Open Gate Travel is a full service travel agency that can help you arange all components of your trip in a knowledgeable and professional manner. From a weekend getaway to complicated, multi-​country itineraries, we can take care of every detail. Owner Pamela Appell has been in the travel industry since 1992 and has extensive personal travel experience that enables her to assist you with most destinations around the world. Cruises, escorted or independent vacations, «sun and fun», honeymoons, air & rail tickets are just some of the things that we can help you with. Why sit for hours trying to do these things yoursel? With the exception of airline tickets, we do not charge fees for our services.

History

Established in 1992.

Open Gate Travel began in Foster City in 2002 and in June 2013 Pam moved her home and office to Petaluma, CA. Now Open Gate Travel not only serves clients on the San Francisco Peninsula but now in Sonoma, Marin, & Napa counties as well. From 1992 to 2002 Pam Appell partnered with Starbird Travel in Foster City, CA. When Starbird closed its’ doors in 2002 Pam started Open Gate Travel.

Pamela has been in the travel industry since 1992 after completing the Travel Careers program at Canada College. Previously a partner at Starbird Travel in Foster City, CA she started Open Gate Travel in 1992. The agency began in Foster City and in 2013 Open Gate Travel moved to Petaluma, CA. A California Seller of Travel, OSSN, TRUE, and IATAN member. In 1993 Pamela founded Peninsula Travel Experts which is a professional travel agent organization that has been featured in several trade magazines. She is also a member of the North Bay Travel Professionals group. Pamela attends numerous seminars and lectures throughout the year to keep current on the constantly changing travel industry. Through her own travel to many destinations around the world Pam can bring a personal touch when arranging travel for her clients.

Pamela Appell is an expert. She takes puts care and attention into every detail of your trip. Our last trip to Italy (June 2015) she booked us in accommodations with screens and air conditioning. HUGE Bonus — given the temperatures were heating up. On the last night of our trip, we reached out to Pam and wrote this, «We are in Venice on the last night of our trip, and I’m just so happy and excited and content because this trip has been phenomenal. We just had a family conversation and agreed that our accommodations and itinerary were ideal. You were a huge part of this. THANK YOU!»

vacations the best they can be. Nothing is too much to ask.
Having someone with this much experience makes all the
difference in the world when planning a weekend away or

Whenever we have used Pam for our travel for decades. We always feel like she has our backs. The real measure of a superb travel agent is how they respond when things go bad through no fault of their own. Pam has worked tirelessly in the background to get us upgraded or any problems resolved quickly with vendors without so much as a terse word having to come from us. We have traveled to two hurricane stricken environments which definitely put a strain on travel agents around the globe. But Pam was always there to catch us in the event of local problems. Pam can get it done! She also has a ton of personal experience with many of the myriad locations people may choose to travel to. She’ll help you get setup in any configuration that works for you too (you do airlines, she does hotels and so forth). I can’t give her a higher recommendation than this. But if I could I’d give her six stars!

We’ve used Pam for various trips. We really like her. She’s knowledgeable, helpful, and able to take care of some of the leg work so we don’t have to. She works with other suppliers to get package deals and contract rates (often cheaper flights than you can find on your own). She’s honest as well (once we found a better flight than she was able to and told us to book it ourselves and she just did the hotels and car for us). Pam will get you tours, lodging, just plane tickets, whatever you want. A couple times there’s been a minor error (like the wrong date for a hotel), but otherwise she’s made for smooth trips.

I’ve worked with Pam for the past 3 years and she has been fabulous. I have 2 young children (ages 3 & 6) and she has recommended wonderful family destinations for us to Hawaii, Mexico and Sun River, Oregon. Her pricing is amazing, but the reason I stick with Pam is her service. I ran into an issue with a room on one of our trips to Hawaii and no one at the hotel could help us. I called Pam and immediately we were upgraded to the room I had been requesting. She gets the job done and does it with a smile.

We have worked with Pam for 20 years. She is a wealth of information, a master of details and gracious as they come. She’s done at least 15 trips for us, some simple and some complicated. She works within your price range and has great ideas about where to go and what to do if you are uncertain on a plan. Once your trip is planned a magical envelope arrives in the mail with a reservation voucher for each detail of the trip. Mostly trips unfold beautifully but we have been known to change our mind mid planning and decide not to go (she is never resentful!), get sick just before departure and even the day of returning home. Pam is my personal 911. She keeps her cool and helps us manage any necessary changes. Pam is a perfect package of positive, planned and passionate about making you pleased and pleasantly pooped by the end! Katherine
