cloth everywhere in the work area, and left he place spotless when they left.
Fred even followed-​up afterwards to make sure we were happy with the work. Absolutely love that kind of service! His pricing is moderate and appropriate for the experience, expertise, and efficiency that he brings to work projects. I’d wholeheartedly recommend that people should chat with him.
Oh, one thing to note. When he’s busy, he may not get back to you immediately, but he may take a day or two instead. When it gets closer to the scheduled work date, his accessibility goes up as he clears his other projects and focuses on the one coming up.
