The sushi & hand roll were OK. I ordered Spanish mackerel, uni sushi, and a blue crab hand roll. The uni tasted a bit sour, and I couldn’t really taste Spanish mackerel because of too much ponzu dRizzled over fish. Overall, I didn’t have any problem with their service.

CHIRASHI bowl is a must here. It’s served so beautifully, not to mention the amount of sashimi and the variety of it is unmatched. It will not only be a treat on your tastebuds but also for your eyes! The rice is perfectly seasoned too. Nom nom!

I’ve been here twice now and I always leave with a happy and full belly! It’s located in the same plaza as elite and there’s a lot of parking so that’s always a plus. My go to is the special with salad, miso soup, omakase chirashi bowl, and dessert! Everything always tastes so fresh and amazing :) I also tried the tamago here today and it was definitely one of the better ones I’ve had at Japanese restaurants. The chirashi bowl is always packed with plenty of fish– usually I get a mix of scallops, salon, tuna, fish eggs, tamago, masago, uni, monk fish liver, and some other types of fish I don’t know the names of. The tuna is always my favorite because it just melts in your mouth! Service here is always great and they are very attentive, friendly, and polite. Next time I come back I’ll probably want to try the sushi dinner and the rolls!

Found this little gem tucked away in the middle of a strip mall after I was craving some sushi/Japanese food. I took my parents here for a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity and how delicious the food was. I just came back from Japan about a month ago, and the food is pretty on par with some of the local restaurants there. The staff was friendly. They serve roasted hot green tea on request. I ordered the chirashi sushi and tempura udon combo which was a decent portion. It was a «half size» chirashi bowl but still had a good selection of fish. Although there wasn’t a «melt in your mouth» consistency of fish, the pieces seemed pretty fresh. The udon noodles were thinner then usual but had the perfect chewy to soft consistency. We also had the Bento box with chicken teriyaki which offered a good potpourri of items. The sauces were not too«salty.» They just moved to this location about a year ago(per staff report) and the owners are from Japan. It’s a very causal atmosphere. Japanese cuisine is one of my faves and I would definitely recommend this place.

The fish was great. I can eat a lot of wasabi in fact, I love wasabi, but the nigiri made here has too much of it. I love it when chefs put extra wasabi in my nigiri, but this was making me cry. Their bowls are absolutely delicious. The staff was also attentive though, there were only a few customers at the restaurant — at least they weren’t lazying around. However, there was a bone in my nigiri. It was quite painful when it poked my gums. I alerted our waitress and she brought it to the chef. They removed the bone from my plate and apologized a couple times. This is not good enough. Bone in sushi completely ruins the experience. If they really care about their customers, they should compensate their customers with a more physical gesture: refund, dessert, re-make… Not only that, but they brought my used plate back. They could have at least brought me a new plate.

I like this place a lot. I love chirashi bowls and they make theirs so pretty. Great quality fish, presented very nicely. I’ve tried their lunch special chirashi and the chirashi and udon combo– both are good value. For dinner, I always get the abalone chirashi combo, which goes with abalone, of course, uni and other nice cut of fish. The combo also comes with miso soup, salad and a cute dessert. The service is usually very polite and attentive.

I’m down the street from from Koto. Sushi Koto offers balanced and traditional Japanese dishes. Their new location is spacious, clean, and well lit. The servers are attentive and the chefs are pleasant to watch. I usually come here for lunch for their chirashi bowls and kaiseki dinner. I would like to thank Sushi Koto for amazing food, delightful service, and precious memories.

This is an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. The waitresses were very friendly and courteous, they would check on us and refill our tea whenever we needed. As others have suggested, we ordered chirashi bowl and assorted sashimi with miso. Gotta say, chirashi bowl was awesome. It was so aesthetically pleasant and the food was fresh. The assorted sashimi with miso was good but not as good as chirashi. Bottom line: As with other authentic Japanese restaurants, the food they serve is expensive compared to the amount of portions they serve. For a person who has high appetite for sushi or rolls, I suggest going to a good AYCE place. But for those who are looking for something very fresh and don’t mind small to very small portions, this place will suffice.

If you’re looking to splurge on some chirashi bowls, this is your place to go. I came here for lunch around 1 and there was only one other person in the restaurant. I was debating between the Mini Chirashi and Udon Combo or the Chirashi Zen. I went with the Chirashi Zen. There was a great variety of fresh fish! Mine didn’t come with uni though… I was a little disappointed. Overall the bowl was great! I was satisfied. A man came in after me and got the Mini Chirashi and Udon Combo. I’ll probably order that next time I come here. Service is great and the ladies who helped me were very nice.

You get what you pay for. In this case, the quality of your sashimi is on point. I would recommend taking a sashimi first timer here. No fishy or suspicious fish pieces covered in sauce here. Every bowl and plate is a proud canvas for the beautiful colors and textures of ingredients. whether you’re here for the omakase sashimi assortment, or the teriyaki lunch special. This is pretty top notch stuff. Kinda stuff an Asian mom would serve to her post BAR graduate only child whose now studying for their MCATs… In other words you get fed served like you’re family here. Seems pretty on point. So why only 4⁄5 stars you might ask? Well… I don’t know if it was because it was a fairly slow evening or the servers had a secret bet to see who could refill the most cups… But my seat was faced towards the center of the restaurant so by default, the waitresses were in my line of view. They stood watching the few diners and as soon as you had emptied a dish or took a sip of your beverage, would immediately go to remove empty dishes, refill drinks or ask how things were going. It’s much appreciated but not every 15 min. :/it became almost painful to look at my boyfriend across from me without feeling like holes were being burned into me and like our conversations were always being interrupted. Otherwise, great food and appreciate your eagerness to provide awesome customer service. Just tone it down a teeny bit. :) Thanks!

Sushi Koto specializes in photo worthy chirashi. The décor is basic and clean and can probably seat up to 40 comfortably at the tables, including the bar. I have been a frequent diner at Sushi Koto up to two months ago. They were my local go-to place during my Japanese food cravings. I’ve had almost everything on their lunch specials menu and even ventured through some nigiri and hand rolls. Lunch specials were both beautiful and delicious without going over $$. The nigiri fell short, the taste and rice to fish ratio just didn’t do it for me. You really should stick to their chirashi, making an exception for their blue crab hand rolls which are bountiful. I’ve instagram about it, share my visits with friends and family. Not only did I refer people and invited others to eat here, I once came every week. This originally four star appeal falls short on service, 1 out of 3 visits they will fail in this area. They are understaffed during peak hours and can leave your unwavering love to wander away to another restaurant. I despise having to sever a food relationship with a place that I enjoy eating at. Will give them another shot in a few months. For now, I am going to break away and give other places a shot. What you need to know: — They take reservations — They are open on New Year’s day — Great lunch specials — They do have a sushi bar — Great for parties up to 8 — Blue hand rolls are a must order! — Try not go to during peak dining hours for the best experience

Sushi Koro is now my second favorite chirashi restaurant(my favorite is still the one in the city of industry). We came on a Friday night around 7p and was seated immediately. We took the last table for two. Note to self– They take reservation. Hubby had the Sanriku kaisendon dinner special for $ 28. It came with salad, soup, chirashi and dessert. I ordered the kaisendon combo courses for $ 38 which included appetizer, soup, tempura, egg custard, chirashi and dessert. Everything was good. The sashimi bowl might looked small in size, but it was very filling. The fish was fresh, but I have had better quality sashimi. Service was attentive but slow. I felt bad for the girl at the table next to us. Her friend got his sushi and was eating. I guess they brought hers too but it was the wrong thing so they took it back. The next time the server brought her the chirashi bowl but as the server put it on the table, the bowl tilted and all the fish fell onto the table. The servers used her hands to pick up the fish on the table and put them back into the bowl. She went back and brought out a new bowl, but somehow, her way of picking up the fish with her hands and put back into the bowl seemed strange to me. Not to mention now the girl’s friend was done with his meal and stared at the girl who just received her food. Oh well…

Cute little restaurant in Fountain Valley with phenomenal Japanese food! The restaurant is Japanese-owned and has native Japanese employees, and it shows. It’s a little pricey, but Japanese food always is, and you definitely get what you pay for, i.e. the quality is top notch. I’m not the biggest sashimi person, but I thoroughly enjoyed my chirashi bowl, and the set meal even came with miso soup, salad, and a perfectly-portioned, light, delicate Japanese dessert. Service was very professional and courteous. Interior is pleasant and spotless. Food is amazing. Definitely worth a visit!

3.5÷5− Rounded up for service. Despite the average food I actually REALLY wanted to give this place 5 stars. The service is so nice. They’re attentive, professional, and kind. What more could you want in an employee?! The menu is also amazing in terms of its selection. If you’re a chirashi lover then you may be able to live here for just a year or two. However in the end the food just isn’t good enough to warrant 5 stars(even if it looks quite amazing) It’s an above average sushi place in every way except the actual fish quality. Came in with a friend on a random Tuesday night during the winter. We were seated immediately. I got the Super Bowl Course which consisted of miso soup, tempura, lotus root, 2 pieces of herring roe, a bowl of bara chirashi and a dessert. My friend got one of the nigiri combo options. I didn’t try any of this but she did mention that it was good but not spectacular. As for my food: Side Dishes:(3.5÷5 overall) 1) Lotus roots: I think these were braised lotus roots. They were slightly sweet and salty and had a slight crunch to them. It’s a good side dish and I think it’d be delicious with breakfast. 2) Miso soup: A bit on the saltier side but overall fairly average. 3) Herring Roe: Salty, fishy, and crunchy. I didn’t like herring roe the first time I tried it years ago but it’s quite addictive. 4) Tempura: A very light crispy batter though slightly underseasoned. Some of the veggies inside were just slightly on the undercooked side for me too. Bara Chirashi: This was my first time having bara sushi and honestly I’m just not a fan of this style. The bowl here is very small(if you look at my picture it’s about the size of the miso soup bowl.) I’m not sure if you’re supposed to mix it all together, but I preferred picking out the pieces because I like the subtle differences between the fish. The fish quality was good but like my friend said not spectacular. Though it was also harder to tell since everything was cut into small cubes. All I can say is none of the fish was particularly fatty or flavorful. I also dislike most gari with sushi which I know is blasphemy but for a palette cleanser I find that most pickled gingers are too sweet and take over my mouth instead. So I wasn’t super happy to see tiny pieces of it scattered across the whole bowl. The rice had great texture but was not flavorful enough. The dish was still pretty and I enjoyed it overall but next time I think I’ll stick with the Kaisenden course.(3.5÷5) Dessert: The dessert was very light. It was some fruit and red bean with agar jelly and a piece of warabi mochi. It was a fun dessert but I didn’t find it very cohesive. However it was a nice way to end the meal. Overall I really enjoyed my experience at Sushi Koto. I can’t say it was the best sushi I’ve had but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to come back here.

I give this place 3.5 stars. Probably the best chirashi you’ll find in the OC. This place seems like a better deal for lunch. For dinner you pay a higher price for the same/similar bowls. I heard you’re not supposed to have chirashi bowls for dinner anyways but we’re in America and rules don’t matter much. The fish quality is really good but there’s a few things that don’t work for me here. –Some/most chirashi bowls are chopped up fish. I don’t like that kind so you have to be careful not to order those. –There are barely any descriptions of the food items on the menu I end up asking a bunch of questions every single time I come here. –The regular(non special) chirashi bowls look super small but they’re pretty deep and packed with fish and rice. They should know that larger footprints have a better perception. –They use alot more roe(fish eggs) and I feel like it’s not enough fish. I’ve tried various chirashi bowls ranging from $ 23-$ 49! I don’t think the higher price tag chirashi bowls are really worth it. The plaza is a little sketchy but free ample parking. Most customers are Japanese families. One night there were alot of young teenagers walking in, which seemed a bit odd. They weren’t even Asian, so even weirder.

I came here for New Year’s Day and so this review is for their special menu on New Years Day. They had a special set available on New Years that was $ 49 and included mochi soup, sashimi, osechi items, sushi, and a mochi red bean dessert. The mochi soup was delicious, I especially liked how chewy the mochi was and how well it went together with the soup. I assume the mochi was quite fresh, cause it tasted really good compared to when mochi is used at other places. The sashimi tasted quite fresh as did the sushi. The quality was rather impressive, especially the fatty toro piece, that one was really amazing in taste and quality to me. The osechi items were rather good too, but not as impressive as the sushi/sashimi and mochi items. They tasted really good, but they tasted kind of like what I would expect from those boxed versions sold at Mitsuwa. The mochi red bean dessert was excellent, as it contained the mochi(which as I said before was amazing!) and red bean which together was awesome! The main drawback here is that the food is a bit pricey, even taking into account the quality, but I am still a fan.

I love Chirashi bowls. This place has the best ones. Amazing quality fish and great prices. The bowl looks small, but trust me it really fills you up! I usually order the Chirashi Zen because it comes with miso soup. I’m sad I moved back up to norcal. I miss this spot! I always try to stop by when I’m in town.

Came here for lunch. It is located in the same plaza as Afters. Tons of parking but the plaza was full when we got there but we managed to find a space. The service is slow but the staff is friendly. I ordered the nama bara chirashi but due to my new dietary restriction I was able to get it over salad as oppose to rice. They were very sweet to accommodate. For $ 17 you get a good portion of sashimi and fish roe. My husband ordered the hand roll with udon. Everything looked fresh. I really enjoyed my chirashi. I wish they would put more fish roe. I would give them five stars but service was super slow. I did not a lot of to go orders being bagged up so maybe that was why it took longer for the food to arrive. I would definitely go back.

This place has TVs and really good udon! If only all my reviews could be one-liners like that, but then I’d go crazy not telling you about my experience :) Obviously, just by that proclamation above it’s pretty clear I’d come back, especially if it’s game night. I specifically came here for udon and ordered a bowl of their nabeyaki udon(just under $ 14) along with a couple orders of sushi and rolls. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what rolls I ordered since I was so floored by the udon and was pretty much slurping down on that. I do remember ordering the tuna and yellowtail sushi though – great cuts of fish! There’s a reason my server brought out my bowl of udon on a plate and I should have known better than to touch it – it was HOT. I had a quick burn on my thumb and finger, no big deal. Really, I was trying to adjust the bowl so I could take a better photo… nope! But after taking that first slurp of the soup and a chomp of that udon, I forgot all about my pain. Clearly, this was the best udon I’d had in a long while. The dish was also just pretty – a nice over-easy egg with a piece of shrimp tempura, a shiitake mushroom, green onions and the noodles… yes, I took a picture. I needed to remember how nice this delicious tasting meal looked. Service was very friendly, even if it seemed a tad rushed at the beginning. The ladies running the floor don’t mess around, but they have a great sense of humor. Yes, I’ll be back and next time I’ll try to sit at the sushi bar.
